Great location, very good food, (mostly) friendly staff, 2 nice pools with sun loungers – the only area needing improvement is the rooms and the small gym.
We stayed at Don Gregory by Dunas for two weeks (half board) as a couple in our 20s and had a really enjoyable holiday overall.
Location & Facilities The hotel’s beachfront location is fantastic. There’s a direct gate to the beach, the sand is clean, and the water is cool but comfortable. Our room had a beautiful sea view, which made the stay feel extra special. The pool area was also great — warm all day thanks to the sun, and no sun‑lounger wars at all. Plenty of loungers, each pair with their own umbrella. Note, if you leave your towel unattended between 8-10 (even though the sign says 8-9) it may get moved to one side by the lifeguard. They also give out free fruit or drinks around the pool at 12:30 every day which is a nice touch. One small note about the hotel is the entrance is the smoking area, so not the greatest welcome when you first arrive.
Staff & Service All staff were consistently polite and kind however we did find our check in and out experiences lacking a personal touch and just felt like another number. We had one small issue with our room being cleaned late in the afternoon (around 3:30pm), but reception sorted this quickly and moved us to an 11am cleaning time, which we appreciated.
Food Food was very good every day. The themed evenings were well executed, with lots of variety — Italian night was the standout. However maybe not the best for fussy eaters. The only minor point is that three themes (Spanish, Gran Canarian, Mediterranean) felt quite similar. Swapping one for something like Greek cuisine or Middle Eastern dishes would add even more variety.
🎭 Entertainment Morning entertainment was the same every day:
Yoga at 10 Aqua gym at 11 A fashion show or product promotion at 12 - We didn’t really consider the midday activity “entertainment”.
Then there was nothing until the evening shows around 9:30pm. Adding something around 3–4pm would make the daytime feel more lively.
The aqua gym sessions were fun thanks to Sandro, Anthea and Mr Shaky Shaky. However, each instructor repeated their own exact same routine every day. After a few days, we knew exactly what was coming from each entertainer. Some variation would make a big difference.
Evening entertainment was mixed — the Candlelight evening, White Party, and especially the dance group were excellent, but many of the other acts were average and we often left early.
Room Our room was comfortable with a great view, but could use a bit of TLC. Some finishes were rough, though nothing that affected our stay. The only real issue was the vent window, which is just a thin piece of 3-4 glass pains (seem to be there for half the hotel room). It let in a lot of sea noise — loud enough on the first night that we thought there was a storm. We got used to it after a couple of days, but better insulation would help.
Due to the hotel being busy we weren't able to get a late checkout however was given 30min access to a courtesy room to shower later in the day.
Local Area There isn’t much to do immediately around the hotel besides the beach. The nearby shopping centre has mostly closed shops or small newsagents, plus a crazy golf course.
Overall A lovely, relaxing stay with great food, friendly staff, a perfect beachfront location, and some standout entertainment nights. With more variety in the daytime activities, few room improvements and a more personal welcome this could easily be a 5‑star experience.
I keep coming back here because it is so good. Location is perfect, right on the beach. Very clean, good food but it’s the staff who make it special. Big shout out to Ofelia who makes it home from home! If you want to relax in a very special place give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
From the very start we loved the place. The receptionists were all very professional, spoke more languages, were very kind and helpfull. The hotel itself could not be a better stay for us. We were in two, myself and my son of 17 years. I am a woman of 47 years, after some serious health problems, but the absolutely perfect place and service didn t make me feel it at all. Some shops are veeeery nearby, such as well as restaurants, bars, etc ... We couldn t miss the occassion of visiting one pub in the shopping center in front of us to see the match between Spain and Argentina. We were totally taken by the atmosphere and very happy to see Spain winning it all. We travelled mostly by bus, also 2 mins to reach the station, where all the busses took us to all other beautifull beaches, mostly loved from the part of my son the beach La Playa del Ingles / because of the bigger waves, that he appreciates / , but also La Playa Veril just few steps of the Ingles one, then we made a trip to see the dolphins, this trip was the organized one with our travel agency Cedok, everything went well, no struggles, the final part of this trip was the possibility to swim in the ocean for a while. Veeeery proffessional staff there! They helped people on the boat in every meaning it might take. We made a trip to Puerto de Mogan, smaller fishermen s village, it took some time with the bus, but no regrets. Very colourfull place, another beach to try, the magical place to see, the port is wonderfull, you can see the different kind of fish there, the ones to see in the water and also the ones you can eat in the restaurants. Sometimes we took the taxi somewhere, for example when my son didnt want to wake up early to catch the last bus for the Palmitos park, but everything alright, we paid around 23 Eur for this journey. For the way back we took the bus directly in front of the park. The dolphins show there is exceptional. You can also take the photo with the dolphin, to take one you pay 20 Eur, but if you take 2, you pay 35 Eur. We didnt like to use the car, so our trips were mostly by bus, sometimes some part of the trip by taxi, need to say that the taxi drivers are fair, you see the amount always on the screen in the taxi. We met very nice people in all the places there, friendly people all around, no problems anywhere. We visited also the famous Yumbo center for a sec. Gran Canaria-best choice ever! And we have travelled before ....
Our 7-day stay at Don Gregory was truly unforgettable. Great location, our appartment overviewing the beach. Great collection of food, variety of cuisines offered. Cleaning services excellent. In general the whole staff members including reception, waiters and restaurant cooks were always nice, friendly, highly helpful and supportive. Definitely highly recommended hotel!!
