The new and luxurious superior 5-star hotel, boasts superb views of the ocean and gardens, harmoniously blending bold, modern and historical styles. It is inspirational for the elegance of its interiors and comfort sublimated to details, expressed in the quality of its materials, the perfection of its finishes, the softness of its textures, the richness of its decorative features and the interior design itself. All guest rooms and suites present a striking contemporary décor, with custom-created fabrics, as well as bespoke furniture manufactured mostly by local artisans, and also feature sleek living area and office space.
This was our second stay at this fabulous hotel and it is still as excellent as ever. Beautifully appointed bedrooms, friendly and helpful staff, the most amazing breakfast and a great choice of things to do on site as well as nearby. It's location is perfect being within easy walking distance of Funchal city centre. A small wheel broke on my wife's wheelchair and it was fixed by an amazing maintenance man, sorry we didn't get a name but were very thankful for his skills. We will definitely be back!
We started our summer holidays with four days at this hotel in Funchal. It is well located in walking distance of the old town and cable car etc. Being honest, the visit didn’t start particularly well - when I visit a premium hotel, I expect slick service, however the check in process was quite the opposite. Time consuming and frustrating when all you want to do is drop your bags and rest. We were passed from a greeter to counter staff, all said it took over 30 minutes. In this world, I have no idea why it takes so long. That said, this is my only fault, and the hotel still gets a full 5 stars, the beds are so comfortable, rooms well appointed. There is an evening turndown service where chocolate and water are provided. Breakfast is beautiful (tip: try the eggs Benedikt). The main hotel bar lacks atmosphere, but the pool area is stunning. Also the pool bar menu is fantastic. The roof top pool is often overlooked, but this is a peaceful alternative to the larger pool. Would come again, but hopefully the check in process will improved and make for a fully special experience.
A mixed review incoming. We stayed here as a couple at the end of June. Arrived 12 noon, room wasn’t ready. It was a bit early so we went for lunch. Told they would ring but we never got a call so went back at 2pm and room still wasn’t ready. Finally at 2.40 I checked again and it was ready. There was no welcome drink which I would expect from a hotel of this stature. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, spotless and well maintained. However very little storage space, definitely not enough for 2 people for a week. And no dressing table with a mirror and plug. Again something I would expect to see. Air conditioning is centrally controlled and turned off overnight, the time you need it most! We had someone else’s €300 meal added to our bill! Quickly sorted by reception but only because I spotted it. On a positive note this hotel is beautiful, the pool and the grounds are immaculate. Staff are friendly and the sky bar is excellent, if a bit pricy. Very opulent hotel. Anita on turndown service is lovely and did a great job. Room always cleaned to a high standard. I’ve given a 4 because of niggles that given the price we paid shouldn’t really happen but would I stay here again Yes!
We recently stayed at Savoy Palace in Madeira and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The hotel is beautiful, the facilities are excellent, and the staff genuinely care about providing guests with a memorable experience.
One of the highlights of our stay was breakfast. The selection was outstanding, with an extensive variety of fresh fruit, pastries, hot dishes, local specialities and freshly prepared juices. Every morning felt relaxed despite how busy the restaurant was. The breakfast team worked tirelessly to ensure guests were well looked after, and their warmth and professionalism made each day start perfectly.
Our room was spacious, beautifully designed and extremely comfortable. We particularly appreciated the pillow menu, which was a thoughtful touch. We did experience an issue with the shower, but as soon as we mentioned it to the front desk, the maintenance team responded immediately and resolved the problem without delay. It was reassuring to see how seriously guest feedback was taken.
The concierge team were another standout. They were knowledgeable, friendly and took the time to tailor recommendations and excursions to our interests rather than offering generic suggestions. Their local knowledge really helped us make the most of our time exploring Madeira.
The hotel’s restaurants were excellent. We especially loved dining at Pau de Lume and Alameda, where both the food and service were exceptional and became highlights of our stay.
We would also like to recognise some of the wonderful staff who made our visit so enjoyable. A heartfelt thank you to João (Concierge), Susana, Susanna, Natasha, Beatriz and Sérgio from the breakfast team, Emanuel at the pool, Alberto, Restaurant Manager, António Bruno at the front entrance and reception, Ênio from the front desk management team, Duarte Castrio and Maria Marques. Each of them made us feel genuinely welcome through their kindness, professionalism and willingness to help. They are a real credit to the hotel.
The only area where we feel there is room for improvement is with room requests. On several occasions, when we called reception to request items for our room, it took over 30 minutes for them to arrive, and on a couple of occasions the wrong items were delivered. These were relatively minor issues, but improved communication between departments would help create the seamless luxury experience that Savoy Palace is known for.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return. Savoy Palace combines beautiful accommodation, excellent dining, attentive staff and a fantastic location from which to explore Madeira. It is the people who truly make this hotel special, and we look forward to returning in the future.
Our 4th time at the Savoy Palace A few niggles that disappointed us very slightly For a few days the second breakfast restaurant was closed( presumably because hotel wasn’t full) but this resulted in lines forming for breakfast at certain times. I don’t think queuing for breakfast is ever acceptable but in a hotel like this which strives to exceed expectations it’s a big big NO ! There’s nothing that will ever stop the idiots who reserve sunbeds at crack of dawn and don’t use them until noon but the pool attendants whilst great in all other things certainly did nothing to stop it. The attendants in the upstairs pool however were totally vigilant Also , not sure what I think about charging for cabanas or in pool sunbeds. I’m sure they were free last time. It’s a bit greedy That said - it’s a great hotel. Every member of staff was wonderful, the restaurants brilliant and housekeeping and cleanliness second to none Only giving it 4 stars to reflect the few niggles but really it should be 5 Will I return - in a heartbeat!
