This attractive hotel is ideally located in the popular holiday resort of Playa del Inglés in the south of Gran Canaria. It features an outdoor pool, an excellent spa area, a gym, a restaurant and three bars. The resort centre with countless shops, restaurants, bars, pubs and entertainment options is within a short stroll; the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the beach.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
This is a fantastic place for a holiday. The hotel caters mostly to Dutch and Spanish guests, but that wasn’t an issue for us at all. The resort is absolutely spotless, and the staff work exceptionally hard to maintain that standard. Any issues around or in the pool were resolved almost immediately—huge thumbs up! The team behind the bars were fantastic, always happy and smiling, and the animation team worked tirelessly to make our trip memorable. The food was standard all-inclusive fare, and we had no complaints. You can get freshly made hot dogs and burgers at the pool bar throughout the day. (Pro tip: if you're expecting steak every night, all-inclusive probably isn't for you!) Our room was spacious and clean. While the corridors felt a bit dated, it didn't bother us. The spa was amazing, and the Dead Sea area is a must-try—all included in the price except for massages. We did have a few minor downsides, mostly regarding the evening entertainment. The "live music" was a bit of a disaster. I respect anyone brave enough to perform on stage, but the music was catered to a much older crowd and was quite boring—except for Friday’s themed party, which was brilliant. The children's entertainment and animation team shows were held indoors, and those were actually very good. Suggestion for management: Swap the venues! Put the lively animation shows outside where there’s more space, and move the quiet live music inside. Also, note that there is no air conditioning in the indoor show area. Overall, a solid 4 stars from us. If the hotel swaps the entertainment venues around, it would easily be a 5-star stay.
Positives: it’s clean and the food at the pool bar and Don Miguel (ala carte) are really good. Enough sunbeds and a nice spa apartment. Market next to the hotel if you want snacks or water. It’s a big hotel, but not noisy. Entertainment for both adults and kids every night.
Less positive: average food at det buffet’s. It needs small upgrades to be a 4’th star hotel. Quite a distance to the beach. Approximately 20 min walk. Cheap taxi though.. The hotel has a bus- transfer for a beach, but that’s a beach in Maspolamas. We preferred the beach in Playa del ingles. Some of the artists are almost unpleasant to listen to.
We are here now arrived late last night and wow wow wow the place is spotless the staff are so lovely and the rooms also fab great size !! The food also honestly so good so many options in the day the à la carte honestly looks so delicious and the pizza place fresh pizza made all day and whole chickens the other one offers chips hotdogs and burgers everything is wonderful the pool is large and clean xxx
Currently still at this hotel, and to be honest looking forward to going back to the UK. A European hotel who cater for all, just not very welcoming if you are British. Just don’t open your mouth to speak, because once you do, for many their attitude changes in a heartbeat. Rude, abrupt and in some cases damn right abrasive. Even when us ‘lazy’ Brits try and attempt to speak the Spanish language (and rightly so) the feedback is ‘poor’. I swore blind several years ago after a horrid time at another so called ‘European’ hotel in Albir, I would never go back to Spain. Having relented having been nagged by the kids, I gave in. Never again will I come back to Spain whether it be the mainland or Island chains; I don’t know what it is, is it the fact we left the EU or they still hung up on Gibraltar being British territory? Who knows, what I do know, we won’t be coming back again.
Generally the hotel is very good, clean and tidy and the staff all work very hard. Food is very good (bit samey samey), facilities very good, location very good. I think the entertainment budget must have been blown elsewhere, as the acts are ‘awful’, and that’s being kind. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t expecting Robbie Williams or Taylor Swift, but it’s like some (cough cough) ‘artists’ got dragged in off the street last minute.
What lets the whole experience down is the poor customer service/attitude throughout the hotel, especially with some of the pool side staff. Maybe the Human Resources Manager/s should send their staff on some customer service training!?
If you’re Spanish and European, this is the place for you; if you are British, I would possibly avoid.
Nicest thing about this hotel…..the Ginger hotel Cat! Adorable!
If you are British I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Majority of staff are very very rude, abrupt and aggressive. Seem very unhappy in their jobs, few smile, seem worse towards British travellers. They should remember without paying customers, Brits included, they may be out of work!
Pool bar in particular were rude and miserable, Palmera Bar a little happier, but Hurmna (sorry if spelling is incorrect, when I asked her name she said it so fast and disappeared before I could catch it or read her name tag properly) is very rude, to Brits, can’t do enough for the Spanish though. She came over being very loud and waving her sign (not allowed to move tables) as we had moved a table a couple of inches (literally) to get some shade (we have children), as had another couple. It wasn’t the fact she came and said we couldn’t move a table (even though it was literally a few inches and causing no issue, we’ve seen so many do it, especially at night. The sign is on the bar I assume, we had missed it), it’s the way she came over, loud, aggressive, made a scene, in front of everyone, as another reviewer said, treated like naughty kids, we’re adults, treat us like that. We missed the sign, had seen others do it with no issue, it didn’t warrant the way she came over. She (along with other staff) needs to learns some manners and needs some customer service training, there are other, more respectful ways, she could have dealt with the situation, she came over like a dictator, trying to make herself look big. Same thing happened to another family in the restaurant, they missed the sign on one side of the pillar, woman in a beige suit came over, shouting and gesturing, it’s a table for goodness sake!
Cleaners work really hard to keep everything spotless. Rooms lovely.
Food is good, a bit repetitive, but you can find something. Main restaurant is very busy at times, like a school canteen. Don Miguel food is really lovely and very quick service. Pool snack food is also good. Reception staff are ok.
Drago bar staff are better than the others, don’t smile much but less rude and arrogant than Pool Bar and Palmera.
Sun loungers are a pain on occasion, pool staff sometimes remove towels if people don’t return, sometimes they don’t, at least not quickly. 1 family put towels on 8 loungers before 08:45, they turned up at 16:30! Staff had removed them, but not until 16:00!! So many people came looking for loungers, they should have been removed way before that.
Evening entertainment is absolutely awful. It’s painful to listen to some of them.
Animation team seemed to work really hard, our family didn’t interact much with them, but from what we observed the kids seem to enjoy.
Location is great, recommend the Chinese restaurant just around the corner, Chino Chinasol (left and then left again past the supermarket), beautiful food and quick service.
Wellbeing Spa is lovely, we used that quite a bit.
We could walk to the beach in around 10 mins, which was great.
All in all, good and bad at this hotel, some of the staff really are horrible and rude, and unfortunately, the staff are the only reason we wouldn’t return to this hotel.
