For peace and tranquility
We definitely recommend this beautiful hotel. It is so peaceful and comfortable, away from the traffic and crowds and surrounded by a beautiful garden.
The evening meals in the lovely dining room were all excellent and we loved the set menu. Breakfasts were a treat - good coffee and juices too - and excellent service.
The tap water is fine, but we also got a complimentary bottle of water each day in our room, though a charge is made for water with meals.
It is extremely easy to pop into Funchal centre using the free shuttle bus, taxis (Bolt was good and very cheap) and the very regular and excellent busses from just up the road. We walked down a few times too, but it would be a bit of a slog to walk back. The hotel has a useful clear bus map. We found the very steep, narrow windy roads everywhere a bit hairy so were grateful not to be driving.
The Palheiro Gardens are super and very quiet (easiest by taxi) and the Monte Palace and Botanical gardens also excellent. The museum of sacred art is worth a visit as is the church opposite. We recommend at least one lavada walk - especially to see the fauna.
There is a huge supermarket (with very cheap wine!), a good cafe (for sandwiches), a takeaway and a pharmacy nearby.
The tennis court was fine for a decent game - there is no charge and we borrowed the rackets and balls for free.
The pool area is delightful with lovely comfortable sunbeds too. The pool was a bit too chilly for me though!
Our room was lovely - with good beds and quiet air con - and very clean. There are lots of very pleasant areas to sit in within the hotel too - all beautifully furnished.

Little disappointed
Little disappointed of the gap between the 5* rating and the actual standard. Staff are helpful and always willing to help. Morning breakfast was the same every day , not much of a variety. Staff member in particular at the dining area was rude towards us for moving the chair for our comfort, and the manner in we were spoken was not pleasant. Jacuzzi area is open with no privacy. The place needs some modernising. It was certainly not a 5 star experience.

Great 5 star hotel , bedrooms lovely , food quality amazing , 4 course set evening menu may not suit kids as a set menu. Service amazing Sonia was most engaging. Only reflection was the price of drinks was a little high 7 euro for a large beer. 5 euro for a coke. Outside of this amazing hotel with amazing service.
Thoroughly enjoyed the experience
The location is circa ten minutes from main thoroughfare and readily accessible by courtesy bus, public transport or taxi. The atmosphere is peaceful and slow moving. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the feel of the hotel is genuine. With regard to value , we ate in the poolside bar on a couple of occasions and the food and service was top notch. My one gripe would be the cost of a drink compared to the other locations and should be addressed. Other than that , we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and staff are a credit to the establishment

5 star tranquility at its best
Quinta da Bela Vista is set in an area of total tranquility and this is obvious as soon as you approach the sweeping drive with a fountain outside its main entrance because you get a sense of stillness. The Reception Team - Paula, Ricardo, Luis and Daniel (apologies for not mentioning other members of the team whom I talked to, I forgot to make a note of your names) were genuinely welcoming and each had the most friendliest of smiles from Moses (the driver who picked me up from and to the airport) to the restaurant staff (who remembered my room number after my 1st day). I had a beautiful room with a balcony from which you could see a few stunning mountain views of Funchal as well as some of the hotel’s well maintained gardens. The facilities could not be faulted: Avista Navios & Piano Bar where I had an excellent four-course meal; Quinta Bela Vista restaurant (Manor House) for a more refined fine dining experience (and even as a solo guest, I did not feel out of place) and then there was the Pool Bar & Casinha de Prazeres - here you could chill, drink eat and take in the surrounding mountain views. It was a sheer delight being served by Mohamed - his enthusiasm for serving guests could not be faulted as it was evident that he wanted to provide the best service as possible (as did the rest of the staff). Other facilities included a swimming pool, a tennis court, sauna and jacuzzi (which you could have to yourself), a gym, yoga class and a courtesy mini bus. Getting out and about was not an issue as there was a mini bus shuttle service, taxi's could be booked by the Reception Team and we must not forget Uber. I highly recommend this hotel and would happily stay there again.
