Close to the historical lighthouse, the beautiful sand dunes of Maspalomas beach and the promenade with its luxurious boutiques, this hotel is ideally situated in the exclusive tourist area of Meloneras. Restaurants and bars can be found on the hotel's doorstep. The airport is about 25-minute drive away. The wonderful outdoor pool area is the ideal place where to spend a holiday since sunbathing, resting under the shadow of an umbrella or having a refreshing swim while enjoying the relaxing environment is something guests cannot miss. The property also offers delicious delights along with agreeable surroundings. The spending rooms are nicely decorated with soothing colours and come equipped with all the amenities needed for a pleasant and unforgettable stay.
Dip into one of the 9 outdoor swimming pools or enjoy other recreational amenities including a lazy river and a fitness centre. Additional amenities at this hotel include complimentary wireless Internet access, babysitting (surcharge) and an arcade/games room.
Stayed with family and our toom had a small private pool. We also booked the unique package which included drinks in the lounge bar with snacks, and access to a beautiful area for breakfast and loungers in the unique section at the main pool. This hotel is exceptional in every way from decor to atmosphere to food and to staff. Faultless and a short walk to the beach and shops.
Recently stayed for 2 weeks & had just the best time. Impressive entrance, African themed throughout. Welcome 🥂whilst checking in, our room was lovely. Everything you need to hand, big balcony, plenty of storage, TV, fridge, safe. Rooms were regularly cleaned and you only had to ask for things. The most gorgeous fragance is pumped into the hotel, it adds to the ambiance. The grounds are immaculate and hidden between the greenery are animal statues. Lots of waterfalls, jungle noises and the cutest resident terrapins. On site supermarket and gift shop.
Whilst we were there, Audi were holding some huge annual event every day. Some parts were closed off for them.
Breakfast was great, plenty of choice and two restaurants to choose from. We had the dinner buffet a couple of times, this wasn’t so great. Not a brilliant choice and the steak was very tough. The paella pretty dry and salty. We tried the dinner buffet across the road at their sister hotel, Costa Melonares, so much choice, it was huge. The food was really tasty although the duck was tough and inedible the night we went.
Enough pools and sunloungers at the Baobab, lovely drinks and snacks and Aqua Gym etc to keep you moving! As with a lot of hotels, guests were up super early reserving sunbeds, sad in our opinion and unnecessary. The staff really need to address this and enforce removal of towels. The entertainment was poor, we went out every night. It needs more variety and entertainment.
Visited the spa/hair salon during our stay, lovely ladies working there and the hairdresser was fab.
Location is perfect, the rear entrance/exit of the hotel takes you out into an array of shops, bars and restaurants. You can walk down to the beach and lighthouse. Even pop over the road to the Costa Melonares for a drink.
Would definitely return, in fact looking at February time when we’ll be in need of some sun.
We holiday in Gran Canaria three times a year and have stayed in many hotels over the years. This time we gave Lopesan Baobab a try and from the moment you arrive it truly blows you away. No matter where you are in the hotel it’s spectacular. Whether you enjoy the family and busy pools or the quieter pools there is something for everyone. We chose to stay around the chocolate pool which is much better suited to adults being quieter and a real Jem where you can unwind and relax. The rooms are tastefully decorated in keeping with the African theme. Staff from Reception, Cleaners and Restaurants are all very friendly. We booked direct with the hotel and this was certainly the best price I could find. If you do visit definitely contact the hotel beforehand and arrange a private transfer.
Just got back from one weeks stay at the Baobab, and after reading a lot of reviews I can understand a lot of the previous feedback. First of all the hotel is spotless, wherever you look there is someone cleaning, tidying away etc and the staff/servers are always happy and friendly! The reception staff seem to get a bad rap on here but any experience I had was always pleasant and professional. We got an upgrade to a family room which was huge! However, it was a LONG walk from anywhere, one thing that surprised me the most was the scope of this hotel, it is truly HUGE! So it mobility is an issue it might be something to consider! The room itself, like a lot of the feedback, is VERY dark, little to no light, which can make it a bit awkward. We had loose electrical fittings, wonky toilet holders, and it just looked like it needed a little update, especially not having any USB ports etc, seems crazy for a 5* hotel! Same with the pools, lots of tiles missing, just needs a little upkeep/maintenance.
My biggest ‘gripe’ with the hotel though through no fault of their own, is that it is a VERY family friendly hotel. Everywhere you turn there are families with young children, now everyone deserves a holiday, however if you plan to relax somewhere quiet, it is almost impossible. There are a lot of beautiful pools, however I find it disappointing that none of them are sectioned off for ‘adults only’. This would solve a big problem that a lot of people seem to have with this hotel. Sun loungers were readily available but you would position yourself somewhere quiet and within an hour you would have hoards of young kids screaming and jumping into the pool getting you soaked throughout the day. Again, this isn’t the hotels fault, however I do think they could take steps to accommodate those that have maybe come here for a relaxing time away, opposed to a family trip. Another little gripe is wasps/bees everywhere! There is a lot of greenery which attracts lots of pests, luckily they stayed away but did keep you on your toes a bit! Would I recommend Baobab as a place to stay? Yes, 100% for the right people, but would I recommend to another young couple with no children? No, I’d say go somewhere else.
Regardless, still had a lovely time away. Always a pleasure coming to Maspalomas
Thought I was getting a double bed but two single beds pushed together on wheels, we kept falling down the middle. Spent a week and could not find the hotel gym, very large complex with no signage at all. Upgraded to unique package but felt the food was lacking and bland. Staff were friendly and house keeping was spotless. Rooms are very dark and you can hear rooms above walking around and phones buzzing. The restaurant experience was akin to a school canteen vibe, being told where to sit and plates snatched under you on near empty plate. Decided to eat out by day 3. Couldn't get a decent coffee and ordered nachos that were stale by the pool. My advice is eat elsewhere. Not five star in our view.
