Pestana Royal All Inclusive Ocean and Spa Resort

Spent a lovely week at the pastana royal . Got off to a bumpy start , didnt have a room with a walk in shower as requested . Was soon remedied with an upgrade .Room was tidy and clean as is the whole hotel . After that everything relatively smooth . Food was plentifull and hot .show cooking left a bit to be desired as i dont think burgers are show cooking . Maderia is an island so would have liked to see fresh fish being cooked . Waiting staff very effiecient . Ahmed our waiter was incredible and with Daniel running the dinning room everthing ran like clockwork . Bar staff very friendly and easy to get on with . Snack bar im affraid was very poor .The burgers were batch cooked , barely warm and tasteless . The hotel was full ,but we never waited for a table , sun lounger , drink . The free shuttle bus runs twice a day into funchial . Easy to get around with plenty of time to explore . We will be returning in june. Hopefully some show cooked fish and shellfish .

Just close enough in and far enough out of the centre of Funchal, this all Inclusive has a great view of dramatic cliffs and out to sea. Access to the path along the front is so easy via lift. Staff make the atmosphere a positive one. There are also two pool areas with one being a little quieter than the other. The poop bar is very good and food and drink selections are likewise. Our room was a little tired looking and the shower a bit hopeless. The mattress was hard. However, the view from the balcony and the room layout was great. It just the room perhaps needs some rolling tlc. Also, the air con did not seem to extend the bedroom of our family suite. The restaurant food is OK and plentiful, there is choice and quality is good. The only thing is the outside area is too small and the inside feels noisy and a bit like a canteen. There was some work going on to one area (which did not cause any issue and was well managed to a point you didn’t really notice). This may have made the restaurant smaller, hence feeling so busy etc. the use of two à la carte restaurants was a real bonus. The Portuguese one is very popular but staff did not tell us you need to boo v early and so we didn’t get the chance to experience it. Despite whatever negative comments we have made, we really enjoyed our stay, location, pool area and food with the friendly staff still make this a really good hotel. We would definitely go back.
