Puerto Azul

Third time at this hotel, it has everything we need!! Each time we have had a great holiday. Good pools & daytime activities. Evening entertainment is always a good watch & varies each night. Good selection of food at each meal time. Lots of choice! Rooms are comfortable & well equipped, cleaned & fresh towels daily. The animation team work really hard & always put on a great show. They are all amazing & our children love watching their shows. Nice location to get around, taxis available to book from reception. Beautiful sunset views too. Thank you to all staff, everyone works so hard. Thanks for a wonderful time!!

Our thoughts on the Puerto Azul. We had a great family holiday and enjoyed our stay

We’ve just returned from a fantastic stay at Puerto Azul in Gran Canaria and, all in all, we really enjoyed it. The positives definitely outweighed the negatives, and most of the things we noticed were really just minor niggles that, if improved, would make an already good experience even better.

The good 👍

1 - The view from the room. We stayed in room 2713 and the view was absolutely amazing. We loved sitting out and watching the sun rise in the morning, and the balcony getting shade in the evening was a real bonus. It was lovely to be able to relax outside, let the after-sun soak in and unwind while getting ready for the evening. We genuinely couldn’t have asked for a better view.

2 - Another plus which was simple was the room key being part of the wristband. It made things so much easier, as there was no need to carry a key card around or worry about losing it.

3 - The food really impressed us. There was a great variety, and we found it fresh and enjoyable throughout our stay. We were genuinely surprised by how good the selection was. lots of fresh food each day (3 grilled meats & fish per day available) in addition to the other (plentiful) food options.

4 - Room cleanliness wasn't an issue for us, our room was cleaned almost every day, and we got our towels changed daily too.

5 - The location was great for us. A nice walk to Amadores / Mogan Mall and some really good restaurants to choose from if you want to venture out (we particularly enjoyed Taj Palace, the Italian and Shinos Asia).

6 - The entertainment team worked hard, keeping the poolside goind throughout the day, evenings was a little more hit and miss but nothing that would put us off.

7 - We had no complaints about the drinks. We were on the normal all-inclusive package and found the drinks perfectly fine and drinkable.

8 - The location of the park and football pitch, either side of the entertainment area, was brilliant for us as a family. It meant the kids could have a bit of freedom and go off and play while still being within reasonable distance of us.

9 - The gelato was lovely

The niggles 👎

There were a few things which we think could easily be improved.

1 - The towels in the room are too small. Bigger bath towels would make a big difference and seem like such an easy improvement.

2 - There are probably a few too many sunbeds around the pool areas. Removing some would give people more room to walk around, as at busy times it wasn’t always easy to pass between them.

3 - The bar could definitely do with more staff. Another option would be to have more wine pumps/drinks stations available. Beer drinkers seemed well catered for during the day, but if you wanted something other than beer, you could find yourself having to queue at the main bar. This is particularly worth mentioning if you’re considering the All Inclusive Plus package. If you’re paying extra for it, you’d naturally want to use the additional drinks/brand options and therefore you’d be going to the bar more often to get the value from the upgrade. That means you’re likely to encounter the queues, so more staff or additional drinks stations would make a big difference.

4 - We also felt there should be more water stations, and ideally they should be available throughout the whole day rather than being limited to one location (main lobby) at certain times.

5 - The hotel could sometimes feel a little untidy/pigsty-like, More frequent clearing of tables and communal areas would help.

6 - tables were a little close together in the restaurant so it was sometimes hard to get between them to your own and you were clashing chairs with those sat behind.

7 - The Poolside really wet, particularly for the front row and was therefore very slippy. We were on the back row at the main pool overlooking the waterslides / kids splash pool (and yes we were up early for a sunbed but for us this is just a part of a holiday abroad, we've only seen it managed well at one hotel in the past).

8 - We didn’t have any issues with the lifts, mainly because we didn’t really need to use them, so we can’t comment on some of the complaints we’ve seen about those. just including here as some people we spoke to did mention this.

Overall ⭐

Despite the niggles above, we absolutely loved our stay at Puerto Azul. None of the negatives ruined our holiday — they’re more things that we feel could have added that extra bit to the experience.

Overall: a great family holiday and somewhere we’d happily recommend to others.
