GF Gran Costa Adeje

We’ve been coming to GF Gran Costa Adeje for around 15 years now, probably our seventh stay, and there’s a reason we keep returning even after trying other hotels, including the big Lopesan resorts in Gran Canaria. What sets the Gran apart is simple: the staff. They genuinely seem pleased to see you, they’re polite, friendly, and consistently helpful. It makes such a difference.

This trip was no exception. Every member of staff we dealt with was lovely (bar one slightly grumpy lady at the pool bar), and they couldn’t do enough for us. A small example: my little girl was stung by a wasp by the pool, and later that day the hotel sent a little Goofy soft toy and some sweets to our room. I’d mentioned the wasps to reception because I was worried they might be nesting, and they took it seriously and followed up.

I have to mention Alessandra from Guest Relations because she is honestly one of the nicest, most genuinely caring people you’ll meet in a hotel. Any request we made, if it was possible, she sorted it. Room preferences, tea and coffee replenishment, little details… everything was handled with warmth and no fuss. This is exactly where the Gran outshines the Lopesan hotels: the personal touch. You feel looked after.

This was our first visit since the refurbishment. Yes, it’s still an older hotel at heart, and you can see that in the design compared to somewhere like the Victoria down the road, but everything they do offer, they do well and consistently. The new bathrooms are great; I don’t miss the bath at all. The shower is powerful and perfect after a day in the sun. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bedding is lovely.

I’ve never understood the complaints about tea and coffee. They don’t stock the rooms with loads of sachets people won’t use. I simply asked reception to note on my booking that I’d like it replenished daily, and it was. Sometimes you just need to ask politely and you get politeness back.

Pool temperatures were lovely, sunbeds comfortable, and although I do miss being able to go up to the top pool, I completely understand it being adults only. Families still have plenty of space elsewhere.

Food and drink on the all inclusive were absolutely fine. Most cocktails are included, and people forget that in the Canaries, all inclusive doesn’t mean absolutely everything like in some other countries. It’s the same setup as Gran Canaria. Breakfast remains the strongest meal; hot, varied, and consistently good. I did miss some of the old choices, like the pre‑prepared tortellini they used to offer, and I remember paella being available more often, but overall the food was plentiful and hot.

Entertainment was mixed. We had two genuinely great nights with Johnny Circus and the disco, but the other evenings were more what you’d expect from a typical hotel programme. I wouldn’t stay in specifically for it, but with so much to do in the area, I can’t really fault them for that.

If I had one piece of constructive feedback, it would be the €10 charge to use the electronic VR‑style bike in the gym. For a five‑star hotel, that felt a bit unnecessary.

I also want to thank the staff at the new children’s slide park. They made me a chicken burger without cheese every single day, remembered me, and were just so kind. I’m already missing them, and they’ll know exactly who I am if you pass that message on.

The area itself is safe, clean, and has loads to do nearby. It’s a great base for families.

At the end of the day, we continue to return because the hotel gets the important things right: kindness, consistency, comfort, and staff who genuinely care. That’s what keeps people coming back, and it’s certainly what keeps us coming back.

Spent a week here from 13th July with my two daughters, aged 13 and 16. We stayed in two separate rooms, but they are a great size and I think we would have been fine in one. Beds very comfortable, and the bathroom is huge - the toilet is separated from the main bathroom with a door. Shower was good, although the water breached the rim of the shower tray every single time, which meant you end up with a slightly soggy bathmat! Air con seemed to be a bit off....I set it to 16 degrees, but it felt warmer than that - not as hot as outside, obviously, but not as cool as it could or should have been. I've since read that this was replaced as part of the refurb, so might need to be looked at. Housekeeping did a great job - other than the cleaner who knocked and then came in within seconds, despite me having the 'do not disturb' light on - I'm not sure who was more surprised, LOL!!!

Plenty of entertainment for the kids - I generally appreciate a bit of peace on holiday, but accept that this is in short supply in July! My two enjoyed the aqua aerobics every day, plus the ping pong competitions, and the inflatables in the main pool. It all gets a bit loud from about noon to 3pm, but not unbearable. As others have mentioned, there are 'pool police' who come round removing towels and belongings that have been left to reserve sunbeds at around 0930am, so be warned. I actually really appreciated that - much less stressful if it's an even playing field.

I thought the food was generally excellent, with a huge choice. Asian night was brilliant, and there was often a fab selection of seafood on offer at dinner time. It's a shame that there weren't any outdoor seating areas in the restaurant to speak of - part of being somewhere warm and sunny is the ability to eat outside. It does feel a little bit 'canteen-y', but I can forgive that for the quality of the food offering. As someone who doesn't eat dairy, I can confirm that a range of non-dairy milks are available, but you can forget having dessert other than sorbet :( I didn't encounter any rudeness from staff, and they all seemed to be working hard and efficiently.

Overall, I think the hotel is excellent value for money, and is so conveniently located with the little shopping centre next door, plus the market across the road twice a week. Would we return? Probably!
