Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Madeira such a beautiful place. Hotel prices expensive….eating out far more reasonable Travelling around on the buses hop on and off is the best way to see the island
Great location, excellent food and lovely staff. Could do with a bit more shade round the pool and gardens but aside from that all good.
This a very good hotel, with beautiful grounds and excellent facilities views across the coast are delightful. The hotel is well situated near local restaurants small shops etc. Well served by local buses and excursion companies. We have stayed 3 times over several years and look forward to going again.
This was our third visit to Porto Mare Hotel and as usual it was a fine experience. The hotel is spotlessly clean inside and the tropical gardens are really magnificent. The maid service for the rooms is very efficient. The staff are all very helpful and welcoming. The breakfast is excellent with plenty of choice. We did not go for half board, so we can't comment on the dinners, but the menus for the different international evenings sounded very nice indeed. The indoor pool is fabulous along with the built in sauna and steam rooms. The outdoor pool is gorgeous, alongside the cafe/bar. In all a very excellent hotel.
Porto Mare itself is lovely if you like a resort type feel but for us it was a bit impersonal. Most of the staff were not friendly. If you are not all inclusive the drinks were very expensive. The entertainment caters for the more elderly clientelle of which there were many! The room was very nice and spacious but for the money I would expect the bottled water to have been replaced once drunk but it wasn't. You had the usual scenario of towels being put out before breakfast but there were plenty of loungers so it was humorous rather than an issue. The additional charges were also a bit much. €2 each to play a small putting green when you have paid thousands to stay. The location is very good for exploring and Funchel itself is beautiful. Plenty of good places to eat and drink in the area. The dolphin and whale boat trip I would recommend also.
