Higueron Hotel Malaga by Hilton

The location is very much out of the way The rooms are quirky, which I knew when I booked this and thought it wouldn't be an issue but having stayed I didn't love it, even though I have been married many years I don't think seeing each other sitting on the toilet was a great design aspect. Would of liked to use one of the pools but our window to do so was small and after waiting around in the morning for them to open we gave up. As a Diamond Hilton member I have stayed at many Hiltons over the years and this is one that I won't return to and I am so glad I amended my booking to only stay one night and not the original four I had booked, and to top it off the receptionist we dealt with was the rudest I have encountered. One positive was the breakfast was lovely.

PROS Received an upgraded room from a joyous young lady at Reception. Delightful public areas. Rooms serviced daily to a high standard of cleanliness. Staff mostly friendly and professional CONS Only 4/5 sun umbrellas at the Med pool, vastly insufficient. Towels left on the beds covered by umbrellas from early morning with no policing from pool staff. Went to Infinity Pool at 1030 and told not open until 1130. Returned at 1130 and only then told you have to book! Total incompetence. Remote location with infrequent shuttle to the beach. Bath in the middle of the bedroom not suited to a family environment.

Not worth the 5 star status. Hotel needs a refresh on the room areas.

The Lobby is still looking amazing with multiple seating areas and accommodations.

Very lovely location but a little far away from everything. The shuttle service used to be a cute train-truck and was quite useful to go down to or back up from the beach or train station…but has been replaced by vans with a very reduced frequency. Prepare to use Uber or taxis for your trips.

Rooms are nice but starting to get old and need maintenance or even an upgrade. Corridors and soils are not in a good shape, certainly due to floods. But this defaults seem to be everywhere. They really need to think about doing some reparations. Room cleaning is clearly rushed every day (bad bedmaking, no floor cleaning, coffee not provided after the first night complimentary, inviting you to use mini-bar area items…).

The resort has 3 pools on site. The Infinity pool is more private and located on the rooftop and needs booking with minimum spend on bar. The Med pool area has (once) nice sunbeds, and although not suitable for children, the area is filled with kids. If you want to relax, it is not a good idea to stay there, or maybe avoid school holidays and summer… The sunbathing equipment is getting old and needs some refreshing (same gear and cushions we had 5 years ago). Children used to be accepted on the other pool area on the lower level, which I thought was a good compromise. Now, kids are on both areas. Also, there is a beach club with overpriced fares for balineses and not a very interesting environment.

Breakfast is good with many options including gluten free. There are some fair options for on-site restaurants like the Sollo restaurant, the more classical Mediterranean Med restaurant or the Arara.

I can’t say I had a bad experience but was somehow disappointed on some aspects with the place I liked more 5 years ago. Prices have surely increased but the quality of service has gone down.
