This hotel enjoys an impressive location on a cliff with a view over the Atlantic. It is just a short walk from the centre of Funchal. There are restaurants, pubs and shopping venues situated not far from the property. This luxury hotel was recently renovated and comprises a total of 75 rooms and a number of on-site facilities. Guests may choose to relax with a book from the library or make use of the Internet access. Dining options include a restaurant, in which first-rate cookery and live entertainment are presented, and a snug bar. There are 2 function rooms that can also be booked for cocktail receptions, conferences and other events.
Be sure to enjoy recreational amenities including an outdoor pool and a sauna. Additional features at this hotel include complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and shopping on-site.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We visited as a family of five at the end of August 2026 and stayed in adjoining rooms with a side view of the coast to Funchal. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, and the hotel itself is beautiful and perfectly located in the Lido area, a 30 minute walk from the centre of the city. The access to the sea is a real highlight. Take a snorkel as there are so many fish in the water as soon as you step off the ladder (more than at the marine reserve at Garajau). At night you can sleep to the sound of the waves below. There are lots of excellent restaurants nearby, and also a well stocked supermarket with a large car park which is useful if you rent a car (about €12 to park overnight). Breakfast is very good, with a wide selection of options and we enjoyed talking to Lisbeth who would greet us every morning and showed us pictures of her five lovely dogs after we mentioned our golden retriever who sadly had to stay at home in the UK! Being fairly small, the hotel never felt busy or noisy. We were so glad we chose to stay there rather than some of the larger hotels available. Finally, we found it good value to book direct via the Pestana website rather than as a package through a travel agent. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Great location directly by the ocean. Big rooms, very good service and nice people. Hotel is not very big and hence quiet, but food is good and fresh. We all enjoyed our stay. Sea view room was a highlight.
We had a fantastic holiday in this hotel. It is located 15 mins away from Funchal centre, easily accessed by taxi. The hotel in nearby lots of restaurants, bars and tourists’ shops, if you feel like staying local.
The rooms are nice and spacious; the view from the terrace is unbeatable. The cleanliness was perfect and our cleaner went beyond expectations!
Nice big pool with a bar; the pool staff are great and very helpful. You’ll always find sunloungers and parasols, even when it is very busy. There also is a restaurant by the pool. For lunches. You can also access the sea from the pool area, if you wish to dip in for a dive and snorkelling.
The breakfast restaurant is wonderful, with views over the ocean and great selection of sweet and savoury buffet to please everyone.
The à la carte restaurant in Vila Lido is lovely, with its colonial character and great food. Very nice bar too, open until midnight!
We really enjoyed the Madeiran evening in Vila Lido, with a beautiful menu and live music.
We particularly enjoyed the Summer Party by the pool, with live music (saxophonist Basilio got everyone on their feet with his varied repertoire!!)

Excellent hotel and facilities. All rooms overlooked the sea and you could swim in the sea or hotel pool direct from the hotel. Breakfast buffet was superb. Highly recommended place to stay Madeira.
We stayed at the ocean-view suite on the 8th floor (room 816) for two nights in mid-July 2026. Fantastic ocean view and great location.
Unfortunately, there was an issue with bed bugs. This was the first stop on our vacation, and the characteristic bite marks began to appear the morning after our second night (numerous bites in tight clusters and straight lines that started to itch a few days later).
