We've just returned from 5 nights in this hotel . Rather than write a very similar review to the one already here, we'll agree that, in our opinion, it's 3 star not 4 . We paid for a pool view room which was fine during the day . It faced a busy road and it was noisy, bring ear plugs if you're a light sleeper. At night when people were talking on their balcony and moving chairs it might as well have been on your balcony as the noise really carried . Perhaps people don't realise that it happens. Any raised voices in the next room can be heard too . Not all guests are considerate , walls aren't very thick. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It's really small though. A TV in the area where there is a chair and dressing table so no mirror there, would have been handy to have for drying hair etc. We saw people handling food , not using tongs or sanitising , gel is available. I was ill for a day and a half which I spent in bed . My husband was fine , we ate different things the night before. After that I was a bit worried in case it happened again. One person we spoke to was in hospital for two days. The position of the hotel is good , it's not a quiet area, I don't know where that would be in Benidorm! The staff were very pleasant. We don't sunbathe so didn't need beds , it always seemed busy around the pool. It seems to be a popular place that people return to but we won't be coming back .
The location was brilliant would definitely go 2 that area again but not the hotel agua azul as the food wasn't up 2 scratch We was all inclusive and still had 2 pay 4 some drinks thay just made up the rules as thay went on witch we found disgusting there was allso a sickness bug going round the hotel there was a lot off people been sick or getting sick Allso some one died in the pool when we was there an the hotel staff did nothing it was left 2 the Guests 2 get him out off the pool an start cpr on him allso the guests had 2 ring the ambulance thay never even cleared the pool area thay just left guests round the pool witch Was disrespectful off the man that passed away The room was OK ish as we kept getting a realy bad smell comeing from the drains we asked other people that was there an thay said the same over the smell comeing from the drains We had 2 ask 4 clean towels and 4 the bedding changing as well .Four a 4 star hotel I would have expected the hotel 2 be nice as we stayed in a 4 star hotel just up the road just over 2 weeks previous an we was felt more welcome than at the hotel agua azul The hotel agua azul is ment 2 be closing 4 refurbish and I think it realy needs it and staff training on when thay have an emergency on site ie when a guest needs there help like we had 2 see when the guest died in the pool and thay did nothing at all If the hotel stays the same with out any changes or staff training I would be surprised if it shut down as there is a lot better hotels in the area with the food been poor and the staff haveing no training it was a let down an a waist off money we will never go back 2 this hotel ever again We allso asked some of the other guests and thay allso said thay would never go 2 the hotel again we have seen better 3 star hotels reviews than this one So if u going 2 benidorm pick some where else as you will be disappointed if you go hear
This was a last-minute trip with my bestie. We chose Benidorm for the convenient flight times (early out; late back) and the adults-only, 4 star and all-inclusive were attractive.
Our summary would be:
Good points: The hotel looked clean, reception staff were friendly, AI band was the room key, piña coladas were very good, daily room clean, regular towel changes (nice white, fluffy towels), decent balcony, tea and coffee making facilities in the room, fridge, good air con, 5 minute walk to a lovely beach and 2 minute walk to the old town.
Not so good: The food was ok. Choice was limited and some items were lukewarm. Bottled water had to be collected from the bar, which didn’t open until 10.30am - large fridges to help yourself would be better and ease bar queues. The pool area was small and tired looking. Rooms were also small with a very open plan bathroom arrangement. Nowhere to shower on the last day if you had a late flight, unless you kept your room on (35 EUR). Unfortunately we were unable to.
Overall, we would rate this as 3-star, definitely not 4-star.
The details:
Mainly English guests. Staff worked hard and were friendly. Check in was efficient.
The room was very small, no drawer space, and the bathroom was essentially part of the bedroom rather than a separate room. There was only a glass partition separating the sink area from one of the beds. The toilet did have a door and the shower was in an alcove. Good job we’d been friends for over 35 years and knew each other well!
The pool area wasn’t huge, but we managed to get sun beds each day - but annoyingly we had to queue for beds as the pool area didn’t open until 9.00 am. It was also completely shaded until around 11.00 am. There was an additional sun terrace at the side of reception with a few extra beds.
There was not a huge choice of food. There was ‘show cooking’ but this was limited. You could order omelette or poached eggs at breakfast Trays were stocked regularly. We felt there was an issue with the temperature of the food. Unless you arrived when food had just been put out, much of it was lukewarm. Some of the food was left uncovered which attracted flies. Unfortunately we didn’t think that overall the food was 4 star. We've stayed at many AI hotels over the years, and unfortunately this was one of the poorest we’ve experienced in terms of choice and quality.
More concerning was hearing from several other guests who had suffered from sickness and diarrhoea. Some said it lasted around 24 hours, while others had been unwell for three or four days. Other than a mild upset stomach, and one of us vomiting immediately after eating some soup, we were fine
We were very diligent about sanitising our hands around the buffet, particularly with so many people handling the same serving utensils. There was hand sanitizer available, although we rarely saw anyone use it - not the hotel’s fault. It’s not helped either when guests do not wash their hands after they’ve been to the toilet or before eating (which we observed). It’s not difficult people!! We cannot blame the hotel for that.
There was also a sewage smell around the hotel and in the pool toilets.
Overall, the hotel and food were 3-star and our 4-star expectations were not met, even though location wise it was excellent. We wouldn’t return to this hotel, although staff were helpful and the cleaning / bar staff worked hard.
We still managed to enjoy our break with the lovely beach and, most importantly, the sunshine! ☀️
The hotel has previously enjoyed glowing reviews from me (check my profile) and deserved it. My last stay was for a month.
We are currently in Benidorm and we have decided to stay a few extra days. The Agua Azul is close to the hotel where we are staying and seemed ideal. The Agua Azul is quite heavily booked but happily it was possible to book the few days that we wanted.
We agreed to meet at the hotel and book and pay at reception. I arrived 15 minutes early. I asked one of the staff if I could have a coffee in the bar/pool area while I was waiting. I was told it was no problem.
THEN IT STARTED !!! An older lady came running out and told me that I could not be in the bar area. I explaned what was happening and she seemed to be ok with it. 60 seconds later she came running out again and told me that I could not use the chair I about to sit on.
About 90 seconds later she came running out again because I was testing the pool temperature with my foot.
Enough is enough.
All this happened in about a 5 minute spell. 3 very public scenes, even if the other guests (some of whom where very sypathetic) found it amusing.
My partner appeared a few minutes later and we decided to book somewhere else. Which we did 15 minutes later, without any of the above nonsense.
Aqua Azul. Pros. Hotel is in a good location, the staff are very friendly and work hard. Our room was clean and tidy. With a comfortable bed , lovely clean sheets and pillows. A great hot shower. Good to have the key fob in the wrist band and a free safe. It was a nice pool area, people do queue early to get a sunbed, but they got them in an orderly fashion and wasn't a race . Choices of food were good and hot. Cons Whilst we were there many people got D&V. Including my wife. Food handling by staff is questionable. The wearing of blue gloves doesn't seem to be implemented, as most of the serving staff didn't wear any gloves. Staff also cooked different meats and fish on the same hot plate using the same tongs . In the pool snack bar they had cooked onions left uncovered on the side. They used the same tongs to scoop out a portion and place on the hot plate to warm back up for less than 5 seconds and put in a roll. Which is cross contamination. I am sorry to say that we wouldn't return.
