If you are looking for a peaceful and quiet retreat, this is the place to stay - I absolutely loved this Hotel, and the staff were all fabulous. The facilities were excellent, spotlessly clean - the gardens were stunning! The Hotel is located outside of the central area of Funchal - but I don’t feel this is a negative, and actually adds to the experience (the views are incredible). There is a free shuttle bus into and out of Funchal, which we made use of a few times. Taxis aren’t very expensive either, so you don’t have to face the epic climb back up the hills to the Hotel (unless you’re feeling very energetic, in which case good luck to you!). I’d recommend hiring a car if you want to have the freedom to explore the island, and there is a large carpark to facilitate this - you can also park on the road outside if it does get full. We stayed in a Superior Room, which was lovely and kept exceptionally clean by the Housekeeping team. Breakfast - very good selection, everything you would want and expect. Make sure you give the lovely cat that lounges around the pool some attention (never found out what his/her name was, but he/she was clearly enjoying his/her days soaking up the Sun & attention from the guests). I would come back here without any hesitation - thank you to the team for a lovely visit.
Located in an old Garden the Hotel gives you the feel of an old Continental House with big rooms and a very good service. The Hotel ist quiet & clean. Housekeeping is very good and services like laundry service is done excellent. The breakfast is good however not exeptional and the staff always seems to be in a hurry. Unfortunately the hotel is a big away from the town so that you either need to take the shuttle bus or you have to take an uber or a cab to get downtown or back up. Its 45 mins walking distance to reach the beginning of the city downwards which can be done, but maybe not back to the hotel....
We were relocated to this hotel due to building works at our original booking, so it wasn’t our first choice. It’s situated a little further from the town centre — a weekday shuttle service was available, and taxis/Bolt cost around €7.50 each way. Despite the location, we couldn’t fault anything about the hotel itself. The rooms were immaculately clean and refreshed every day, and all the staff were consistently pleasant and helpful. We booked bed-and-breakfast; the breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of options. The pool area was fantastic — the team who managed the loungers and towels were great, and the pool bar staff were incredibly attentive. I’d happily recommend this hotel, though for my own preference I’d have chosen somewhere closer to the town centre."
We spent seven days (27 Aug 3 September) here. We had a superior room with the balcony, in the main building.
We can only describe this place as idyllic, enchanted and tranquil.
The ambience is elegant and quaint, the grounds magnificent and very elegant.
We especially enjoyed the pool area and the pool bar/restaurant, as well as the Manor House with its excellent restaurant.
We received a warm welcome and excellent service throughout.
Although all the staff were superb, we’d like to thank Paula, Daniel, Luiz in reception; Mohammed, Ali, and Martim at the pool bar, and Sonia and Eusebio in the restaurant.

What a lovely hotel! The staff went above and beyond to help with ideas of walks, rental car companies and things to do. Hugo was so lovely at reception. The breakfast was delicious and all staff were so friendly and kind. The rooms are very traditional and not hugely modern if that is what you are after. We didn't mind as it was perfectly comfortable, and we weren't spending much time in them anyway. The gardens are beautiful and make a very magical feeling. I would highly recommend this hotel.
