3/5 stars
SBH Taro Beach is overall a good hotel. The food was tasty, plentiful, and varied. The rooms are simple but have everything you need. The location is beautiful, right on the beach, and Costa Calma is a great place to stay. The staff is generally friendly, there are a few resident cats around the property, and there is plenty to do for guests of all ages.
Unfortunately, our experience was overshadowed by a disappointing incident. During our stay, items were stolen from our room: €37.50 in cash and two gold rings. None of these items were left in plain sight, which suggests that someone actively searched for valuables.
When we reported this to the reception desk, we were very disappointed by the response. Instead of concern or surprise, we were mainly asked, “Did you close the door?” When I asked whether this kind of thing happened often, the answer was, “Not often, Spain changed.” That was essentially the end of the conversation.
That same evening, we met another couple staying at the hotel who told us that money had also disappeared from their room. This made the situation even more concerning.
I do not expect miracles when something like this happens, but I do expect a hotel to take responsibility and treat such reports seriously. The following day, I returned to reception because the situation continued to bother me. I asked the receptionist to take the matter seriously, but the lack of interest and the casual attitude made me realize that pursuing it further would likely be pointless.
My advice to future guests: do not leave any valuables in your room. Rent a safe or leave valuable items at home.
Overall, we had a good holiday and the hotel certainly has many positive aspects. However, the way this situation was handled was extremely disappointing and left a negative impression on an otherwise enjoyable stay.
First of all, I honestly don’t understand why this hotel has so many negative reviews.
From the moment we arrived, we had a really positive experience.
The reception staff were incredibly helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble. They even upgraded our family’s room after we asked if we could stay closer to our relatives, which we really appreciated.
The rooms are spacious and many have beautiful sea views.
One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is its direct access to the beach. Being able to walk straight from the hotel onto the beach within seconds was something we absolutely loved. The beach itself is beautiful and was definitely one of our favourite parts of the holiday.
Cleanliness: this is probably the only small negative point. During our 14 night stay, our room wasn’t cleaned on four occasions. However, our family’s room was cleaned every day, so I think we were just unlucky. It wasn’t a huge issue for us, although with children there’s always sand everywhere, so having a broom in the room would have been really helpful. The rooms could definitely do with some refurbishment, but considering how many rooms the hotel has, that would be a massive investment.
Food: absolutely delicious. There was always plenty of choice and everyone in our family found something they enjoyed. We’re a family of four with two children who have completely different tastes, and one of them is a very picky eater, yet she always found something to eat.
As in many Spanish hotels, tea and coffee aren’t included during lunch and dinner. It would be lovely if coffee and tea were available with lunch as well, but it wasn’t a big issue because you can always go to the snack bar afterwards for a coffee.
We also used the snack bar a few times when we missed lunch, and everything there was great too. I actually liked that they served simple, familiar food that everyone enjoys.
The restaurant staff and waiters were absolutely wonderful. Always smiling, friendly and very helpful.
The bar deserves a special mention. The bartenders were fantastic, especially two of them, whose sense of humour made every evening even more enjoyable.
The only suggestion I’d make concerns the paid drinks after 11 pm. The signed drink receipts should also be available at reception and included with the final bill at check out. We witnessed guests being charged for drinks they believed they hadn’t ordered (ot is hard to say who was right) so I think this system could be improved to avoid any confusion.
We only used the swimming pool once because, unfortunately, there were too many people smoking around the pool area. I understand that smoking rules in Spain are different, but it did make it less enjoyable for us.
Another thing we noticed was the sunbed reservation problem. People were reserving loungers very early in the morning and then not returning for another two or three hours. In my opinion, the hotel should enforce its “no reserving sunbeds” policy. Towels left unattended for a long time could be removed and collected from the lifeguard. We’ve seen this system in other hotels and it works really well.
The same applies to the non smoking areas around the restaurant terrace and snack bar. Although they exist, many guests simply ignore them and smoke there anyway. It would be great if the hotel enforced these areas more consistently.
Overall, we had a wonderful holiday. The location is fantastic, the direct beach access is amazing, the staff are exceptional and the food exceeded our expectations. We would happily return and would like to thank everyone who helped make our stay so enjoyable.
The hotel itself is not perfect and there is definitely room for improvement. However, I left Fuerteventura with something far more valuable than memories of the hotel. This island has a unique kind of magic. The ocean, the beaches, the wind, the night sky and the moonlight reflecting on the water create a sense of peace that stays with you long after you return home. What made the biggest difference, though, were the people working at the hotel. They were genuinely kind, welcoming, helpful and always ready to share a smile. They made us feel truly welcome. Sometimes a small gesture or a few kind words mean more than luxury or perfect facilities. Thank you to everyone whose warmth and kindness made this holiday so special. I came home with beautiful memories, a sense of peace, and something much more valuable – a reminder of the joy that life can still bring.
Terrible handling of guests and zero accountability! My experience with this hotel was completely unacceptable. After arriving exhausted from a long journey, we were told at the front desk that our room was not available and that we had to be relocated to another hotel. To make things worse, we were informed that there was no manager on-site to help resolve the issue or provide any assistance. Leaving guests stranded without a room and with no management present to handle the situation shows a shocking lack of professionalism and basic customer care. Having a confirmed booking should mean something. Instead, we were left stressed and forced to move with our luggage because of their overbooking or administrative failure. I would strongly advise anyone against booking this hotel if you expect a reliable and stress-free stay. George
The hotel has stop at the RFN/NRD era. It felt like back in time, old-looking, falling lightly apart, with holes and cracks here and there, some pretty serious. Our apartment was an open plan living area that played kids bedroom too, bedroom with wardrobes and a window that was impossible to open to the certain point - it was either open wide or none, and a bathroom pretty decent size. Air conditioning - it was there, but like AI- not real and none existent. The fan in the bedroom and living area was working and barely giving any air. On our last day, when we were moving sofas kids were sleeping on to find our things to pack up we found out there was a massive cockroach staying with us and probably wanting to say goodbye and accommodated itself under the table in the living room. It was the biggest cockroach I've ever seen, and so far I've seen none. You can see photos attached and look for our extra hotel guest that we didn't pay for. The hotel doesn't offer much, but it's location is the only advantage as the hotel has its own access to a beautiful beach, seaside with a coast guards aside. The hotel has its own pool, 1.50m deep in the deepest point and a small with 40cm depth. The morning run to "book" the sunbeds in front of the hotel by the pool happens from 5-6am, while the hotel instruct everyone not to do it, no one listens. The kitchen doesn't serve anything super healthy and Spanish -origin except pour quality paella and dried out churros, the rest of served food was continental and concentrated on German clientele, unhealthy and heavy to digest. Cakes were repetitive and not interesting, only fruits look kind of a healthy option, but not always. All items served, at least 90% were made somewhere else, and definitely not prepared in the hotel. The juice machine was empty very quick, coffee machine broke down on 2 occasions. The hotel offers another bar and lunch hall, that rarely had any food served and if they served there were things left over from lunch served in the main dinning hall. The seaside bar is non existent, there is no kids club at all, no attractions for kids, nothing - we choose this hotel based on this info and it was bad choice. The evening entertainment team was doing their best as they could and if not for the open evening bar it probably wouldn't be interesting. The deposit for a save (€20 a stay) and for beach/pool towel (€10 each) is refundable. The internet access is only in the hotel premises, but the best is in the reception hall and is free. Massive credit to all hotel employees - reception team, cleaning lady , kitchen staff and bartenders, and also entertainment team - those people were amazing doing their best in not attractive place making our stay as great as possible. The car hire company with very good deals is just by the side of the hotel. In general, the hotel is not suitable for families with children as there's not much to do for children, except pool and sea swimming. Overall I rate this hotel as 3/5 and more likely we won't ever be back there.
