We’re lucky enough to have stayed in a number of 5 star hotels and this one has been a real disappointment. I am writing this from my crammed in sun lounger, where for the 5th day we have had to secure a sun lounger by 9am or forget it. Forcing our family to have to eat breakfast separately.
Pros:
Location is brilliant. Plenty of great quality restaurants out the front and back of the hotel.
Stunning sunsets out the back of the hotel to watch on the promenade.
Pools are great and warm too. There’s a couple of lifeguards’ dotted about, but far more interested in looking at their phones than actually doing the job they’re employed to do.
Pools are so big with varying depth it’s easy for a child or adult to misjudge depth and end up in trouble.
house keeping is good. Rooms were well cleaned.
Onsite shop - this is a god send. It’s actually quicker to go there and get a drink than waiting to be served at the bars.
Cons:
Check-in: If you’re used to staying in 5 star hotels and accustomed to warm welcomes and a drink upon arrival, you won’t receive any of this here. Be prepared to be underwhelmed.
Rooms: deluxe with garden view is spacious for 2 adults and a child. Could do with some air con in bathrooms. No drinking glasses in the room. If you want some, it incurs a €5 charge from room service. Rooms can be quite noisy especially when occupants of neighbouring rooms are using balconies and scraping the chairs. Easy solution would be for the hotel to put pads on the base of the legs to reduce the noise. Dressing table with vanity mirror is handy but no plug socket near by if you want to dry your hair while others are using the shower. Poor design. Also poor design of the positioning of wardrobes.
If you want a bar of soap, cotton buds, toothbrush etc (all the stuff you expect in a 5 star) you have to request this via the app.
Service: the hotel is clearly understaffed and this is having a knock on effect on staff engagement and service mentality. A number of serving staff seem really unhappy. The pool bars have signs asking you to wait to be seated yet no one comes to you so it becomes a free for all and then it’s a lotto on whether you get served at the table or have to join long queues. Swim up bar is not a bar, it’s a serving hatch. Only men take the table service orders in the bars and women do the serving/cleaning. Very evident in the Arenal bar. I sat for 20 minutes waiting to be served at the table and ended up having to join a long queue where there was 4 women serving at the bar but the 1 male who does the table service was not there so no one was able to do the table service. Madness.
Luna bar, I queued for 10 minutes. Finally served only for the server to abandon me to deal with another customer. I waited patiently for another 3 minutes and still not served.
I appreciate the language barriers that can occur but quite often some servers can appear as being really rude.
Entertainment - this is outside where the water fountains (that are rarely on) are. This is badly thought out and not with the resident in mind. There is no where near enough seating. Residents end up sitting on walls and the floor to watch the entertainment. Aesthetics of hotel are clearly a bigger priority over the practicality and doing what is right for the customer.
Food - good selection at breakfast. Lunch time menus and snacks at the pool bars are really poor and bad quality for the price.
Smoking- residents smoke while on sun loungers and there are no clear rules around non smoking areas.
We paid for a 5 star experience. The aesthetics, pools etc are lovely but sadly the hotel is too vast and understaffed to deliver a 5 star service. It is at best a 3 star when it comes to service.
Excellent hotel gorgeous pools and gardens. Great entertainment and food at breakfast was very good, plenty to choose from.I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Easy access to promenade and great lazy river and infinity pool. Never felt too over crowded considering the size. Good management of sun beds, but they do need to perhaps have more, for later arrivals to the pool. Only issue was that if there is no late rooms available had to use the tennis court changing rooms, which were a big let down to what was a really great holiday. Spa facilities should be provided to shower and change before leaving the hotel. This was a disappointment and not 5 star, as in other hotels. Excellent rooms and clean in all area's of the hotel.I would recommend to friends to stay here
Amazing spanish hospitality. I am very satisfied with the service. The waitstaff was friendly, attentive, and professional, especially Ruben. Grady place to visit.
Ruben best Service off all time
The aircon and tv in our room 6265 didn’t work. We asked about it at reception was bluntly told the tv isn’t working and that was it, no apology or offer to come have a look. They said they would send someone to check aircon and never did. There was gluten free options at breakfast but when we asked at pool bar we were very bluntly told “no gluten free” - they didn’t suggest anything they could do for us which was very poor for such a large resort. This meant we would have to leave the resort for lunch and then our sunbeds would be taken - I agree with the no sunbed reserving for over an hour rule I think it’s great, but our towels were always removed after 30mins I started taking pictures of the times as proof we weren’t gone for long - we had to eat breakfast separately if we wanted to not risk our beds being taken. It was disappointing for such a large resort they could do with more beds if they are going to remove your towels after 30mins. I paid €75 for a massage and there was banging and drilling constantly going on directly above the room I was in , the lady apologised and it was a good massage but not relaxing because of this. Overall the hotel has lots of pools, the drinks are good and breakfast options very good and great location also the cleaning staff are very friendly. But we were very disappointed with how we were treated. A smile goes a long way! Our room was such a disappointment, I wouldn’t recommend or return unfortunately I would check out the other nearby resorts.
