I’m so happy we chose this hotel for my birthday trip! Great staff, nice rooms and a good selection of restaurants and bars - both at the hotel and in the nearby area of the Lido. The pool area is lush and the complex has a gigantic garden. Short taxi/bus ride in to down town Funchal. I can’t fault anything, we had a great stay!
We recently stayed at Hotel Porto Mare and had a wonderful experience. The hotel is peaceful, beautifully located, and in a great area for exploring Madeira. Everything was very clean, the interior was elegant and well maintained, and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing. We truly enjoyed our stay and felt very comfortable throughout our visit. We would definitely return to Hotel Porto Mare and would happily recommend it to others looking for a relaxing and pleasant stay in Madeira.
This was our 6th visit to Porto Mare. We like the position and love the gardens and general layout. The taxi transfers, arranged by the hotel were excellent. We had a superior room this time and it was very good, complimented by superior housekeeping plus super sea & gardens outlook. Buffet was of usual reasonable standard for breakfast and the 3 dinners we had. Two visits to Alfama restaurant were 5 star for food quality, presentation and service. Sadly we could not say the same for the Basilico this time. The service was not the best and the main meals were not of top quality or presentation- disappointing. Whilst reception staff were generally very friendly and helpful, unfortunately at the time of departure I handed the keys in and said the bill had been settled the afternoon before. However, the gentleman on duty at 08.30 responded by saying there was €17 outstanding! I queried this as I had paid by card at Alfama and Portifino bar the previous evening. He didn’t agree, until I presented him the card payment receipt, which he, almost begrudgingly, accepted. A few minutes later, we found he had not bothered to tell us our taxi was waiting for us, of which he had been advised about by the helpful young lady driver, who was early as usual!
A great hotel in a good location with plenty of restaurants and bars nearby. We had a very large sea view room which was very clean and spacious. Pool area was excellent, kept very clean and always plenty of sunbeds.
I would absolutely stay here again. The hotel and grounds are beautiful. It's an easy walk to Funchal with plenty of sidewalks to get around. There's a grocery store right behind the hotel down the hill for anything you need and a bunch of restaurants within 5 minute's walk. There's a little do it yourself laundromat right out back in the parking lot that you can use for a few euros. Our room was great. My friend and I got the Jr. Suite and it had plenty of room and a great balcony with a partial view of the ocean. The bathroom was huge with great water pressure and lots of hot water that didn't come and go like a lot of hotels. The pools are amazing and we had breakfast every morning overlooking the main pool. The breakfast buffet is great. There's something for everyone there. I would do it again!
