Just returned from a week’s holiday in Funchal, this hotel is central but on a hill. The hotel is well maintained and has comfortable bedrooms and lounge / bar facilities. It is a very international hotel with lots of visitors from different places in Europe. Our room was very good, the beds are comfortable with a choice of pillows. The bathroom is good with shower over bath and good wardrobe space. The only drawback is the very small balcony! I really don’t understand why they have designed them in this manner and it’s the one thing that makes me think about looking at other hotels if we return. The restaurant however could persuade me to return! The quality and choice of food on offer at breakfast and in the evening is exceptional. We took the half board with drinks option and enjoyed local wine and beer with our meal along with a bottle of water. The waiting staff are lovely, very friendly, interested in your day and will offer to remove plates as and when you are finished a meal. The range of meals available suits all diets. There is a young lady who works on a desk next to reception, she was very helpful with any questions we had. The same can’t be said for reception staff who would shut down your question with a response before you even finished the sentence. They are the only staff who were unfriendly. The spa facilities were great with helpful staff and the pool bar area was lovely with lots of comfortable seats and friendly staff. The pool area, beds etc are comfortable, the pool patio area however could be slippy if wet and there were a couple of tumbles when we were there. Overall this is a fabulous hotel with lovely extra interior design features which enhanced it. Getting into town is not too bad when you find the right path so really good to be so close to Funchal centre but far enough away. We will return to Madeira but would look to try and get a room with a bigger balcony!
This is a great hotel, staff are excellent and very friendly. Rooms are spacious and clean. Good location close to nice restaurants and bars, about a 20 min walk. 20 min walk to the centre and seafront.
Situated overlooking Funchal Town, the views are exceptional. We stayed 10 nights in Room 1003 on the top residential floor and this is one of the best rooms in the hotel affording extra priviledges. It is away from the hustle and quiet. The room is very large with a separate sitting area and kitchenette, large bathroom with free standing tub and walk in rain shower. All very comfortable. Cleaning service was a little variable and the turn down service never materialised albeit we were given chocolates on three of the ten nights. The breakfast buffet was very good, we dined once at the dinner buffet and were not that impressed, there are plenty of restaurants in town that are better. We also dined once at Desarma, the 11th floor Michelin stared restaurant which was superb and reviewed separately. We sat out at the outdoor pool which was lovely, clean and nice temperature with plenty of sun loungers. Staff were friendly and particular praise to Lidia De Ascensao from guest relations who was exceptional and very helpful. We had a great ten days and would certainly return.
The hotel name describes the location - it’s like sitting on a cruise ship - The rooms are spacious - dial 9 almost immediate response Breakfast is fabulous We were b&b however as the food was exceptional we ate in most evenings - themed menus - fabulous tastes - spectacular deserts Very reasonable bar prices in comparison to Croatia Taxis 8-10 euro to the centre Lovely spa No rush for beds on a morning
Beautiful hotel with incredible nice pool. The view of the surrounding mountains is beautiful. The staff in both restaurant and reception are very helpful. Especially the reception staff puts a lot of effort in making you feel welcome.
