H10 Costa Adeje Palace

Clean rooms. Nice complex. Friendly staff. Knowledge of gluten free food but very limited choices. The pool is freezing, went in October with outside temp around mid 20s and it was too cold to go in.

The hotel isn't bad, but it is so old inside that something is always breaking. Not a single cupboard or drawer in the room closed properly; the air conditioner seemed like it was from the previous century — weak and with only one setting. The lifts in the left wing of the building worked irregularly: one never worked at all, while the other kept breaking down.

The beds in the room — two separate single beds — were an attraction in themselves. Since they were on wheels and not secured in any way, you never knew which end of the room you would wake up in, assuming you managed to stay on the bed at all during the night. They would simply roll around freely across the floor.

The Wi-Fi in the room was very slow, so there was no way to work from the room. There was also construction work right in the middle of the hotel grounds, with piercingly loud noise, so there was no way to relax by any of the pools.

Last but not least — the food. Breakfast was good and plentiful, with plenty of options. But the dinners were a disaster. Not once during our week-long stay on half-board did the meat chefs manage to cook the meat properly — every cut they served, from steak to lamb chops, was completely unchewable or dry. The choice of salads was poor, and they looked quite unappetising, as did the starters. And, frankly speaking, everything was tasteless.

I wish we hadn't chosen the half-board option. At the very least, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone staying at this hotel. We didn't try the other two hotels' restaurants; they seem overpriced given the overall quality of the food and the hotel itself.

Location: slighty out of the main adeje town but lovely access to beachfront promenade on which you could walk to small town of la caleta or to plaza del duque. Local bus runs every 20 mins and goes as far as Playa Las Americas and Los Cristianos. Shop within 5 minute walk of hotel for the essentials....water etc.

Room: Clean, well sized and good balcony. Bathroom a little tired in places but all functional and air con worked well which was a must in the heat. I found the spring matress somewhat uncomfortable, it was noisy and I get the impression it was well used and in need of replacement. A quick trip to reception to ask for a matress topper to be added and this made it much more comfortable. We stayed in room 015 which was near the delivery entrance and staff area which meant it was sometimes a little noisy but not an issue and close to the lift which helped with the pram.

Facilities: Outdoor pool area lovely with good range of pools and spaces for everyone from young children to those who prefer somewhere quieter to relax. Pool area was well cleaned each night. Indoor pool a little tired and in need of a bit of maintenance, it also said it was heated but cant say I noticed it being significantly warmer than the outdoor pools. Piano bar and lobby are lovely areas, a big space with good seating and nice decoration. I did however find the large lobby area very warm and found myself returning to our room sooner than normal for some aircon. The entertainment room had great air con but unfortunately was too loud for our young baby.

Food: We were half board. The buffet always had a good range of food and we were never left with nothing to eat. We particularly enjoyed breakfast and some of the desserts. The buffet was run very well, waiters friendly and always very clean. Mango dacquiri and mojito tasty!
