Spacious ensuite rooms have cool tiled floors, air conditioning and large patio doors leading out to a furnished private balcony. Advertised, booked and paid for as a 5* hotel and we treat ourselves to all inclusive for our wedding anniversary. Sometimes we just don’t want to go down for dinner and would prefer to read our books in the comfort of our room with room service. Room yes service no!! We were somewhat stunned when we found out that we had to pay extra for this “service” even though we were all inclusive. We decided to pass on that one which is probably just as well because it took three phone calls to “room service” and reception and a two hour plus wait just to get the milk, tea & coffee replenished in our room even when you would normally expect it to be done automatically when the room was cleaned. If we had ordered food then I suspect dinner may have ended up as breakfast ! On a positive note, whilst the service is questionable the hotel itself is spotless which is a big plus. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. The pools are beautiful . This hotel, despite its several faults, is worth visiting but do go with the idea of a 4*. 5 star luxury - unfortunately not
Have just spent 7 nights at this hotel for my wedding anniversary. Hotel is impressive on arrival and check in from the hotels reception staff was friendly and very welcoming. I paid extra for a double room pool view.would i upgrade again probably not as all the rooms are basically the same apart from the view,Some have a Mountain View which is spectacular and some have side views but for the amount of time I spent in the room I now know that paying for a room upgrade is not particularly worth it in my humble opinion. Facilities are very good,4 pools,numerous restaurants and bars. Plenty of sunbeds and we always got one in the location around the pool where we wanted. The roof pool is a nice place for a quiet time but it does need some maintenance(missing tiles and bricks around the pool itself is not a good look). I paid extra for All Inclusive as it was a treat for our anniversary. Plentiful selection of food and drinks to be had but we chose to eat out a few nights as we needed a different environment. Would I do All inclusive again probably not as I don’t think the supplement paid was value for money. I enjoyed spending my late evenings sat outside the hotel having a drink and the service staff were excellent taking orders for drinks and delivering drinks directly to your table. The jungle bar on the top floor is a nice setting and this adults only ,my only gripe was the main barmen on the evening i visited was miserable,he looked like he didn’t want to be there,I get that though as we are all humans and it must be difficult to have a pleasant and happy persona all the time. Cleaning Staff do an absolute fantastic job,our room was cleaned daily and it was always done to a very high standard. I will definitely return back to the GF Gran as I really did enjoy my 7 night stay.
We have just returned from an all inclusive 10 day holiday at this hotel. We were not disappointed. The hotel was very clean, the elusive cleaning lady was elusive, we didn’t see her once but our room was immaculate on a daily basis, full marks. The pool police were an added welcome, they removed towels left before 9.45 , so when people came back to their pool side reserved sun beds hours later they found someone else sitting on them and their towels bags etc taken away, they were annoyed but there are warning signs up all over, we easily got 4 sun beds after our breakfast at 10am no stress of getting up early , they were maybe not pool side it that didn’t matter. I can see why other guests were complaining about others taking more than one umbrella, they were on the small side so difficult to get 2 beds covered and they didn’t adjust so you could lower them down, not a complaint just an observation. The roof top pool was lovely but those umbrellas were fixed because of the wind so we found it difficult to get some shade. The food was fab but we heard people complaining it wasn’t good enough! I would love to spend a week with them and see what they had for their evening meal back home! There was pasta, pizza, burgers, salads, beef, pork, turkey, lamb, fish, king prawns, crabs, just to give you an idea. The kitchen staff must work their socks off feeding that amount of people 3 times a day, they need a well deserved mention. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our only complaints were that the all inclusive ended at 12 when you checked out. We arrived at 11pm on our first night so missed the opportunity to take advantage of the restaurant and there was no sandwiches left in our room, we then had a late pick up for our return home so we’re not entitled to use the restaurant, had we arrived earlier we would have been entitled to meals and expected that that would right itself on our last day. We also had a charge of €18 on our room. We should have queried that but just accepted it . The only thing we can think of was that we were charged for a bottle of wine that we had one night with dinner, we asked for 2 glasses of wine but when it arrived he left the bottle! We had had wine on other nights but they just filled our glasses. No one took our room number so we are now thinking it was either a mistake or someone on a different table that were not all inclusive gave the wrong room number. We did read negative reviews before we arrived but please don’t let them put you off. I am sure we will be returning to this fabulous hotel
We visited on the 11th-18th September as a couple with my parents. We visited 2 years ago before the refurb so were excited to see what had changed/improved. Changes - Rooms heavily improved as before they were very dated, they’re now much more modern with a walk-in shower, a lovely new modern wardrobe and lick of paint. We had rooms facing out at the back of the hotel, but we loved the view of the mountains before so this was a bit disappointing. The new splash park around the back is a great addition for kids in the summer holidays, and we even had a go on the 2 slides ourselves! This was an excellent addition to split up the families from the main pool and make sure kids had a place to go. Food & Drink - We stayed all inclusive and really enjoyed the variety of food there was. Breakfast was always brilliant, lots of choice, counters where you were served omelettes/eggs/pancakes. Lunch was also great in the buffet, but we thoroughly enjoyed eating in the poolside restaurant under the shade. This was always quick service and lovely to go to during the day. Dinner was amazing, themed during our stay every night, again lots of choice, always piping hot and clean surfaces everywhere. One thing we would recommend to the hotel for the buffet restaurant would be to have a child/family area. Even in the term time, we had little children around us screaming, this feels unneeded in a 5 star hotel, you would expect them to have their own area so adults can eat in peace. Just a suggestion for the hotel that would please a few people who we spoke to and us! Drinks were okay, poolside drinks were pre-made and could be strong/weak, never consistent, sometimes undrinkable. We preferred having a drink in the poolside restaurant or in the Jungle Bar. The Jungle Bar is a great addition and we enjoyed going there every evening for some cool air and fresh cocktails! We were impressed with the cocktails up there, much better than any of the other bars. Inconsistent also with the menu’s of what was included in AI and what wasn’t, this differed bar to bar and confused a lot of guests. The entertainment bar in reception was okay, but again, for speed, not necessarily the best drinks were served. Unfortunately, we’d leave a lot of ‘funny tasting’ drinks. Entertainment - Entertainment was fine when we were there, on every evening at 9pm and 10pm, we saw acrobatics & circus skills which we thought were really good. What did put us off was how hot it would get in the entertainment area, no air conditioning, just fans above you. This really did make us reconsider whether we would sit and stay and watch as it was unbearable to sit - even in September! Perhaps the hotel could consider doing an outside entertainment area by the pool or another alternative for people to sit outside as there’s not much room when the tables get filled outside reception? We enjoyed getting involved in poolside activities during the day, entertainment staff were superb. Cleanliness - Rooms were always clean, shout out to the room maids, excellent job on the rooms. Since the refurb, certain things that should’ve been refreshed, haven’t been. There are tiles around the pool falling off. In the pool above reception, there are several hazards that we picked up on in the sealant on the floor which were very sharp. The bridge going over the pool could do with being varnished and overall the pool areas need a bit of sprucing up/ painting, which will hopefully be looked into. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider coming back.
Have just returned from a weeks stay in this lovely hotel with my daughter and young granddaughter. We had gone B&B and really enjoyed the selection of foods on offer at the breakfast buffet, especially the omelettes. I’m not a fan of “ pile your plate “ high kind of eating ,which a number of the clientele at this hotel seemed to indulge in a lot !! It is a beautifully laid out hotel especially the use of palms and greenery within the hotel itself. Having a two year old with us meant we were confined to the kiddie pool which is quite a distance from the adult pools ,situated at the back of the hotel but it most be one of the more scenic kiddies pools I’ve been to!
The main adult pools are in the centre of the complex ,with one pool being quite shallow for older children ,though the tiles around it were very slippery! The hotel is spotless but would not necessarily get a 5* British Hotel rating but was definitely a Spanish 5* The one negative was the children’s entertainment at night . It lacked focus for the age of the children who were there ( 1 to 3 yrs old and English speaking )who could not follow the instructions given in Spanish ,never mind in English . Though having said that our 2yr old enjoyed the ballon making and after the first night did want to join in with the actions so long as her Mum was beside her also doing them !
One drawback though is that the hotel is situated at the top of steep hills ,so although the walk to the seafront at night was easy ,it was a steep climb back up again ,especially pushing a pram. Fortunately my daughter is very fit and not overweight ,or it would have been a struggle and although I have some health issues ,I’m still fairly mobile and reasonably fit. Hence there were a lot of mobility scooters on the pavements ,along with motorised scooters ,which could make it quite hazardous at busy times of the evening. In conclusion a very family friendly hotel for , suitable for an extended family vacation with very young children.
