Sol Barbacan

Me and my boyfriend chose Sol Barbacán because of its excellent reviews, especially about the entertainment team—and they are absolutely true!

The hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and beautiful swimming pools, making it a great place to relax and enjoy your holiday for everyone.

Carlos, Naira, and Miriam are fantastic entertainers: friendly, energetic, and incredibly enthusiastic. They organize fun activities for all ages, involve everyone without being pushy, and create a warm, lively atmosphere every day.

Their passion and positive energy have made our holiday even more enjoyable. We highly recommend Sol Barbacán, especially for its outstanding animation team! We would definitely come back.

We do not tend to write reviews of our experiences but felt compelled to do so here given the positive experience that we had at Sol Barbacan. Our normal experience is to hire Villas but this year decided on a hotel and chose this hotel which was a bit of an unknown for us, both in locality of the Canaries and the hotel chain. We travelled as a family of 4 on half board.

Roughly 25 minutes from the airport, we originally booked a private transfer but there was an abundance of Taxis there and will roughly cost 55Eur for a standard vehicle. Around the hotel (externally 3-5 mins walk), there are a number of restaurants and a couple of convenience stores. It is a 15 minute walk to the beach (5EUR in Taxi), a local shopping area 10 mins walk away. The water park is well worth a visit and roughly 10EUR. Well worth a visit.

Back to the hotel. Reception staff very welcoming, clean and have a good grasp of English, which was great in comparison to our attempt at Spanish. Rest of the resort is very clean and well kept and it nice and small in a good way. There was lots of Dutch at the hotel primarily but this isn't a negative and generally it is more European than British residents.

We had one of the bungalows and were very fortunate to have one next to the main restaurant for the breakfast and dinner and what I would describe as the quiet pool. They have two beds, two bathroom, roof terrace and outdoor terrace so lots of space and a nice space in the lounge. There is a small kitchen area, with a fridge freezer, hob and a microwave. Kitchen well equipped for basic tasks. You probably wouldn't need much more.

There are 3 pools. 2 kid friendly one adult only. The pool we spent most of our time at was the pool closest to our bungalow but it didn't have the water slides. The one with the slides tends to be busier as a lot of the animation team spend their time there so more activities going on, other than the exceptional aqua aerobics. Carlos' sessions will be written into Barbacan folklore. He has a charismatic lovely way Pools do not open until 10am and there isn't a mad rush for sun beds. If you put your towels down and do not return within 30-45 minutes during busy periods they did pack your things away. Personally i was dreading this part of a hotel stay but the residents themselves, the staff it seems to be managed in a mature and effective way. There tended to be beds available most of the time, as due to location people often explored elsewhere.

Staff All really great, make you feel welcoming and all smiling. They work exceptionally hard and they should all be commended on how good they all are in our experience. Bar/Waiting staff too, all very good.

Animation Team Amazing! Our main interaction was with Carlos, Max and Nira (Kid's mini disco). They are lovely sit and have a conversation with and find out more about them but also as well as making everyone feel absolutely welcome. My youngest boy (7), wanted to hit the mini disco every night, it's only 30 mins but he loved it. They should all really be praised by the hotel management. Without them, it just feels that a little bit would be missing.

Buffet Breakfast - Great variety of European and more english fare for breakfast which was perfect and you won't go without.

Lunch - Plenty to choose off the menu reasonably priced.

Dinner - Again great variety and good quality but as adults we got a bored (this isn't a reflection of the food on offer) of the buffet but the boys classed it is 'their paradise' so we often lost the argument as to eat elsewhere and we couldn't miss the kids disco of course! There is a wine menu which is worth exploring, well priced. We tried most bottles of white and were all nice.

We stayed 9 days, we didn't want to leave but we will certainly return and we tend to try and not go to the same place twice. If you are thinking of staying here, I don't think you can go wrong from the location, the hotel itself and certainly the people that work there.

Shout out again to Carlos, Max and Nira again and everyone else at Sol Barbacan for making our experience a thing of memories.

On our last night of 12, this place is AMAZING! Clean, comfortable, friendly and helpful staff. Cleaners are incredible. Stayed in Bungalow 2 which was clean, spacious with a beautiful terrace and roof top terrace. Plenty of room for 4 adults. The grounds are super clean. So much going on all day. Food in pool bar was lovely and a good price. Would 100% stay again.
