Sol Mirador de Calas

We had a fantastic stay at Alua Calas de Mallorca. Reception gave us a great welcome, and the staff throughout the hotel were outstanding, especially the restaurant and bar teams. Maria in the restaurant deserves a special shout out for being so positive, energetic, and fun.

The food was good and varied and the snack bar in the main hotel was useful in the afternoon with the mini ice creams a particular favourite.

The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious, and housekeeping was spot on every day. A few things people get wrong online:

• Beds are changed when you place the instruction card on them. • Towels are replaced when left on the bathroom floor. • Rooms are cleaned daily. • Air con works perfectly — but only when the balcony door is locked.

Sunbeds were usually available until around 8:30am, though we joined the early risers to grab the best spots. The entertainment team kept everyone busy during the day and put on great evening shows, including The Lion King and Mamma Mia.

The only real negative and the reason it’s not a five star review is due to the lifts. Luckily I was able to use the stairs to get to and from the room but for others there were long waits for the lifts and they made some very concerning noises at times although all operated throughout the stay.

We stayed for a week as a family, all-inclusive in August 2026. The weather was super hot and the hotel had most things covered for us. As a resort, Callas de Mallorca is mainly a site for some large hotels – there is limited entertainment off site, but if you don’t mind staying in the hotel resort, or making your own excursions, it’s a great base for a short holiday. The hotel itself is well equipped for an all-inclusive break. Staff are generally friendly and helpful and most speak English well or well-enough to be able to help. Our double room had a sofabed added which made it a little cramped, but we didn’t spend long in the room. Storage is limited, so you should be methodical with your unpacking on arrival. The air con and fridge were welcome. Multiple entertainments during the day are a fun diversion, but not so amazing that you’d feel you’d missed out during a day-trip. The pools are clean and well-maintained and the largest is sufficiently spacious that you don’t feel overcrowded. Sun loungers are reserved by early morning risers, which is frustrating. Signs around the pool say that towels will be removed periodically, but we saw no evidence of that. Some days required a lot of patience to find a lounger after breakfast or lunch. So… hit the beach instead. The local beaches are a good alternative, and hiring a paddleboard from reception (€24 when we visited) was a great way to enjoy the water without crowds. You pick up the paddleboard kit from the hotel, inflate the board and walk it down to Calo Antena (accessible by steps from the north of the hotel grounds) for a morning of sun, sea and snorkelling (bring your own snorkel – the bay is great). Food and drink is available from early breakfast until late evening with a good variety of familiar and local dishes included. Restaurants are busy, but not overcrowded and they’re well serviced so we never had to wait too long and didn’t feel we’d missed out on popular dishes. On the down side, such a large hotel requires lots of looking after. We reported a few issues with our room on arrival and they were fixed within 24 hours. The lifts seemed to become very dirty during the day – possibly because staff don’t use the guest lifts and were unaware of the problem. The lifts themselves are old and slow. We were on the top floor and had to get used to journeys being interrupted at every floor because if impatient button-pushers on lower floors. It’s not surprising that guests push every button going in the hope of grabbing the first lift, but it’s still frustrating and can take more than 5 minutes to get down to breakfast… remember that when you’re rushing for last orders! We were disappointed with the strict all-inclusive limits. We arrived just before midnight on our first day and were told not only that service was about to end for the day (understandable) but that our inclusive wristbands would be cut off at check-out on our last day, even though we would not be leaving for the airport until 5pm. That felt like we’d been cheated out of a day of service, with no alternative. Reception presumably deal with this regularly, because they were absolutely adamant that no flexibility was on offer without further payment. This is not a hotel at its best and it needs a little bit of TLC, but that won’t ruin a holiday. The staff and welcome make it a lovely place for a family week in the sun and at the lower end of the all-inclusive price range, I’d be happy to return.
