Colonia Sant Jordi

Sometimes called Port de Campos, the beach resort of Colonia Sant Jordi is to be found on the south-east coast of Majorca and forms part of the Ses Salines district.

This part of the island has some of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches anywhere to be found in the region, and the main town of Campos is just a 15-minute drive away.

When to go

The peak summer months of July and August, and even stretching either side to incorporate June and August to September, enjoy vibrant blue skies and long sunny days. Temperatures at this time tend to range between 27 ºC and 30ºC. For avoidance of the summer crowds, March to May will see temperatures in the high-teens and mid-20s, as well as the added bonus of several parades and street parties.

Top Attractions

The waterfront promenade and fantastic beaches are the main draw with this resort. One of the most famous and popular beaches in all of Majorca (and fair warning: that does sometimes include nudists), Es Trenc, is a short trek away. Or, a little closer to Colonia Sant Jordi itself (and with more amenities) is Ets Estanys. There’s also two delightful, yet small, strips of sand found at Platja d’es Dofí and Platja d’es Dolç.

Dining

The seafront is the place where most of the choice is clustered. Mediterranean dishes and seafood fare features heavily on the menus, as you would expect. The Carrer Gabriel Roca has great selection of bars and restaurants that offer great views across the bay to accompany the cuisine.

Entertainment

Though there isn’t too much by the way of wild parties and open-till-all-hours nightclubs, the bars found behind the promenade Carrer Gabriel Roca does provide a little bit in terms of action, especially at the weekend during peak season.

Culture

The main town of Colonia Sant Jordi was originally an agricultural and fishing village, but it is now a bustling tourist resort and the quaint little fishing harbour is still the heart of the town. The historic salt flat found at Ses Salines is worth a look.

The historic quarter of Palma however, which is around a 40-minute drive away, would be the ideal choice for a day-trip, should you wish to immerse yourself in a bit of local culture.

Adventure and Sports

Among the small beaches here you’ll find several small islets offering outstanding views all the way to the Cabrera Archipelago and you can also catch one of the many boats that run from here to the group of islands found at the National Maritime Park of Cabrera.

There are some wonderful walks to be enjoyed in the National Park, while the waters house endangered animals including whales and turtles.

Getting around

Buses connect the major resorts and are both regular and reliable, or you could take matters into your own hands and avail one of the many places in the tourist spots that offer car hire.
