Extremely disappointing stay
What an appalling experience at the Hard Rock Hotel Marbella.
We arrived 43 hours late and had been promised an upgrade by TUI, who had contacted the hotel by email beforehand. However, on arrival, the receptionist was less than helpful and simply told us there was nothing on her screen and nothing noted, so we would just have to accept whatever room we were given. Not exactly the welcome you expect from a hotel of this standard.
The rooms were tiny, with dirty bedding and floors that clearly had not been cleaned properly. We had an incident where a cleaner went off leaving our door ajar. We went back to reception to raise our concerns and were told that a note would be made hardly a solution.
We also asked if the minibar could be emptied so that we could use it for our own drinks. We were told this would cost €15, so we ended up emptying it ourselves. Charging guests for the privilege of using an empty minibar is ridiculous.
The pool area was another major disappointment. There were loose mosaic tiles throughout the pool, which felt dangerous and certainly did not make us feel comfortable using it. And relaxing by the pool? Forget it. There is a DJs at one pool areas, and music playing at the top bar, seemingly competing with each other to see who can play the loudest. Instead of relaxing, you are subjected to a constant battle of competing music. Thankfully, the beach is within walking distance.
On our first evening in the bar, we witnessed a brawl involving police and a group of drunken guests. During the remainder of our stay, we also noticed a constant stream of women appearing to be sex workers in the bar, with staff seemingly very familiar with them. It certainly was not the atmosphere we expected from a hotel marketed as a luxury resort.
The one major positive was the food. It was genuinely amazing and probably the only thing that kept us going during the stay.
Overall, this hotel fell a long way short of what we expected. Poor room cleanliness, unhelpful reception staff, disappointing facilities and an atmosphere that was anything but relaxing. For the price and the reputation of the Hard Rock brand, we expected considerably better.
The food was excellent. Unfortunately, almost everything else about our experience was a massive disappointment.

Unfortunately, our stay at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella did not live up to the level of service or quality we expected from the Hard Rock brand.
One particularly frustrating example was when we asked to borrow a pair of scissors for literally five minutes. The staff had scissors available but still refused to let us use them. We weren’t asking to take them away — simply to use them briefly and return them immediately. It was such a small and reasonable request, yet there seemed to be absolutely no willingness to help.
After check-out, we only wanted to sit in the lobby for a short while to charge our phones before leaving. We were not asking for a late check-out, extra room time, or access to special facilities. Even this simple request was not accommodated, which made us feel surprisingly unwelcome.
The breakfast was also very average, if not below average, with a rather limited selection compared with what we expected from a hotel at this level. There simply wasn’t much variety or choice.
Another issue was the bathroom design. Every time we took a shower, water escaped from the shower area and spread across the bathroom/toilet floor, leaving much of the floor wet. This was inconvenient and definitely not something we expected in a hotel of this standard.
What disappointed us most wasn’t any one of these issues individually, but the overall experience. Small requests were met with a “no” rather than an attempt to help, while basic aspects such as breakfast and bathroom functionality also fell short of expectations.
The property itself looks stylish, but hospitality is ultimately about how guests are treated, not just the décor or the brand name. Unfortunately, the service and overall experience left us disappointed, and we would not choose to stay here again.

I can’t recommend Tyler and the team at the Hard Rock Hotel VIP Team highly enough.
Not only did they take such wonderful care of my friend, who unfortunately had to travel alone due to my illness, but they also went above and beyond by providing me with all the information I needed for my travel insurance claim.
Their kindness, understanding and support were very much appreciated during what was a difficult time.
