Disappointing second visit – inconsistent policies and poor customer service

This was our second visit to Oasis Lanz Beach Mate, having really enjoyed our stay last year, so unfortunately this visit was particularly disappointing.

On arrival, the lady on reception was lovely. We remembered her from our previous visit and, as before, she was very welcoming and pleasant. Unfortunately, one of our rooms had a pile of dirty towels left in the corner and the bin had not been emptied. As it was late, we simply put the towels outside the door, but it certainly wasn’t the best first impression. The other room had the sink plug blocked in so water was unable to be drained.

The breakfast was good, with a wide variety of food to suit different tastes, and the restaurant staff were all lovely. The hotel itself is also in a good location and is very attractive.

Sadly, this is where the positives largely end.

With the exception of one member of the reception team, we found the reception staff to be quite stand-offish and, on occasions, rude. We had a minor injury during our stay which required an ice pack to help with swelling and bruising. As it was after 10pm, reception told us they could not provide ice and instead offered bandages or iodine, suggesting that we go to a local bar or restaurant to obtain some. In my opinion, a hotel of this size should be able to provide something as basic as an ice pack for a minor injury. Juan then offered to call an ambulance or doctor, which seemed completely disproportionate to the situation.

I asked to speak to the manager and was told that my room number had been passed on and that she had all my contact details. I was told I would be contacted, but nobody got in touch with me the following day.

The situation regarding the sun loungers was another major issue. We left the hotel to walk to a local shop, which is approximately three minutes away. We left at 11:44am and returned at 12:10pm — meaning the loungers had been unattended for a maximum of around 25 minutes. When my husband spoke to reception, he was told that we had been away for an hour and a half. This was simply not true.

I subsequently spoke to Maria, the manager, who explained that reception had been told we were away for 1.5 hours. I explained that this was categorically incorrect, and I had photographic evidence showing my children outside our hotel room at 11:36am.

The hotel policy states that sun loungers cannot be left unattended for more than one hour. I have no problem with that rule and completely understand why such a policy might be necessary. However, when I questioned how it was being applied, Maria told me that sometimes the limit is one hour, sometimes it is 50 minutes, and sometimes it is not applied at all. That is where the problem lies. If a policy is in place, it should be clearly communicated and applied consistently and fairly to everyone.

For example, the loungers next to ours had been left unattended before we went to the shop and, as far as we could see, remained unattended for around four hours, yet no card was placed on those loungers. We were also told that towels should not be placed on loungers before 10am, yet towels were already on practically every lounger before that time. Again, it felt as though the rules were being applied selectively.

There were also inconsistencies regarding the pool safety rules. Our children were in the pool while being supervised by both myself and my husband. Both can swim and are over six years old, which appeared to comply with the pool rules displayed beside the pool. The lifeguard then approached us and said they could not be in the pool because my daughter was under six. I corrected him and explained that she is almost seven and can swim. He then told us that the law had changed and that the pool rules displayed by the hotel were out of date and therefore incorrect.

If the law has genuinely changed, surely the hotel should be displaying the correct and current regulations, particularly when health and safety is apparently taken so seriously.

We were also told that the lifeguards monitor the pool at all times to ensure everyone’s safety. Unfortunately, this didn’t appear to be the case during our stay. On several occasions the lifeguard left the pool area, including visits to the restaurant and the second pool area, and on one occasion appeared to be away for over an hour.

Ultimately, the biggest disappointment was the lack of consistency. We completely understand that mistakes can happen and that hotels need rules and policies. What is frustrating is when those rules appear to change depending on the situation or are not applied equally to all guests. WiFi not the best, cuts in and out. Bathroom not really ideal for a family set up, clear doors with no real privacy. Ok for families with younger children. If getting a family room I would recommend an upstairs room as the noice from above is horrendous, sounded like a herd of elephants above us, the walls are paper thin.

We left feeling that we had been singled out and treated differently from other guests, which is an awful feeling when you are supposed to be enjoying your holiday.

It is a real shame because we had such a lovely experience here last year. The hotel has a great location, looks lovely, the breakfast is good and the restaurant staff were excellent. However, the issues with customer service, inconsistent enforcement of policies and conflicting information regarding safety rules have completely changed our opinion.

Sadly, despite enjoying our first visit, we will not be returning.

Amazing

Hotel Oasis Lanz Beach was truly amazing. I’d say: don’t hesitate—just book it. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from the very first moment—from the reception and housekeeping teams to the staff at breakfast and dinner. The hotel is well-kept, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. It’s quiet in the evenings; if you’re looking for entertainment, this isn’t the place for you. The breakfast is largely the same every morning, but there is such a huge variety that there’s something for everyone. My partner is vegetarian and had plenty of options at both breakfast and dinner. There is a different theme for dinner each night. The food is tasty and the selection is plentiful, so I don’t understand why I read some negative reviews. Our room was spacious and tidy. Sure, there was a small spot on the wall here or a tiny dent or scratch there, but that’s bound to happen. The room was cleaned every day—and believe me, that’s a huge plus with all that sand around. We received fresh towels daily. It was just a short distance to the restaurants, bars, and the sea; the hotel is very centrally located. In short: a really lovely, friendly, and well-maintained hotel.

Third time lucky!

This review is based on our third visit to the Oasis Lanz Beach Mate Hotel.

Reception The welcome, as always by the staff was exceptional. They acknowledged that this was our third time staying here which was a lovely touch, there is no tourist tax to pay either which we had not realised. The staff are very informative, and gave us all the information we needed. What was stressed to us however, is the new sunbed reservation policy, which has always been in place, as we had never had issues with getting a sunbed on our previous visits, however I imagine due to it being high season, there are some occasional issues with reserving sunbeds and people leaving for the morning, half the day, etc and not using them.

Room We stayed in a Junior Suite, room 223 and it was exceptional. On our arrival, we got a huge bottle of water which was a nice surprise. The room was very large, with a super king size bed which was memory foam which was extremely comfortable, a sofa, coffee table, huge wardrobe with drawers, desk with fridge, TV with some English channels, tea and coffee making facilities, balcony with chairs and table, and a drying rack. The bathroom was equally as big, with a huge shower with rainfall and handheld attachment. Toiletries are provided too. Our room had a great view over the quieter pool with the pool bar, and got the morning sun. It was super quiet, which we enjoyed and slept very well! Our only recommendation was that the doors needed some sheers/thin curtains to have some privacy, as you can see straight into the room opposite and vice versa. It is worth mentioning that the water is heated by solar power, therefore it does take a few moments for the water to heat up which you are told about by the sink. Room was serviced every day, floor swept/mopped, fresh towels, sheets changed, new cups, glasses etc.

Breakfast We opted for the Bed and Breakfast board basis, as we find there are plenty of very good pubs/bars/restaurants to eat out in in the resort. It is your usual affair of full English, but the selection is vast, loads of pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cold meats and cheeses, cereals, toast and bread, decent tea and coffee, with the option for freshly made pancakes, omelettes, toasties, fried eggs from the outside kitchen. It was a great selection, however can get fairly busy from 9:30am onwards.

Pools We always stayed and enjoyed being by the pool as you come out of the reception… the quiet pool if you will! Never an issue getting a sunbed, and no queuing/fighting for a bed. If you struggled to find a bed, which was only once out of our 10 day stay, the lifeguards are very approachable and will help you to find one. They actively place down cards if a bed has been vacant for a while, and will take towels away if they are not being used, which makes it fair for everyone. We never used the other pool, but it seems that is more of the family side as it has a bigger kids pool than the quieter side. There are plenty of umbrellas too. The pool bar, is very reasonably priced for food and drinks and has a great menu. Beer on draught is Amstel. The food is always freshly made to order and is always hot. Pool this time round wasn’t heated highly, but it wasn’t absolutely freezing to get in to, so was still heated in some sense. We did ask at reception regarding it, and they told us that guests wanted it cooler so they turned down the heater.

Overall, we had an absolutely wonderful stay at the Oasis Lanz once again, and always recommend it. It is truly a place to just come over to and switch off, the staff all work incredibly hard to ensure the hotel is the ‘Oasis’ they want it to be, and it truly does pay off! Thank you once again Oasis Lanz for a lovely holiday!

Will definitely return

Just back from a week staying at Oasis Lanz Beach Mate. Juan on reception did the check in for us and was really friendly so good first impression.

We had a third floor junior suite so carrying cases up isn’t ideal and probably not very quiet for the other floors as we passed them. All rooms are like separate apartments almost, own outside front door in to your room.

Room was lovely and spacious and clean. Good air con. First morning we had a problem with the kettle in that in didn’t stop boiling and spewed out boiling water everywhere which wasn’t great but when reported to reception the kettle was replaced immediately which was appreciated. The woman on reception also made sure no one had been burned. Had an issue with the TV the last 2 days but we didn’t report it so can’t complain it wasn’t sorted.

Location is fantastic - everything is so close by. Spar a few minutes away, the square only a matter of minutes, loads of shops and restaurants no matter what way you go. Prime spot for this hotel.

We were B&B but only actually had breakfast in the hotel 2 days. Plenty selection and as a vegetarian found I wasn’t stuck. Husband not a vegetarian so definitely plenty options for him.

Cannot comment on evening meals or the pool bar as we never had an evening meal or used the pool bar.

Perhaps my favourite thing about this place is the lovely little black cat which I think has made this place its home. Very friendly, appears young, and was happy to take some treats every night we saw him (I came prepared!)

We managed a late checkout which was great for a late flight home. Still had to be checked out by 2pm and cost €20 but I found that reasonable and there is a luggage store for your cases etc.

When we checked out we were told we had a bill for extras - we did not as we hadn’t bought any food or drink in the hotel. We explained this and had to sign to have it cancelled. While I appreciate it was sorted without issue, I wonder how the system works for charging to rooms. I would guess someone just said a room number and it happened to be incorrect and ours! Perhaps there could be a better way such as providing surname as well as room number and then this could be verified or charge it to the specific room key somehow?

As we left for the bus, we were kindly shown a more convenient way to go and assisted with our luggage which was appreciated.

Just a suggestion to the hotel - the little signs for going on the door handles for whether you want to have your room cleaned early or left with so not disturb for a while - due to the wind in Costa Teguise and as these are reversible and attached to the handle by black elastic, these spin round no matter what way you put it on the door. Twice during our stay we had cleaning staff knocking on our door, one day quite early, even though we had the do not disturb sign on. The second time it happened the cleaner was about to come in but I managed to get to the door from bed first and say we were still in bed. She pointed to the sign which showed blue (please clean room) and I tapped it and it turned back the way it was supposed to be. We always changed this when we went out each day and our room was always cleaned and made up for us coming back but I do think there could be a better system here, or individual signs so there can be no mistaking the request.

Overall we had a fantastic stay and this will definitely be our return hotel when we next go back to Costa Teguise. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic holiday!

Got back from this hotel at the end of July for 1 week..wished it was longer! So starting from the moment of booking in and through to checking out..we literally couldn't say a bad word! Staff were amazing on Reception and even changed one ov our rooms due to mobility issues with the grandparents. Fantastic service...our rooms were lovely! Clean, fresh, tidy, well kept and very spacious( we had the junior executive suite..i think). Maid service was great and she was friendly and spoke good English too..well done. The grounds around the rooms and pool area were very clean tidy and well kept. Pools lovely and clean...great sunbed access..no trouble. Breakfast only for us and wowser...lovely! Lots of choice...hot...tasty...clean tidy and great staff! We never had food in the evening though. Bar service was good...ok prices and snacks ok but we rarely ate and drank at the bar as we would go elsewhere for lunch times. So in terms of location this hotel was spot on!!! Literally just across the road was the Square( where it all happens) absolutely fantastic bars and restaurants everywhere and thriving every evening...just sooooo good!! We found lots of variety Recommendations of food places...Juanita Mumbai...La Familia...Kittys Bar....just walk everywhere and check them all out! Beaches lovely too...with some lovely bars around the beach cove...like the Cutty Sark and Dolphin Inn. All in all I literally loved this holiday and cannot wait to go back another time! Thankyou Oasis Lanz Beach Mate and Costa Teguise😁😁
