This luxury hotel overlooks a bay and affords impressive views out over the sea, which is roughly 3 km away. Restaurants are located within 500 m, whilst shops, nightclubs and bars are situated 3 km away. Links to the public transport network lie directly in front of the hotel.
Built in 1888 and renovated in 2003, this stylish country manor house comprises a total of 24 rooms spread over 7 floors. Guests may make use of the foyer with 24-hour reception desk, a hotel safe, a currency exchange counter and a lift. There is also a bar, TV room, a games room, a reading corner and an international restaurant as well as à la carte restaurant (both air conditioned and with highchairs for children). Furthermore, there is a public Internet terminal and a bicycle storage facility. Those arriving by car may take advantage of the hotel's car park or garage facilities. Laundry, room and medical services round off the facilities on offer.
The appealing and stylish rooms come with an en suite bathroom with hairdryer, bathrobes, a direct dial telephone, satellite/cable TV, an Internet connection, a minibar/ fridge, a king-size bed, air conditioning, carpeting, a balcony/terrace (only in superior rooms) and a hire safe. Superior rooms have a bay view, balcony or direct access to the panoramic terrace.
The outdoor complex offers a freshwater swimming pool, poolside snack bar as well as a sun terrace with sun loungers and parasols. Furthermore, there is a sauna, a massage service and steam room on offer to guests (for an additional fee). Use of a Jacuzzi is available free of charge. Sports enthusiasts may also pay a visit to the in-house gym or try their hand at billiards. The nearest golf course is approximately 8 km away
Guests may select their breakfast from a buffet. Lunch and dinner may be selected from the à la carte menu or alternatively chosen from the set menu. Furthermore, it is possible to book a half-board stay.
Take advantage of recreational opportunities offered, including an outdoor pool, a hot tub and a sauna. Additional amenities at this hotel include complimentary wireless Internet access, babysitting (surcharge) and wedding services. Guests can get around on the complimentary shuttle, which operates within 2 km.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Hotel on an extremely steep/vertical, narrow road which can be extremely busy especially with the wicker toboggans flying down, cars, bikes and trucks. There is a Monday to Friday hotel curtesy bus which you need to book in advance which goes into centre of funchal and back 3x per day. Nothing on the weekend. For us without mobility issues this was a life line together with excellent taxi service. I cannot express how steep and narrow the roads were. We walked back from Funchal once - never again as horrendous and dangerous. The hotel itself is fine with some nice touches and the views are breathtaking - a room with a balcony is essential. One reviewer mentioned they had champagne on arrival - that did not happen for us. We were given a key, told where to locate our room and basically left to get on with it. No concierge services to take suitcases to room. There was no information in the rooms to help adjust such as where to find taxis or local buses or local information. There was information on how we could purchase the towels and dressing gowns though! I would have expected more. It does look tired in places with worn rugs, carpets and worn furniture in room. Pool was lovely although a little small but not heated and there is a pool bar. Hotel very clean although our superior double room I feel was on the small side. Breakfast very good with a wide choice. However day 2 the toaster caught fire causing semi exit from hotel at 7.30am in the morning due to fire alarm sounding and subsequently no toaster for remainder of stay. I have never stayed in a hotel which charges for tea and coffee in room - this one does 4. 5 euros!!! We had dinner once at the hotel which was reasonably priced. Food was good not great and our tuna and duck were overcooked. Food well presented. Service was very attentive and could not be faulted. We experienced a lot of noise with doors shutting and above our room at times it sounded like heavy furniture was being rolled over the floor. Staff polite but not generally friendly and some appeared new and confused. We ordered a negroni which a bar man couldn't make and dry martini which was just sweet martini !! Bar man apologised later and made a negroni and a whisky with compliments. In fact he was the warmest member of staff we met. There are no other resturants other than the one in the hotel, a mini supermarket about a 15 minute walk, some of which is on that steep road. There is a taxi rank and bus stop about a 5 minute walk down the steep road. Taxis could work out expensive if you were unable to walk into or from funchal which I would not recommend at all. We walked back once from Funchal and it was horrendous. We always checked prices of taxis which before 9pm was about 9 euros and after 9pm was about 12 euros each way. We spoke to two guests who paid 20 euros one way - be careful. Hiring a car was not an option for us due to the steep and narrow roads making us too anxious to even think about. This was not the hotel for us due to location and I personally feel it is over priced for what you get. Had we known how isolated the hotel was we would never have booked. Distance to Funchal centre from hotel may be accurately quoted in brochures however distance seems so much longer as walking an a practically vertical slope. Other reviews are not responded to the hotel that I can see. I hope by reading this it helps any decisions you make about booking.
Fantastic stay at this wonderful hotel. Spotlessly clean rooms and super friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant food wss excellent. A free courtesy bus is provided on weekdays to take you to and from the town centre.
The hotel was beautiful, with great facilities, and extremely clean throughout.
All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly Emanuel in the restaurant, who made our stay in your hotel even better!
The lady Chef Mrs Tania even took the time to make me a birthday cake, which was such a kind thing to do.
We have stayed in many hotels throughout Europe, and Quinta Mirabela has definitely been one of our best ever experiences!
As literally a last minute booking, and not having visited Madeira before, we were pleasantly surprised to find this boutique 5* hotel at such an affordable price, with superb facilities including a restaurant serving outstanding food, along with a very relaxing spa and pool. What really made this hotel stand out though was the staff. Mr Paulo Franco and his team were both friendly and professional in equal measure, ensuring any issues were managed quickly and efficiently (including help with fixing a 'bump' on our rental car which saved a fortune in deposit fees). Along with the truly beautiful sites of Madeira, as a holiday experience this will be hard to beat!
A boutique hotel that gives off a warm glow: personable, helpful service from all the staff; with views that are breathtaking of Funchal and the ocean. Public spaces are tasteful and very relaxing. Bedroom very quiet, clean and comfortable. Breakfast wide ranging: cooked ingredients, pastries, fruit, yogurts, granola and all delicious. We went half board and looked forward each evening to dinner - great choice, excellent ingredients beautifully cooked and served. The spa facilities are excellent and complimentary. The 3 times a weekday complimentary shuttle service: outward 10.15, 14.15 and 17.15 and return (from the old town) 10.30, 14.30 and 17.30 mainly obviated the need for walking, buses or taxis. Local Bolt app and taxi service very reliable and modestly priced when needed to get to say Monte Palace Tropical Garden (which is a tough walk uphill or 2 buses), morning whale watching trip (with 10 am check in) or Reid's Palace for afternoon tea (a couple of miles away in the western suburbs). This hotel is a gem: perfect base for holiday in Madeira and thoroughly recommended.
