Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Hotel very clean. Food and drink plentiful however would not recommend for anyone with a nut allergy. Although there were some notices about items containing nuts it was not sufficient, my wife was very concerned. Lack of empathy is clearly explained in the following photograph
This was our third visit to Riu Buenavista, our first since the refurbishment.
It was also our honeymoon, we wanted to return to the place we went on our first holiday abroad together.
Hotel was great, we had a sea view room which was great, and overlooking the adult pool. Room was clean, tidy and well-appointed with double sinks in the bathroom and a good powerful shower!
The restaurants are all buffet style, but there are three restaurants that require a reservation for evening meals, aside from the main buffet restaurant for everyone.
Dolce Vita is Italian cuisine, and the lasagne is delicious. Mandalay is Asian themed, with great spring rolls and tasty chicken yakatori.
Without exception, all staff we encountered on our visit were very polite and friendly, from housekeeping , restaurant staff, bar staff and reception staff. Particularly Iban on reception when we checked in- he loved my Back To The Future t-shirt, and called me McFly whenever we spoke! "Que pasa, McFly!"
Food was well cooked, and so much variety. The drinks offering was also great- soft drinks essential in 30+ degree heat- as well as some nice cocktails, wine and sangria, all day, every day!
I found I needed a cocktail whenever passing the pool bar, and as it was in a plastic glass, I could walk around with it- a WALKTAIL!
We spent most of our swimming time in the adult pool, and never had an issue getting a sunbed, but the usual suspect were always out early in the morning putting towels down - maybe something that needs to be addressed?
Finally, the cherry on the cake is the amazing views of the sea, palm trees etc- incredible!
We stayed here with a family of 11 and rarely didn't get beds at 9/10-ish (although we couldn't sit together, which wasn't a problem for us). We struggled to book the Asian restaurant for a large group but managed in the end, via reception, when the next days were released. The meal in the Asian restaurant was great and very yummy, but be timely, as some sushi and seafood ran out. We had a Gluten Intolerance and a nut allergy; the Asian restaurant chef explained what was available to each person. The other buffet restaurant was clearly labelled for the most part; I did find I couldn't discuss this with the chefs and waitstaff, as they didn't speak English. But I could find a matradee who could make food then and there or let me order gluten-free options for my next meal; this included pasta, pizza, paella, chips, pancakes, bread, toasties, etc. Entertainment was mixed and often got busy with seating, but this didn't bother us; there was space in reception and areas away from the main stage for us to play games and chat. The party was great fun, although we arrived closer to the end. All the food and drink were great and similar to what families have had at other Riu hotels. We enjoyed the beach to the left of the exit, which had some good snorkelling. We recommend a visit to the Hard Rock, Britannia Inn, the market by Centro Comercial El Duque in the Torviscas district, and the shops there. We also enjoyed a local boat trip, just the 11 of us, and a meal at Al Mar, which was a treat.
Fantastic hotel had a wonderful 4 night stay here the rooms are spacious very clean and modern and the hotel grounds are immaculate all staff and so helpful and friendly plenty of swimming pools to from including adult only pool entertainment day and night is good plenty of bars with lovely cocktails the food is nice too would definitely stay here again.
We usually stay at the Bahia principe however the hotel is closed for 2026 for a total refurb. A friend is always enthusiastic about the Rui brand and so we booked a sea view room for a two week flop and drop holiday. We found the App really useful, not just for online check in but to book the specialist restaurants or find what is happing around the hotel. On arrival we were allocated room 117/2 which is on the block near the adult only pool. Spacious with all the necessary facilities - great that there was a kettle available for that morning coffee ( we bought our sachets with us) . You could tell that the room had been refurbished - good size bathroom with walk in shower , conditioner, shower gel and shampoo supplied . Our charging points didn’t work , but we had a small extension with us , so we were sorted . The room was cleaned spotlessly every day. The service received by the Rui team has been exceptional - there is a real pride of the hotel with the grounds being clean and tidy. There was some trepidation regarding the food , but we had no issues - breakfast and lunch at the Atlantico - wide range of food available . La Gomera bar is ideal to get a break from the run - I will miss their mojitos. We had dinner in the main buffet a number of times - again didn’t have a bad meal . Through the app we booked Mandalay ( our fav) Dolce Vita ( Italian ) and Grill ( our least fav- could have gone to Yaiza for same food) For a change we did have two meals out- Mumbai Masala ( near Hard Rock - excellent) . Liked the self serve wine, soft drinks and beer facility , and although the available cocktails are delivered by preset machine , quality was good ( staff will mix any drink you ask for ) . In the room there is a fridge and you can collect litre bottles of water from reception bar. Entertainment every night was varied and would appeal to most . White and Neon nights on Fridays were amazing even for OAP’s like us - great fun. Suggestion to the hotel - please put signs up by the water stations to stop people filling their water bottles direct from machine - a sure way of transfer of infections. It no big deal to fill your water with the plastic cups and fill your water bottle with these . It would also be appropriate that the entertainment team during the Karaoke competition cease their sexual innuendos - it wasn’t funny but offensive. Location wise it is quiet area , but you can get a bus 471 to Los Cristianos from the Rosa centre . We have certainly enjoyed our time at the Rui - appreciate that other guests might have had different experiences. But when we get home we will certainly book again for next September and enjoy the same.
