The family-friendly hotel Sol Lanzarote is perfectly situated in a peaceful location in Matagorda, frontline to the sandy beach and the Atlantic Ocean. Guests will appreciate a wonderful pool landscape; part of the hotel is designed in a Flintstones style, with themed rooms and a themed restaurant as well as a Flintstones Bazaar. A shopping centre is only 200 metres away; the popular holiday resort of Puerto del Carmen is easily reachable by public transportation. An ideal hotel for families with children who wish to spend a beach holiday. We would like to inform you that the time has come to proceed with the repair of our three pools to offer a modern and functional product. For all this we wanted to inform you that we have decided, for the best achievement of this repair and above all to avoid inconvenience to our customers and partners, proceed to the temporary closure of this pool from the day 12/11/2020 with an estimated duration of 1 month. We are delighted to inform that the hotel will have another 2 swimming pools available and all the services will run as normal within the new reality adapted to the Covid-19 under the program Stay Safe with Melia.
Pamper yourself with on-site massages and facials. You're sure to appreciate the recreational amenities, which include 3 outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre and bicycles to rent. This property also features complimentary wireless Internet access, an arcade/games room and gift shops/newsstands.
Unfortunately, our stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing, particularly given the cost. We travelled as a large family group of 9 adults and 8 children, and although we tried not to let individual issues affect our holiday, they unfortunately kept piling up. From check-in, the reception experience felt more focused on explaining potential charges eg for towels than welcoming guests. When I later requested an iron, I was told there was a €20 cash deposit required. When I explained I had no cash, the receptionist simply pointed towards the ATM and shrugged. At one point, I asked ‘are you telling me I can’t get an iron from you so?’ And her reply was ‘if you give me €20 cash you can’. The overall attitude was unnecessarily unhelpful and quite shocking. Even check-out was incredibly abrupt—after returning the required receipts (was told receipts for towels and iron would need to be produced or I would not get my money back) and key cards, I was simply told, “That’s all,” with no basic courtesy such as asking whether we had enjoyed our stay. The food was the biggest disappointment. Healthy options were very limited, at breakfast for example, scrambled eggs were consistently unappetising due to the excessive amount of butter, omelettes were often cold, and coffee stations frequently ran out of milk. More importantly, the children’s food options were extremely poor. After several meals where some of the children ate little more than chips, we ended up eating out for dinner most nights. This completely defeated the purpose of choosing an all-inclusive hotel and added significant expense to an already expensive holiday. There were also several other frustrating issues. Guests were required to keep a plastic cup or token for pool drinks throughout the week, and on our final night we were actually refused drinks in the bar because we didn’t have our pool cups with us (not normally a requirement in the bar but on this night they were due to a pool party going on, which we were also not aware of), despite explaining that we were simply having a drink before going out for dinner. Even when we asked for a manager, the response remained that it was “policy.” On top of this, one family member’s room had an ant infestation, including ants in the bed and suitcases, requiring them to be moved. Another member of our family experienced what appeared to be a double-booking, with another guest entering their room on two occasions. Their key card also failed repeatedly throughout the week, while reception continued to insist that the name on the booking belonged to the other guest. We genuinely tried to overlook the problems and enjoy our holiday as a family, but there were simply too many issues. The lack of hospitality, poor food, inflexible policies and room-related problems made what should have been an enjoyable family holiday unnecessarily stressful and frustrating. Given the cost of the trip, this was particularly disappointing. I would not return to this hotel.
We spent two weeks in Sol Lanzarote, a couple in our 30's, no kids. We had a lovely holiday, with just one or two things we feel could be improved.
The location is fantastic, meters from the beach, a safe entrance and exit from the hotel. Restaurants and bars within walking distance, but also only a short taxi ride to the main strip in Puerto Del Carmen (€7ish). We booked a sea view room, which we would highly recommend. Lovely views of the sea and pool, not much sun on the balcony which we appreciated as it was very hot while we were there and kept the room cool.
The staff are AMAZING, in particular we want to mention John Peter - the lifeguard. He was so friendly and helpful, no ask was too much. Very vigilant at the pool, excellent at his job. The entertainment team was fantastic, high energy, and entertainment throughout the day. All staff we encountered through our stay were excellent and couldn't be more helpful at all times.
Something to note, the hotel is extremely family friendly, which is a positive for those with children, but those with no kids may want to consider this. Evening entertainment was good, but the highlight was the sax and DJ duo during the day at the pool, these play once per week.
The rooms were spotless, a great size and cleaned everyday. This was a high positive for us.
One issue we faced was the Air-conditioning. It was our top priority when booking, and advertised on the site as air-conditioned rooms and public areas. The aircon is on a timer from 2pm-2am only, meaning it is turned off from 2am - 2pm, which meant we were awoken at 2.30am on our first night in a stifling hot room and unable to sleep. We contacted management, and to be fair, they did extend the timing of the aircon until 7am which was an enormous help, however we felt strongly that this should be noted clearly upon booking, as we would not have chosen this hotel had we have known there was air con restrictions.
The food was average. Buffet style food, breakfast and lunch were great, a good variety and a pool bar with snacks available throughout the day. Fresh fruit, salads, fish and deserts were the best quality. We found dinner to be a bit disappointing, the meat quality was very poor in our opinion, and most main courses were very oily and usually contained large bones and fatty meats. We ate out for dinner most of our second week for these reasons. Drinks selection is good, but note that there is only local beers/wines/spirits available free of charge, any branded alcohol must be paid for separately. The quality of the spirits was poor unfortunately. The beer was nice and soft drinks are branded (coke, fanta, sprite) which we were pleased with.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we would return upon enquiring about the air-conditioning and perhaps an increase in food quality. As mentioned, the staff were amazing, they made our whole experience more enjoyable and couldn't have been more helpful.
Nice hotel, we had superior double room and it was really spacious and had a lot of storage. Nice big bathroom. Food was very nice, I enjoyed it a lot, could be a bit more fresh veggies but not a problem. You get your drinks yourself so no waiting. A bit of an issue to get a sun bed around the pool if you don't come there early, they let people in at 10am so if you are an early bird you might be annoyed that you can not use it until then. Beach is just few steps across the road, very nice sandy but because of the wind everything was constantly covered with sand, no sunbeds on the beach but you can pay 14 euro for 2 beds for whole day. Entertainment was nice, darts, a lot of activities at the pools! Kids club nice but only works for several hours a day, aroumd 2h in the morning and 2h after lunch i believe. Did not like using plastic reusable cups for drinks during the day. You need to pay 5 euro deposit for beach towels. 20 minutes by bus from the airport, 7 mins by taxi. Would consider going back in the future.
Excellent seafront location. Brilliant atmosphere in hotel. My child (4) loved the entertainment at night. All staff very friendly and accommodating. Special shoutout to Lorenzo who not only had the children dancing in the evenings also provided great adult entertainment during the day. Great spacious , clean room with amazing views. (Sol xtra) good variety of food. Would definitely return to this hotel.
Lorenzo was great good laugh with him every time made the holiday!!!
