At the end of my stay, when I was checking out, the hotel cheated me out of €40. When I arrived at the hotel, I paid a deposit for four pool towels and received deposit cards. Nobody informed me that, in order to get my money back for the towels, I also had to present proof of payment. I was told that the towel cards themselves served as proof of the deposit.
On the last morning, I returned all four towels to the lifeguard and received the deposit cards back from him. At check-out, I handed the cards to the receptionist, but the receptionist refused to refund my deposit, giving me a very convoluted explanation that I could have found the cards somewhere and that they might not actually belong to me.
At the same time, all the other guests received their deposits back without having to show any receipt or proof of payment.
I have never encountered this kind of attempt to unfairly take money from guests at any other hotel.
I can say that Alua was the best choice for my vacation, the best services and confort! We had a Ocean View room and it was spectacular!
We stayed here for a week this month. Hotel clean and tidy and decor was good. Took an extra hour to get our room, no apology. They said they had updated our room but they deffo didn’t. We wanted a pool view but we got opposite restaurant view. Beds were singles pushed together, second bed was a fold out bed. Linen clean and tidy, towels good. Water on arrival for our mini fridge. Entertainment was good in day and evening was good for families. Food was fair, typical AI buffets. Drinks ok but strong and sweet, many staff at the bar understood English a bit. Pablo spoke fluent English and he would greet us daily asking about our day. Near a few shops and supermarket and the beach is on foot also.
The cleaning was disappointing. Mirrors were often not cleaned. We also noticed that cups were washed only in the bathroom sink using non-potable water. We found this particularly unpleasant and concerning from a hygiene perspective. The hotel is a reasonable distance from the centre and also close enough to Loro Parque. Unfortunately, the beach directly in front of the hotel is full of seaweed, which makes it less pleasant for swimming. The overall atmosphere was not particularly pleasant. The hotel did not feel like a place we would want to return to. The beds were on wheels, so they moved even with the slightest movement during the night. They were also quite worn out and uncomfortable. This significantly affected the quality of our sleep. The Wi-Fi connection was also unreliable and frequently dropped out, which was quite inconvenient. Considering the price and the overall quality of the accommodation and food, we did not feel that the hotel offered good value for money. The swimming pool is very small and quite cold. It is only open until 7 PM, which is rather limiting, especially when you want to relax by the pool in the evening. The sun loungers are also mostly reserved from early morning, making it difficult to find a free one later in the day. Dinner was another major disappointment. With half board, you are entitled to only plain water with your dinner (other drinks have to be paid for separately). On many evenings, there was also very little to choose from apart from frozen pizza and fries. The desserts were good, but unfortunately, you cannot really make a proper dinner out of desserts. overall: Unfortunately, we would not choose this hotel again. The uncomfortable beds, disappointing cleanliness, cups being washed with non-potable water, limited dinner options, having only plain water included with half board, small and cold swimming pool, early pool closing time, difficulty communicating in English, and seaweed-covered beach made the stay much less enjoyable than we had hoped. The location and desserts were probably the best things about the hotel, but they were not enough to make us want to return.
We booked a one-week all-inclusive holiday including flights through Lastminute.com for around £1,300. Having read some negative reviews beforehand, we were a bit nervous, but those worries quickly disappeared. This hotel is fabulous, and the facilities clearly justify its 4-star rating. Food & Drinks The food was hot, tasty, and served throughout the day. My only minor critique is that leftover hot breakfast items are moved to the snack bar after breakfast—I'm not sure keeping them warm for that extended period is ideal. However, the afternoon snacks made fresh to order were great (burgers, chips, hot dogs, salad, and cakes). The all-inclusive package is very generous, featuring three separate bars and including branded premium spirits like Smirnoff and Gordon’s. Rooms & Cleanliness The hotel is exceptionally clean overall. The rooms are clean and modern, and while the air conditioning units are on the older side, they are fully functional. Housekeeping staff were always polite, friendly, and hard at work. Staff & Service While housekeeping was fantastic, the bar staff generally let the side down a bit—many came across quite grumpy. The exceptions were a few of the girls and a young chap named Pablo, who were lovely and provided great service. Facilities & Pool The main pool area could do with some minor maintenance, as quite a bit of the painted lining is chipped, but it didn't ruin our enjoyment. Entertainment & Hotel Concept (TUI Club Lookea) The entertainment receives a lot of criticism online, but there is important context to understand: the hotel operates as a TUI Club Lookea destination. This is a French-branded holiday concept, meaning activities and entertainment are primarily presented in French for French-speaking guests who pay a high premium for the service. While non-French guests aren't excluded, the language barrier is obvious. We did notice some rude behavior from some of these holidaymakers at mealtimes—pushing in front of queues (even ahead of children) and hoarding food (like one guest taking six steaks at once!). Despite the minor downsides with pool paint and language dynamics, the overall experience and value for money were outstanding. We would definitely recommend it!
