The city centre of Funchal can be easily reached in a 20-minute walk, as well as other nearby villages. All guest rooms are nicely furnished with superior materials and stunning features such as a private balcony with panoramic views. Each of them is individually decorated in soothing and warm colours to ensure its guests enjoy a relaxing and unwinding stay. The on-site restaurant boasts a romantic decoration and serves mouth-watering dishes that will delight even the most discerning guests. Guests will be impressed by the well-kept and beautiful on-site leisure facilities.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Having just returned from this hotel, on first impressions it looked lovely! The staff were absolutely outstanding and rushed off their feet, more staff were needed at various times of the day. The bedroom we had was very shabby, carpets needed a clean, bathroom smelt mouldy. This room itself was very musty smelling even though I opened the doors! The curtains in the whole of the hotel were either just about hanging or off their hooks no dressing of curtains at all. I know this might sound pedantic but for a 4 star hotel I expected better. The furniture in the main reception area was very well worn and dirty looking. Carpets on the landings leading to bedrooms was coming away from the skirting boards which I think this needed replacing throughout. The menu was the same all week, so as we are not big eaters, we only had a main course which was either steak, lamb chops or salmon. Hardly any vegetables and no salads on the menu in the evening. The road outside the hotel is very narrow with no pavement so you have to be very careful to get to the public bus stop which I must say is very cheap to go into Funchal. The terrace area had not been swept all week! They had a pianist playing which was lovely but not first thing in the morning at breakfast this should have been played in the evening whilst dinner was being served. Not everyone wants to go out of the hotel in the evening it would have been nice to hear the piano being played instead of the awful jazz music they had playing. In all very disappointed. I would inform people to get a hotel nearer the town as at least you can go for walks in the evening. Taxis tend to charge what they like so be wary and haggle with them! Madeira is a lovely place to visit but I would not go back to this hotel.
Lovely staff. Large room and bed. Lovely reception and common spaces: large, with a lot of marble, wood, plants.
Luxurious some time ago but far from now. The wooden door and window frames and the skirting boards were old and poorly maintained, with some areas showing significant damage. The plaster on the walls has cracks. The walls were dirty and in need of repainting.

We were pleasantly surprised by Madeira and the hotel when we eventually arrived. Circled for quite a while, too windy to land , this seems to be a fairly common issue. We decided that Funchal is more like a city break, the hotel is nicely situated halfway up one of the many slopes with great views over the bay. Our room is a good size with views over the side of the hills and down to the bay and harbour. The grounds are nicely planted out with semi tropical flowering bushes and seated areas to enjoy the views. We stayed for 7 days , asked Laura on reception for guidance on trips. She booked three for us. A Lavada walk, a trip to Nuns valley and whale watching boat trip. Very helpful, we also went to the tropical gardens via the cable car. The gardens are worth a visit , you can watch the sledges come down the hill from the cafe at the bottom. We also loved the half day Lavada walk, a gentle stroll along one of the woodland pathways. Breakfast at the hotel was livened up by a Harris’s hawk . Her handler took her round the terrace on pigeon deterrent duty each morning. A pianist played every morning. We also liked the pool and gymn. We were on half board and over 7 days worked our way through quite a bit of the menu, everything was well presented , tasty and we were well looked after by Carolina , Ernesto and other lovely staff.
Having read several reviews both positive and negative about the hotel we book a weeks stay .Once you go through the revolving doors you get a sense of style and class, we booked as this was an adults only hotel ,Some of the reviews stated how tired and needing a refurb all I can say is this, The hotel in some places could do with a little bit of TLC, However our stay was outstanding from the front desk to the cleaning staff nothing was too much trouble ,The food in the restaurant was sublime. Yes the pigeons at breakfast time were a nuisance however this happens at several hotels and they hire a Falconer to keeps the birds away or just simply eat inside and you still get beautiful views .We walk in to Funchal town which took about 20 minutes be warned the walk back is much better by taxi which cost about 7-8 euros. The breakfast buffet had plenty of choice .The swimming pools may not be the biggest however they always had plenty of space. So please book this hotel if you want a relaxing stay with great food and drink stunning views and extremely comfortable beds .To all of the team at the Quinta thank you for a memorable stay and we will be back in 2027
