DO NOT BOOK THIS SICKNESS BUG INFESTED HOTEL ! We had only been there 24 hrs and my partner was throwing up! He fainted by the pool area and 3 out 4 people that came across to help also had it !!!!
Stayed at The Riu Vistamar for a week at the beginning of September. The hotel is huge and not somewhere we would usually stay but thought we’d have a change and go All inclusive. The room was a little dated but had a decent view of Amadores beach. You have to be fit to climb all the steps to the pool areas there are hundreds of them!! The food was ok but the restaurant felt like a canteen. Now onto the dreaded sickness and diarrhoea virus that we came down with on day 3. This kept us confined to our room for nearly 3 days and my stomach still isn’t right now I’m home. It was horrendous and ruined our holiday. The hotel seriously needs to look at why so many people are contracting this virus at their hotel instead of ignoring the issue. I have 3 holidays a year usually to Greece and have never picked up anything like this. I didn’t particularly like Puerto Rico as a resort or Gran Canaria. On the day of leaving the hotel we handed the key cards back in at reception and they never said have you enjoyed your stay, was everything ok ? Not a word of thanks for staying with them. We won’t be back that’s for sure.
Nice hotel. Perched on a cliff edge with great views. Ask for a room with the beach view as we had the busy road side which wasn’t great at all. Like a Grand Prix.
The staff bar one incident, were lovely and helpful.
The room was modern and clean.
A/C only worked in half of the room, not at all in my son’s room. I asked several times but no one came to my knowledge to fix it and it was still not working when we left.
I had a suite so it was not great that it was not fixed as it wasn’t cheap
Food was ok and plenty of choice for veggies. Very fast at clearing away plates and giving a morning coffee pot which was nice. Food issue as my son ate a hot dog at 2am from the Sports Bar which made him lose two days of his weeks holiday he was really ill. I did mention this to reception but was dismissed with reasoning that it was the sun. The hotel has had issues with tummy bugs but I nor my other son had any problems. Lots of sanitiser xrecommended.
Two pools but quite small for the amount of people. Lots of sun beds but still folk went at 8am to secure their fave place.
Excursions from the hotel plentiful but book before you leave as they get full. The best was the aquarium but it’s a good 50 mins drive as is in the north and right across the island.
Rui party on a Fridayar a sister hotel was great fun, all included and coach transfers. Two themes ours was neon.
Yoga stretch class daily was really nice and burnt off a few calories!
My only complaint was one of the animation staff at bingo shouting out across the crowded pool area that “It would look good on you if you smiled” as I walked past him! He then followed it with more personal comments as I walked away. I was thinking of my ill son at the time so was rather put out he felt that it was perfectly ok to treat a guest in that rude manner. It was shocking. He should never speak to a guest in that way for a cheap laugh or shout out to the entire crowd for a cheap laugh. Not funny nor nice. I won’t return for that reason. Manager never called me about it or told me the outcome. Disappointed by that.
I am so disappointed. I came here a few years ago and it was amazing, this time round not so. I wanted to celebrate my birthday, which ended up me being very sick. Food was standard, sometimes not cooked thoroughly, i was very ill for the first few days amazing pharmacy up the hill i might add. I will never be returning which is sad i really did enjoy this first time round. The staff were rude not helpful at all, entertainment not updated in two years still doing the same acts. I was part of the Riu group and have now deactivated this account. I am not one for complaining this hotel and the standards have gone down so bad. Please rate this 3 star at most. I would rate 2
Booked this hotel through a TUI package. Chosen as it is a RIU Hotel, having stayed in a few now I have found the facility of a constant good standard. Although not arriving till around 2230 quickly dealt with a t reception and advised that as the Restaurant had closed at 2200 (delayed by an hour flight from BHX due to operational reasons) snacks were available in the 24hour Sports Bar. The layout of the hotel does take a little to get used to with the Reception and pools all above 7o floor and the rooms below 5o. All the rooms have sea views and have what you would expect within for a four star hotel. Meals were varied and I found to be generally hot, Restaurant staff and indeed all the bar staff were attentive and pleasant, don't really recall waiting much at all to be served. At my visit at the end of August the hotel seemed at full capacity, there is the usual dawn raids by some visitors to reserve sunbeds around the two pools, and indeed I observed many had nobody in attendance for hours. All things considered it is a Hotel I would return to, nothing I could find to fault it.
