Club Caleta Dorada

We’ve just returned from a family holiday at BLUESEA Club Caleta Dorada and, honestly, we had a very good experience overall.

I wanted to write an honest review because we nearly changed our holiday after reading some of the horror stories online, and I’m really glad we didn’t. Some of the reviews made the place sound far worse than what we actually experienced.

The rooms are probably the biggest area that could be improved. They were clean and were cleaned every other day, usually around 9:30am, which was absolutely fine for us. However, the rooms are starting to look a little dated and I think the doors and windows could do with being upgraded. The beds were standard — we could sleep on them without a problem, but they weren’t particularly comfortable if you wanted to relax on them for a long period.

The cleanliness throughout the resort was very good. We found the public areas, pools and restaurant to be clean and well looked after.

The food was good, although it was quite repetitive. To be fair, this is an all-inclusive holiday and some repetition is to be expected, but I do think there could be more options aimed at British children. A lot of the salad and food choices are probably more suited to what Spanish children are used to, whereas younger British children can be a little more limited in what they will eat.

The drinks were probably another area where the choice could be better. The cocktails were basically two cocktails of the day, and San Miguel was the lager option, although the soft drinks were branded, which was a positive.

The majority of the staff were absolutely brilliant — friendly, helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. The only exception for us was some of the cooks in the restaurant. On a few occasions, we felt they were quite arrogant and would expect you to move out of the way even when they were carrying extremely hot food, which didn’t always feel particularly safe. We also felt that Spanish guests sometimes seemed to receive priority over English guests in the restaurant, although obviously that was our personal experience and may not be the case for everyone.

One thing I would mention is that there isn’t really much daytime entertainment. If daytime activities are important to you, this may be something to consider when choosing the hotel.

Noise-wise, we had no problems whatsoever. We were staying in Block A and the only noise we really noticed was people walking past after being at the pub up the road. It was nothing extreme and it certainly didn’t wake our children.

The pool areas were good, although there was some confusion over inflatables. We were told afterwards that certain types of lilos weren’t allowed, despite seeing other guests using larger ones. I think the rules around what can and can’t be used in the pools should be made much clearer from the start.

Our biggest positive, though, is simply that the hotel wasn’t anything like some of the negative reviews had made us believe. We genuinely considered changing our holiday because of what we’d read, and thankfully we didn’t. We had a great time as a family, the staff were mostly fantastic, the resort was clean and we made some really good memories.

Would we return? Yes, I would. I’d just personally choose Corralejo next time, purely because I prefer the area — there is absolutely nothing wrong with Caleta de Fuste itself, it’s just personal preference.

Overall, I’d describe BLUESEA Club Caleta Dorada as a very good, good-value family holiday. It isn’t perfect and the rooms could definitely benefit from some investment, but I would say to anyone reading the really bad reviews: don’t automatically believe them. Go with an open mind, because our experience was much better than we expected.

For an 3* all inclusive this is one of the best we have had. Lovely bungalows and very modern (we had 2 for 2 adults and 2 teenagers next door) one did have some ants which was quickly resolved when we informed reception. Food was excellent for a 3* all very fresh and lots of choice with a bbq one night. We did eat out local a few times which was cheap and good. Pools were lovely we stayed in block A and only downside was no pool bar. Main pool C could always get beds, only downside was no umbrellas for shade. Pool bar B staff were very nice! Staff all very friendly and welcoming especially in the restaurant. Location is good, about a ten minute Entertainment ok but we did head out a few nights. Drinks were in plastic cups for €1 deposit and same as any all inclusive! Overall for a 3* hotel this was excellent value for money and we had a great time!
