We booked this hotel largely because of its strong TripAdvisor rating (close to 5 stars) and its Marriott Bonvoy affiliation, expecting a standard of service and quality in line with the Marriott/Sheraton brand. Unfortunately, at an average rate of £450 per night, our stay fell well short — closer to a solid 3-star experience overall. Food (half board): The food was consistently underwhelming — bland, under-seasoned, and repetitive across the stay, with little variety and no themed or specialty dining nights to break up the menu. Restaurant service: Staff in the restaurant were inattentive and service felt disorganized, which was disappointing given the price point. Half board inclusions: Water was not included with dinner under the half board package, which felt like a poor omission at this price tier. Room quality: The pillows were clearly past their usable life — flat and unsupportive, leaving us with stiff necks and shoulders each morning. We also found staining on the bed sheets and bathrobe in our room, which raised cleanliness concerns. Grounds and facilities: The landscaping around the hotel and pool areas felt tired and under-maintained, and the property overall lacked modernization compared to what we’d expect from a Sheraton. The one genuine highlight was the beach directly behind the hotel, which is beautiful and the main reason we’d hesitate to rate this any lower. Given the gap between the advertised rating/brand and our actual experience, we’d encourage other travelers to look closely at recent reviews and not rely solely on the overall star rating before booking — especially at this price point.
Pools are lovely. WiFi and aircon are struggling badly. The buffet is a mixed bag on any given day. The private restaurants are good. The hotel itself is badly outdated and they are throwing furniture into skips on a daily basis whilst we are here, usually at 8 am so you don’t need an alarm clock. Reception staff are disappointing and lacking care. Housekeeping is hit and miss. Hotel interior is dated and is most areas tatty and unkempt. Hotel shop is full of hideous offerings. Overpriced for the general state and quality of service.
Holiday 27th July to 3rd August - family of 4, 2 adults and 2 girls (7 and 3).
We had booked Elba Sara close by but on arrival got moved to the Sheraton due to ‘issues with our room’. Looking at recent reviews this was a lucky escape!
On arrival we were greeted with a cold glass of cava and checked in swiftly. We did however have to put down a €585 holding deposit PER ROOM (we travelled with friends), something I’ve not had to do for a while and found confusing.
We were given room 452 which had a beautiful sea view that over looked the pools. A small balcony; which didn’t get much sun but was fine.
Room had a mini fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, a bath and separate shower. Plenty big enough for us as a 4 with 2 separate single beds made up for the kids. The main bed was. Little soft for my liking but fine. AC could do with a service - it kept the room as a constant comfortable temperature but was not cold.
The safe in the room is free to use. There is also a tv which didn’t have any channels we could get, not that we go on holiday to watch tv, but might be worth upgrading these!
On paper Sheraton is a slightly better hotel, than Elba Sara (booked) there are 3 main outdoor pools (with 2 separate; jacuzzi and games pool) so 5 and 1 indoor pool that we did not visit.
The children’s splash pool is heated and is one of the others, with the main/biggest pool cooler. All kept our children entertained all day.
Pool towels are provided at no cost. And we always managed to get a set of subbed, even when coming down at 10am. Please note that the pools don’t officially open until 10am although people tend to start using them from 9/9:30am.
The rooms and all general areas were clean and comfortable. Maids visited everyday but did only change bedding every other day.
Location is fantastic, close to a shopping centre which has a large Spar Shop, a number of bars and restaurants along with other shops etc. the main town is around a 20 min walk or a circa €4 euro taxi ride. There is a shuttle bus from the hotel, which we saw but didn’t use. Hotel booked us taxis when we went out.
The beach is lovely and directly outside the hotel, be warned that the sun beds do not belong to the hotel and are ran separately. These cost €4 each and additional €4 for an umbrella.
We were on half board and found the food to be very good with plenty of choice for the 7 days we were there. Any long we may have got bored of it! Each evening there is a different theme and the standard was good. Breakfast had plenty of options too. Drinks are included with breakfast but not for dinner - these are charged to your room (hence the deposit on arrival).
Our children didn’t attend the kids club, but we did attend mini disco every night - this was inside the Tenerife function room, it was very Very Basic, but the kids enjoyed it. It was 8pm until 8:45 each evening, the main entertainment followed shortly after.
Overall we had a great holiday and the hotel was fine. I wouldn’t return personally but hard to find too many faults if you can get the right deal. Probably better for slightly older children or adults.
One final note on the staff, who were all very attentive and friendly from the moment we arrived.
As loyal return customers for many years we are sorry to witness the recent decline of this establishment, as renovation has been overdue for about 2 to 3 years already (why the opportunity during Corona wasn‘t used is beyond us). What kept us returning (despite broken room fridges, dysfunctional air conditioning and failing WLAN) was the superior world class service of the staff. But when prices were recently hiked (on top of aging furniture & equipment) we cancelled our latest reservation and now hope for a new beginning past & beyond the impending renovation. Until then, thank you & all the best to the entire staff!
We went as Family of 4 from 19th July until 2nd August. It was my husband and two daughters 26 and 15 yrs old and myself. We had a fantastic holiday. We arrived in evening after hour delay and was greeted by cava and orange juice .David at reception set the tone of total friendliness from all the staff during our holiday . We were given an upgrade and our case were taken to our 2 rooms . We were half board and went in to lovely buffet meal . Our rooms were very large and our balcony was massive with table chairs and sunbeds on communal balcony. So large that children were sometimes playing football in early evenings .But also very quiet . We had amazing pool and sea view . We had many early evening sitting comfortable there . Our daughters were in room next door that was perfect. Our bed in room was so large 3 people could have slept in it . The bathroom had bath and shower and twin sinks and separate toilet. There was good waldrobe space , free safe , a small fridge. Our one didn’t get as cold as our daughters but we just asked for ice from bar for our drinks on balcony early evening also for our water around pool .The hotel had many pools . One large one that was very cold and salt water . Was lovely to plunge into on hot days . The others were heated . There was many activities run by pool during the day run by Aaron who was so fantastic with everyone and encouraging to get you involved and always helpful. From water polo , foam parties , inflatables , even a white party in evening with DJ and entertainment. There was no morning rush for sunbeds . There was always beds available. This was such a plus for us and made the whole holiday experience very relaxing . There was always sunbed ,towels available too . The absolutely best selling point of hotel was being on beach . Being so near to beach and easy accessibility was brilliant . We all swam in sea every day . The beach was golden sand and crystal clear water . The ascetics of hotel were beautiful with water fall , plants and gardens. The food was amazing. Breakfast so much choice . In the evenings they had themed evenings eg Mexican , Arabica, Spanish , Italian, French, barbecue etc . My daughter is vegetarian and always found something she liked . So much choice. . The real stars of hotel are staff who are totally amazing . Everyone friendly and extremely helpful . A special call out to Samual , Mateus , Antonio , Rachid in restaurant and bar . Also Tom who greeted us every meal and Oneal who seemed to manage restaurant smoothly . Michaela made our daughter’s birthday very special. She arrange for something in room and at evening meal with cake, candles and ice bucket . Just overwhelming and amazing for her . Also reception staff so friendly booking taxis etc . There was evening entertainment each evening, some really good , rock guitarist , Chelsea a singer . Other not to our taste . Could do with tribute band . We didn’t go into kids entertainment with magicians, juggling etc but looked packed with kids . Maybe entertainment could be by pool in evening sometimes? The white party was a good place to have to mix it up a bit . Just a thought . The hotel was spotlessly clean . Housekeeping cleaned our room every day and changed our bedding every day . Sometimes housekeeping was hit and miss and didn’t have bath towels but a quick mention to receptionist and they were sent straight away . Sometimes restaurant very busy with cues at stations, but we found sitting outside was the most relaxing dining experience . We also visit spa . Just amazing with freeze plunge pool , sauna , steam room , heated loungers , jets and indoor pool . Fantastic treatments . Was very much worth a visit . It was only 4 euro to get taxi to town . Or 25 min walk . There was handy supermarket in one direction just 5 mins . Then other direction the harbour with loads of activities to book eg kayaking , paddle boarding, swimming with sea lions etc . We loved going to piers music bar next to Irish pub for lively live music evening . We throughly enjoyed our holiday we made many friends as everyone so friendly . This must be down to good management to set this culture. Thank you to everyone for helping to make holiday relaxing experiences. Looking forward to seeing hotel after refurbishing.
