Hipotels Bahia Cala Millor

We arrived fairly late in the evening on a Saturday in July. We received a warm welcome from Pia on reception and a friendly explanation of what is what. As we arrived after the dinner service, we were delighted that we had a light cold meal waiting for us in the dining room. This was a lovely touch and much appreciated after many hours of travelling.

We had a standard room and were very happy with it. It had a view of the sea in the gap between our hotel and the Iberostar next door. A good sized balcony with 2 chairs and a table.

Our room was comfortable, with good linens and kept spotlessly clean by housekeeping but special thanks to Rocio who really looked after us. We were delighted to find that the safety deposit was free of charge and we wish other hotels followed suit on this. The toiletries were good quality – hand soap, shampoo (bring your own conditioner), shower gel and I think moisturizer. The wifi worked well and we were relieved that the AC was also efficient as most days the temperature outside was around 35c (sometimes hotter). There is no tea and coffee in the room, but we brought our own and asked for a kettle and this was supplied promptly.

We were half-board and found the food at both breakfast and dinner to be a good standard. (If I were to be picky, I would say that sometimes the labeling was awry. I appreciate this is done in a number of languages, but maybe symbols to indicate if dishes had meat in or were vegetarian, rather than being written. Just a thought). However, we usually managed to speak to a chef just to double check if we were unsure. The wines are a reasonable cost for a hotel too. The staff at meal times (like all the other staff) were efficient, professional and charming – but special thanks to Carmen, Gonzalo, Natalia and Diego.

The hotel is very low key – which we were very happy about – with no loud music blasting out all day. However, on a couple of days a week, there is a DJ session for an hour or so in the afternoon, so it is not completely silent. There are a few activities on offer and we loved Aqua Gym most days with thanks to both Dani and Erkia for making the sessions fun. Although we didn’t attend, there was entertainment in the evening for those that want it. We never had a problem getting a sun bed and towels can be changed regularly.

At the back of the hotel and through the gate a short path takes you to the beach. The beach is sandy in parts with a number of sun beds and umbrellas. However, near the water edge it was stony and rocky, so gaining access to the sea was a little difficult. We would suggest bringing beach shoes. There is also a huge pile of seaweed at one end of the beach and during our stay more and more seaweed came to the water edge. It is a shame that the local council did not clear this on a daily basis (not the responsibility of the hotel), as it made getting into the sea virtually impossible and unpleasant.

The short path at the back of the hotel also gains access to the traffic free promenade (lovely) which takes about 10/15 minutes or so to more restaurants and bars – note there aren’t many bars or restaurants close to the hotel. There is a Spar supermarket close to the hotel – go out of the front door, turn right to the bottom of the road and you will be there. It is quite pricey though and we found that walking further down the main road brought much cheaper prices. If you are feeling fit, there is a Lidl and Mercadona about 20 minutes walk too.

All in all, we really liked this hotel – good rooms, good food, and lovely staff, and we hope to return at some point.

This is an excellent hotel. Last year I stayed next door at the Iberostar Waves and I wondered how it would compare - I wasn’t disappointed. It is spotless, the food is varied and always fresh. The room is cleaned every day. The pool is the perfect temperature and sunloungers are always available. The location is excellent with direct beach and promenade access. Drinks prices are very reasonable and the entertainment was good- I loved the Flamenco. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the service is the best I have received for a long time. Unfortunately I had to cut my stay short due to illness- the staff really looked after me- thanks to Pia and the team on reception and the dining staff for bringing me food when I was unwell. I would love to go back again!
