Situated in front of the spectacular promenade that stretches from Lido to Praia Formosa, the Pestana Promenade offers stunning views to the ocean. The hotel's enviable location is complemented by a great range of facilities including one of the largest pool areas on Madeira.
We booked a pool view room directly with Pestana Promenade for 18 nights with breakfast. They are large rooms but with very poor lighting and very tired looking furniture. The room was situated on the same floor as the pool so we could see the pool but it was barely a pool view as it was obscured by the sunbeds. We had a terrace (not a balcony) with worn fraying rattan furniture and a rodent catching box in the corner. The pool area was always busy so we had to keep curtains closed for privacy. Theres a lack of sockets for charging as at least 3 sockets are used for lamp lighting. The first night we had a problem with the noisy A/C which kept switching itself off throughout the night and would only stay on for a few minutes. We reported this issue to reception and this problem was rectified for most of our time there but did stop working again before we left. The shower had an inconsistent temperature, scolding one minute, cold the next. We repeatedly reported this issue to a point that we got bored as it never got resolved. We had promises of technicians, promises that it had been fixed, more promises of technicians, turns out that these were invisible technicians as we never saw one. I completed an in-house feedback questionnaire on our second day explaining the issue and a manager was supposed to find us and speak to us the following day but this didn't happen. He found us on our 16th day with a sorry offer of a free evening meal with drinks. The customer relations lady asked about our stay at breakfast on our last day and already knew about the shower problem. Apparently the part needed to fix the problem had to be ordered and wouldn't arrive for a few days. Why wasn't this explained on day 2 with an offer of alternative accommodation? We had other annoying problems-The maid in our first week didn't make the beds properly. She would just straighten the duvet over the crumpled bottom sheet. She took our bathrobes without replacing them, she would forget to leave towels, coffee & milk even though we left a note for her. The breakfast was ok but could get very busy as it was a small area with food running out quickly. The breakfast food had very little variation. I would have liked to see some berries in the fruit section. The evening entertainment at the Promenade was virtually none existent with the bar area resembling God's waiting room. After 18 nights here, I was glad to leave & I wont be going back!

We loved this hotel. The staff are all super friendly and very helpful. We were in a room on the ground floor and upon arriving very late asked if we could change. Unfortunately there were no free rooms available but this actually worked on our favour. After staying in the room a couple of days we actually loved being on the ground floor. The room was far enough back from the pool that we had privacy and no one could see into the room from the outside. We were near the restaurant for breakfast and the bar for a drink at night. The room was comfortable and we asked for the single beds to be joined and a mattress topper both of which were dealt with quickly and efficiently. The room was clean and fresh towels were left every day. The bathroom is slightly dated as the shower is over the bath but we didn't find this a problem and our corridor was spotless as were all the areas of the hotel. The hotel has ample sun beds and there is none of this having to get up at silly o clock to get a bed. Happy hour at the bar was real value for money and everything is close by. We will definitely come back which is not something we usually say.
This place is not worth the money and it definitely doesn’t feel like 4 start hotel. horribly dirty corridor carpet, dirty curtains in the room, blinds in the toilet and some smuddered marks behind toilet seat. no hot water in the shower when we arrived late after midnight. Dinner is definitely not worth any money, we only went once despite paying for half board.
