Hotel LIVVO Los Calderones

We stayed for 5 nights in July and had a lovely break at this hotel. It is situated in a quiet area of Maslapomas. The only downside is there is a very large family hotel nearby with loud evening entertainment- this however did finish about 10:30pm. The duplex apartments are nicely furnished, spacious and spotlessly clean. The grounds are gorgeous and lush with planting, they have an amazing bonzi collection! Again, the grounds, pool area and facilities are clean and well looked after. All the staff were a delight, very friendly and helpful. We stayed half board, the breakfasts had everything you could imagine on offer and the buffet dinners were nice and varied. The hotel offer a free shuttle bus to the beach throughout the day and there is a very good public bus service nearby which can take you all over the island.

A great place to stay if you want a quiet break.

Just something to be aware of, the buses get full at peak times and they just drive on by! Particularly on Friday to Porto Morgan for the market.

I recently stayed at Hotel LIVVO Los Calderones for 10 nights, and unfortunately, it did not live up to our expectations.

The biggest issue was the mattress, which was genuinely the worst I’ve ever slept on in a hotel. It was extremely uncomfortable and left me with back pain throughout the stay, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. To make matters worse, the air conditioning in the upstairs bedroom did not work properly, making it difficult to keep the room at a comfortable temperature during the night.

Although the rooms are advertised as duplexes, they are surprisingly small and feel quite cramped. On top of that, the soundproofing is very poor—we could hear almost everything happening in the room next door, which made it difficult to relax.

For two consecutive days, our stay was negatively affected by a group of heavily intoxicated guests who were shouting, disturbing other guests, and behaving aggressively. The situation escalated into a physical confrontation with another guest, yet the hotel staff appeared unable to manage it effectively. Despite the guests’ obvious intoxication, they continued to be served alcohol. It was only after we insisted that the police be called that the hotel finally took action. What was even more concerning was that, despite the seriousness of the incident and the violence that had taken place, the guests were allowed to remain at the hotel. This left us feeling very unsafe for the remainder of our stay and completely undermined the relaxing, adults-only atmosphere we had expected.

Housekeeping and attention to detail were also disappointing. Basic amenities such as body wash were not replenished automatically, meaning we had to request refills. On one occasion, we were left without any body wash for the evening, which shouldn’t happen at a hotel of this standard.

We booked half board, but the food was consistently below average. The dinner buffet lacked variety, and many dishes were bland and uninspiring. One evening, while eating dessert, we discovered a large fly inside it. We immediately brought it to the attention of the chef, but instead of receiving an apology, the plate was simply taken away as if they wanted to remove the evidence, with no acknowledgement of the incident or concern for the experience. Breakfast was equally disappointing, with poor-quality coffee, artificial-tasting juices, and an overall limited selection.

One point worth mentioning is that, despite being marketed as an “Adults Only” hotel, children aged 13 and over are allowed. If you’re expecting a strictly adult environment, you should be aware that you’ll likely encounter teenagers during your stay.

The hotel’s facilities themselves are well maintained, and the pool and communal areas are pleasant. However, comfortable accommodation, good food, attentive service, and a relaxing atmosphere are far more important, and unfortunately, this hotel fell short in all of those areas. I would not choose to stay here again.

What a lovely hotel! Just what was needed to unwind and relax. The rooms are lovely duplex apartments and were comfortable and clean. Cleaned daily. The pool was spotless and had the chill taken off it so it was nice to have a swim everyday. Plenty of comfortable sun loungers and always some available, occasionally towels were put out early but as the hotel was fairly quiet there wasn’t any need. You have to give 100 euro deposit for the pool towels and mini bar in the room which is returned on the last day minus what you’ve used from the mini bar. There’s a pool table and football table and some seats for relaxing undercover in the middle of the hotel. The gardens are just gorgeous and a nice touch is the bonsai trees which were all pretty amazing. We stayed bed and breakfast and found the food to be lovely, fresh omelettes cooked at request and the rest buffet style. Served 7.30-10.30. We had one night where we ate dinner there and again there was something to suit us both and lots of choice. The pool bar serves drinks and great snacks 12-3.30pm daily and in the evening there’s entertainment which the singers we heard were good. There’s a small shop next to reception for water crisps a beer fridge and general stuff you might need. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere in the evening, if you want vibe then take a trip to Puerto Rico, we had a great night there! Taxis are from a car park next to the hotel.. 5 euro to get down to melanares, where there’s some posh more upmarket restaurants than you’ll find in playa des ingles. Equally you can walk or take a free bus down there …the local buses run frequently from a stop close by. We visited Puerto de Mogán (8 euro for both of us one way) which is a stunning place!.. local buses are great for seeing the coastline but be prepared to hang on they don’t hang about!.. right on the edge of the cliffs too which was a bit scary! We would definitely return to this little oasis..
