Corralejo

Set at approximately 200 metres from Dunas de Corralejo Park, the idyllic location of this complex offers lots of desert landscapes and dunes, as well as white sandy beaches and turquoise water. Guests will be at only 3km from the centre of Corralejo, where in the Old quarter they can find the remains of a typical fishing village, with numerous restaurants serving freshly caught specialities. Those looking for bars and shopping opportunities can find them in the newer parts of the city. The complex itself also houses an excellent restaurant offering a wide range of dishes and boasting an extensive wine list. Each of the white-washed villas has a stylish décor with high archways, soft lighting and opens to a large poolside terrace. Guests can refresh in the private pools or treat themselves with a visit to the spa and enjoy the Finnish and Turkish sauna and the rain-effect showers.

Extremely disappointing

We were put in Villa 1-2 and it was far from the luxurious standard advertised. To make matters worse, halfway through our stay, our pool turned green and murky and was out of use for 2 days. The hot tub was also out of use as the pump was broken. I could write a lengthy review, but I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves.

I will say this though - don’t expect any meaningful recompense if things go wrong - we were repeatedly told that they ‘don’t give refunds’. Don’t expect any contact with the general manager - she passes messages through the reception staff, taking no interest in resolving complaints adequately. Instead, we were offered ridiculous gestures of goodwill which we refused, their final ‘offer’ being to wipe our bar tab (just over €100 when they suggested this) and a free night ‘when we return next year’. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thankfully, we had booked using our credit card and were able to make a claim through them. We found out today that we are getting a refund of 20% of our overall bill (€660). This is just shy of the €700 partial refund that we suggested was reasonable when we emailed a formal complaint to Bahiazul during our stay.

I hope they are sorry now. If they had treated us fairly, then I wouldn’t be posting this review, and I also wouldn’t have filled in the ‘Hoja de Reclamacions’ (the official Spanish complaints form) which we ensured was registered at the Municipal Office before we left the island. We appreciate that things can go wrong, but the mark of a reputable company is how they deal with reasonable customers who express legitimate dissatisfaction.

Please consider our photos before booking this accommodation. We worked hard all year to pay for this holiday.

Bahiazul - A Mixed Review

Review of Bahíazul Villas & Club We recently spent two weeks at Bahíazul as a family of four, comprising two adults and two children aged 13 and 10. We stayed in a Premier Two-Bedroom Garden Villa with a private pool. Whilst there were several positive aspects to our stay, there were also some significant issues that impacted our overall experience.

Positives The resort is situated in a peaceful and quiet area, making it ideal for those looking to relax and unwind. Within walking distance there are a couple of supermarkets and restaurants, providing convenient access to essentials and dining options. For those seeking a livelier atmosphere, the town centre is only a short taxi ride away (approximately €7), where there is a wide selection of bars, restaurants, shops, and entertainment. From the town centre, it is also a pleasant short walk to the harbour, where a variety of water-based excursions and activities can be booked. The location strikes a good balance between tranquillity and accessibility. The accommodation itself was very spacious and well-suited to a family holiday. The villa featured two double bedrooms, a separate living area, kitchen facilities, and multiple indoor and outdoor dining and seating areas, providing plenty of room to relax, and a small outdoor pool. The breakfast offering was varied, with a good selection of options available each morning. Guests should be aware that certain items incur an additional charge, such as freshly squeezed orange juice (€3.50). The hotel's commitment to environmental sustainability was also appreciated. Recycling facilities are available for glass, paper, plastic, and general waste. However, the villas only contain a single internal waste bin, which makes separating recyclable materials somewhat inconvenient. The sports bar was another highlight. It was clean, well-maintained, fully air-conditioned, and provided a pleasant environment to watch sporting events, although there is only a single television screen. For families with children, the pool table provided an additional source of entertainment. It is worth noting that it only accepts €1 coins. The security team were consistently friendly, professional, and willing to help whenever required.

Areas for Improvement Unfortunately, the most significant issue we encountered was the presence of cockroaches. During our stay, we found cockroaches both inside and outside the villa on multiple occasions. There were instances where we had to remove cockroaches from the accommodation ourselves, prevent them entering the accommodation from the pool area, and even remove a dead cockroach from the pool. Whilst these concerns were reported to reception, the response lacked urgency, resulting in us purchasing our own insect spray to manage the problem. The villas are also beginning to show signs of age and would benefit from refurbishment. The dishwasher was not functioning upon arrival. Whilst maintenance initially resolved the issue, the fault reoccurred shortly afterwards. We also found the air-conditioning controls difficult to operate, particularly as visitors from a country where air conditioning is not commonly used. A simple user guide within the villa would greatly improve the guest experience. Cleanliness was another area of concern. Although cleaning is provided every four days, the standard did not meet our expectations. Floors appeared dirty throughout the stay and seemed to receive only a superficial clean. Given the dusty and windy conditions that can occur in the area, more frequent and thorough cleaning would be beneficial. The condition of the private pool upon arrival was also disappointing. The pool water appeared dirty, and there was a build-up of grime around the sides. After raising this with management, the pool was cleaned and the visible dirt was scrubbed away. However, the water remained noticeably murky for the remainder of the day, limiting our ability to fully enjoy the facility. Whilst management apologised for the issue, there did not appear to be any proactive measures taken to prevent similar problems from recurring during our stay. Given that the private pool is a key feature of the villa experience, a higher standard of maintenance and quality control would be expected. Customer service was perhaps the most disappointing aspect of our experience. We raised a number of concerns during our stay and generally found responses to be apologetic but lacking in meaningful action or resolution. On one occasion, when I requested to speak with a manager regarding our concerns, I was simply advised to send an email. This response did not reflect the level of service one would expect from a four-star establishment. Finally, whilst management offered to cover the cost of a barbecue experience (approximately €80) as a gesture of goodwill, this offer was conditional on signing an agreement restricting us from making negative comments about the hotel. We declined this proposal. No alternative goodwill gesture was subsequently offered despite the various issues encountered during our stay.

Overall Bahíazul offers spacious accommodation, a good breakfast selection, excellent security staff, and family-friendly facilities. However, the recurring pest issues, ageing accommodation, cleanliness concerns, and disappointing handling of customer complaints significantly detracted from our holiday experience. Whilst there are elements of the resort that have considerable potential, improvements in maintenance, cleanliness, pest control, and customer service would be required before we would consider returning.

Disappointing stay – villa badly in need of refurbishment and serious issues with cleanliness

We recently stayed at Bahiazul Resort Fuerteventura in a two-bedroom villa with a private pool. Unfortunately, despite the villa being very spacious and having a lot of potential, our overall experience was extremely disappointing.

On arrival, the private pool was dirty. The villa itself was roomy, but extremely dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. There were cracked floor tiles, flaking paint, rusty fixtures, broken/damaged woodwork and appliances that did not work correctly.

The air conditioning was also very frustrating. It seemed impossible to get a comfortable temperature – the villa was either too warm or freezing cold. There were no instructions provided in the villa explaining how to operate the air conditioning system, and we had to call the maintenance team out twice to assist us with it.

Unfortunately, we also had unwanted visitors in the form of cockroaches, both inside the villa and even in the swimming pool. We raised our concerns with reception but found them very unhelpful. Rather than dealing with the issues, we were simply asked to email our complaint in, which we declined to do as we were standing at reception and wanted the problems addressed during our stay. We ended up purchasing our own cockroach spray so that we had something to hand when further cockroaches appeared – which, unfortunately, they did.

The cleanliness of the villa generally was also very poor. The villa is only cleaned once every four days and, in our experience, this was little more than a surface clean. My children put on brand-new white socks and within an hour they were absolutely filthy. The bottoms of our feet were equally dirty if we walked around without socks.

Upstairs, the large sunbed/daybed with the white covering was badly stained. If you placed a damp towel on it, the towel would actually pick up a yellow/brown colour from the covering. The upstairs jacuzzi also gave off a horrible chemical smell when used and simply did not feel clean.

By far the most disappointing aspect was the private pool, particularly as this was one of the main reasons we chose a villa with a pool. Although it looked lovely immediately after being cleaned, within a day the water and surfaces felt slimy – similar to a children’s paddling pool that has been left for several days. My boys got to the point where they did not want to use it. Any inflatables left in the pool came out with a green tinge, and one of my children’s pairs of shorts has been completely ruined by green staining from the pool. For accommodation marketed with a private pool, this really was not acceptable.

There is a barbecue area on the roof, which looks great, but you have to pay €22 for the grills in order to actually use it.

There is also a pool table available near reception. You can change money at reception as the table only accepts €1 coins, and it costs €2 per game. Unfortunately, the table itself is on a slant, which rather ruins the game!

We also booked the Friday night barbecue. The food was okay, although there was not a great deal that was particularly child-friendly. More concerning was the number of flies all over the uncovered salad and bread – and probably the meat too, although we could not see that as it was behind the barbecue. We felt the food hygiene standard here was very poor.

The customer service was another disappointment. The staff themselves were pleasant, but whenever we raised an issue, nobody seemed particularly interested in actually resolving it. For a resort of this supposed standard, we expected a much higher level of accommodation and customer service.

One positive mention must go to the security staff, who were absolutely lovely. They were always friendly and welcoming and we genuinely enjoyed stopping and having a chat with them.

Overall, the villas have the potential to be fantastic. They are spacious, the private pool concept is great and the rooftop area could be lovely. However, they desperately need refurbishment, much more thorough and frequent cleaning, significantly better pool maintenance and a much more proactive approach when guests raise concerns.

For the price and the standard Bahiazul presents itself as offering, we expected considerably better. Sadly, based on our experience, we would not return.

TripAdvisor Review
Recommend you book it.

We stayed in the Royal Three Bedroom Villa with Private Heated Pool - Bed and Breakfast in early August. We were very pleased with our stay.

We arrived quite late, so the details and villa keys were left with reception. I cant remember the security guards name, but he was brilliant. After a long journey with 3 kids, he took the bags, onto a buggy drove us all down the the villa with the bags (kids loved that part). Showed us the room, how to use everything, explained where the 2 local shops were. Pass on our thanks (he calls the boys del boy, if that helps work out who it is :) )

We went to reception to check in the next day, very helpful, friendly speak english really well. It was a chaps first week I think he was very good, i wouldnt of known it was his first week. He couldn’t be more helpful.

Went to reception a few more times over the stay, everyone was very helpful and they helped with a late checkout for a small extra charge.

The BBQ grills were all includes in our villa. The BBQ on the room was really good.

Breakfast was great.

The villa was very spacious and workes well for our setup. Its traditional spanish feel, which I like on holiday. Its a spanish island afterall. Its exactly what I would expect a spanish villa to be like, it was very clean and the cleaners came every 2 days along with the pool. All cleaning staff including pool staff very friendly.

Resort very nice, 2x supermarkets close. Nice italian place just past the supermarkets and a pizza takeaway place just before the supermarkets. Quite area.

My only small complaint is the hot tub was luke warm. I like my hot tubs hot. Like 40c and couldnt see any option to turn it up. Other than that, dont even think about it, just book it.

TripAdvisor Review
A Fantastic Family Holiday!

Fantastic family holiday at the Bahiazul resort! We stayed in villa 11-3 and it was amazing!

Our sons' shared a bedroom and their room interconnected with ours, which was ideal, as they would've had to access it via the pool area otherwise. Our daughter is 18 and she had a double bedroom to herself, which she loved. There seemed to be a lack of coat hangers in the wardrobes, but the storage space itself was perfect. Each bedroom had its own ensuite, which was very convenient. The bathrooms were a bit tired and could do with updating, but they were clean and functional. My husband commented that there wasn't a plug in the bathroom sink and so he had to use a bowl that he found in the kitchen when he wanted a shave.

The living/dining and kitchen areas were super. It looked as though the kitchen had recently been refurbished as the appliances in the kitchen appeared to be almost brand new. We stayed half board but the kitchen had everything you could possibly want if you were self catering. Our children certainly made themselves at home on the comfy sofas and it was lovely to see them looking so relaxed and at home.

We had a utility room off the main living space, which had quite a new LG washing machine, ironing board, iron and sink in it. The washing machine was a godsend as we used it every day and didn't have the dreaded mountain of washing and drying to do when we returned home today! It made a huge difference to us, especially being a family of 5! There were two clothes airers, one downstairs and one on the roof terrace. We managed to fit all of our washing on it every day.

The pool was great and we definitely had our use out of it! We didn't pay the extra to have it heated and are glad we didn't because it was a perfect temperature anyway. The heat from the sun kept the pool warm all day, without it feeling too intense. We only used the hot tub a couple of times as it really was too hot for us, even when it hadn't been heated beforehand.

The area around the pool was well set out, with sun loungers, easy chairs and a table and chairs. More furniture was provided on the very spacious roof terrace, which spanned the length of the villa. We could see the sea in the distance from the roof terrace - it was a lovely view!

We stayed for 9 nights and our villa was cleaned twice during our stay, which included the pool. We were very satisfied with the standard of cleaning and couldn't fault it.

The breakfast selection in the restaurant was excellent - we really were spoilt for choice! There were different themes each night in the restaurant, such as Italian and Mexican. There were also pizzas and hotdogs/burgers every night. The cake selection was fabulous too! The staff were always very pleasant and the maitre d' who greeted us each evening really stood out for us. He was just a really genuinely nice man and made us feel so welcome. He brought a smile to our faces every evening 😊.

The security staff were friendly and changed our pool towels whenever we asked them to.

The reception staff were polite and friendly and when we reported some missing balls on the pool table, they sorted the issue out and the balls were replaced the same day.

Lidl and another supermarket were only a five minute walk away - ideal for stocking up on essentials. The pathway to Lidl wasn't great and could do with upgrading. This was nothing to do with the Bahiazul resort though as the resort itself was exceptionally well maintained. Even whilst we were there, we could see the pathways were being painted and refreshed.

The beach is about a 45-50 minute walk away from the resort. We walked into town and to the beach a couple of times and got a taxi back for about 7 euros. There is a big shopping complex in Corralejo and the beaches are beautiful, particularly Grandes Playas. There's a wide variety of bars and restaurants to choose from, both on the beach and in the town.

All in all, we had a fantastic time at the Bahiazul resort and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of busy hotels. If you like to be entertained day and night, this perhaps isn't the place for you but if you want rest and relaxation, it's just perfect!
