Overall, we had a good 21-night holiday, but unfortunately we won’t be returning for a third visit.
If you read my previous review from last year, you’ll see how highly we originally rated this hotel. Sadly, this year the cleanliness really let it down.
We only saw the pool area being hosed down twice during our stay, and it certainly didn’t look like it was actually being cleaned. On one occasion, we watched a pool cleaner fill his mop bucket directly from the swimming pool and then use that water to mop the walkways. We also saw a maid clean a balcony floor and then use the same mop on the Balinese bed. It’s no surprise, therefore, that the floor in our room was constantly dusty and dirty.
The restaurant staff, however, were fantastic. They work incredibly hard to keep everyone happy, and Yoliber, the Maitre d’, runs the restaurant like clockwork. Aaron, Carla, Marta, Rebecca and Vanessa also deserve a special mention for their hard work. The food was generally nice, although after 21 nights the evening menu became repetitive, with some dishes being fairly average.
One of the main reasons we returned was the peaceful atmosphere we enjoyed last October. Unfortunately, our final three days were completely different. Due to a problem at H10 Ocean Suites across the road, a number of their guests were moved over to Ocean Dreams. The normally quiet pool area suddenly became overcrowded, noisy and chaotic.
Extra sunbeds were brought in, walkways became blocked and several guests, including ourselves, eventually left the pool area to escape the noise and lack of space. When we complained at reception, we were simply told that nothing could be done other than an apology.
It was particularly disappointing because there is a genuinely good hotel here. The reception and bar areas are beautiful, the restaurant is good and many of the staff are excellent. But the poor cleaning standards in the rooms and around the pool, combined with the overcrowding at the end of our stay, have unfortunately outweighed the positives for us.
It’s a real shame, because with better attention to cleanliness and a few small improvements, H10 Ocean Dreams could be a great hotel. Sadly, after this visit, we won’t be returning — and the experience has also put us off the H10 chain.
Just back from a great week in Ocean Dreams - one of the best hotels I've stayed in.
Rooms are large and spotless - cleaned daily. Great selection for breakfast and dinner. Loved that the restaurant never got too crowded, no queuing for food.
Pool area was lovely - although most beds were reserved by 9am there always seemed to be some available.
Location is great - few minutes to the main strip, with shops, restaurants and bars - only a few minutes to the beach.
Staff were all lovely, all friendly and helpful.
Will definitely be back!
Sun beds are all covered with towels at 8.30 each morning. An excuse given was the pool in the sister hotel across the road was closed. Their pool has been open for the last 2 days and the situation has not changed. If you like to relax and sunbath this is not a great hotel for you. The other amenities in the hotel are very good but it’s a pity it fails on sunbathing when we have all come to Fuerteventura for the sun.
Well what can I say first of all our first impressions was very good. The rooms we had no problems at all cleaner in every day. Towels changed whenever you wanted. Towards the end of are holiday we noticed how dirty it was around the pool area and paths. We was talking to another guest and she said she had seen the pool man put his mop bucket in the pool to get the water to clean at front of pool. Never saw any cleaners mopping it as there were marks all over and coffee stains that were left there. The dust near the wall stayed there not even swept. For a 4 star hotel this should not happen but the day we was coming home it had been cleaned it looked like the swimming pool water had just been thrown on it was wet though which is a health and safety issue. Then about 4 days before our return home H10 across the road had issues with there swimming pool and was allowed to use ours that lead to over crossing around the pool they brought in extra sunbeds and guests over the road was reserving sunbeds the night before they went back over to their own hotel. Then if you left your sunbed we went for a drink at bar and when we got back we had note on bed saying they where going to remove our towels if we din't return within 90mins. Dont think this place is on my list for a return visit. The manager wasn't friendly at all not even a god morning. No personal though that you get with a family run hotel
Loved the hotel, one the best we have ever stopped at. We will definitely come back in the future. Rooms big and spacious, clean and tidy. Never an issue with sunbeds, being adult only gave us a relaxing week. The location is ideal being just out of the main town but easy walking distance, just look for burger king and turn right.
