Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.

We spent the last days of our honeymoon at Portobay. The housekeeping team was so caring and eager to make our stay unforgettable. The complex is huge with several restaurants and bars, the food and cocktails in each one are delicious. This changes from other classic big hotel complexes. Special thank you to the spa : the massages we had (on the 25/09) were the best ones in our lives.
Our visits over 15 years have always been the very best. This complex is clearly worth 5* rating. The staff are brilliant, the service excellent and most friendly.
We have stayed in all parts of this complex, Porto Bay, Porto Mare and The Residence. All have offered excellent rooms and full access to all restaurants, pools and facilities. We enjoy returning to this hotel because it offers all we need and we always find it a relaxing place to stay. Funchal is easily walkable if you are comfortable with the long hill. It tends to be mature people who stay here and there are fewer children.
As always our home from home was very good. The accommodation is very comfortable and well maintained. They kindly provided me with, not only decaf coffee, but also tea bags. The Air Con had been renewed and worked very well
