I booked here on a whim. Last minute. Booked the Monday, travelled the Friday. After I booked I checked the reviews and was sceptical but had a great holiday. It was getting busier towards the end (trip 24th July - 3rd Aug) but we had a great time.

Ate something different for dinner each evening (the meat options); didn't bother with the speciality restaurants simply because my son wouldn't eat there. The entertainment team were fantastic, got everyone involved but weren't pushy. They were in the pool as well as out participating and had games in and out of the shade. We also played boules, table tennis and pool (the first two, just ask at reception for the equipment). 4 swimming pools to choose from, main events are in the infinity pool but if you want to just do your own thing there are other pools to choose from.

Yes some of the small pool tiles have some off and some areas look a bit more tired, but if you are polite and ask nicely (like anything in life) you are more likely to receive a positive response. I requested maintenance twice and on both times they were there the same day. We genuinely didn't come across unpleasant staff, that includes at the bar, hospitality, cleaning staff, reception, entertainment, maintenance and lifeguards.

If you want premium 5* plus it's not for you. If you like to moan about small things. It's not for you. But if you just want a family getaway and don't let the menial things bother you then it's a great venue - please and thank yous go both ways as does a bit of patience 🤩

This is our second stay at SBH Maxorata Resort. We returned because, after our first visit last year, we were assured that the hotel’s many problems would be addressed. Sadly, one year later, absolutely nothing has changed.

The entire hotel is in desperate need of a complete renovation. The rooms are outdated, worn out and poorly maintained. The air conditioning is barely working, making the rooms unbearably hot, especially during the night. Sleeping comfortably is almost impossible.

The pool areas are another major disappointment. The drains are still clogged, just as they were last year. There are clearly not enough housekeeping staff, because rubbish, dirty cups, plates and towels left behind by inconsiderate guests often remain around the pool for hours and sometimes even for days. For a hotel that markets itself as a 4-star resort, this is simply unacceptable.

The most frustrating part is that these are not new problems. We reported them during our previous stay and were promised that improvements would be made. We gave this hotel a second chance, but it feels like management has chosen not to invest in the property while continuing to charge premium prices.

The only reason this holiday wasn’t a complete disaster is because the staff are genuinely kind, friendly and hardworking. They do everything they can for the guests, but they simply cannot compensate for years of neglect and underinvestment. This is a management problem, not a staff problem.

In my personal opinion, this hotel is not worthy of its 4-star status. I am giving it just 1 star because that is honestly the experience we had. We paid far too much money for a holiday that fell well below our expectations.

If you are reading this before booking: please save your money and choose another hotel until SBH Maxorata undergoes a complete renovation. We gave this hotel a second chance because we believed the promises that things would improve. They didn’t. There will not be a third visit from us.
