Well established high quality aparthotel. We have ben visiting for thirty years and the quality has been consistent. A bit pricey but worth paying. eserved yet attentive in a Portugueses style.
A really lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Centrally placed in the hotel area with plenty of restraunts close by. The speciality dining experiences are well worth trying. Their customer loyalty scheme is also generous.
This is a wonderful hotel with superb facilities and an outstanding staff team. Food was excellent and the location was great near walkways into Funchal or Churchill Bay. We truly relaxed and enjoyed the hotel’s beautiful gardens and range of facilities. This is our third stay with the Portobay Group in Madeira and we have already booked to return.
We absolutely loved our stay. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a larger suite. The rooms are spacious with great views. Ours could have used a refresh in terms of carpet and furniture, but the outstanding, consistent friendly service offers throughout the entire complex (and the fact that all guests are welcomed in all Portobay facilities) made for a wonderful, relaxed experience. The buffet breakfasts were elaborate and meet every taste. Horta restaurant was fantastic. Even room service food was well above average. We felt welcomed and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The location about 1 1/2 miles out of town was good. There is no direct ocean access, but we swam daily at the free public lido swim area—just steps from the Portobay residences entrance. There is a public bus at the Porto Mare entrance. And most all day tour providers pick up there. Front desk clerks are able concierges. In fact, one of the most noticeable things about the outstanding service is that every staff member seems to have some cross-training and is willing to help with any issue.
We had a great stay here and loved this hotel.
The hotel has great facilities, the staff are very helpful and polite, the pools and swimming facilities are fantastic, the cocktails are strong, the beds and pillows are comfy and the cleanliness is great. Its also a great location for local bars and restaurants and a short bus ride to the centre of funchal and cable cars.
The hotel has a beautiful orchid garden that you must visit.
There was only one downside to our stay. We stayed in a studio suite, which was located directly above one of the main bars and restaurants, which stayed open until 11pm. And on weekend evenings had live music until 11pm. For some this would be great, but for us, after a full day exploring I wanted to rest and sleep and did find the noise stopped that.
It wouldn't stop us staying again, but we would stay in a different part of the hotel.
