Amazing cleaning first floor Hotel rooftop very good
Overall and enjoyable stay
We booked with Jet2 and had an early morning flight to Madeira only to find when we arrived at the hotel we could not access theroom until 3 pm. The room was fine but definitely not five star as on the board outside the main entrance jet to rated it a I would’ve said a 3 to be honest we had a very enjoyable stay. The only gripe we had was at a breakfast time from 9 am onwards the Sun shown through onto the cold meats and cheese section of the buffet. We did actually mention it to the staff and they said it was chilled from underneath but that did not keep the meat and cheese on top of the piles cool and they should’ve had a blind to pull down or simply moved away from the window. I know it sounds a bit picky but that’s how food poisoning starts.
Superb location badly let down by a tired hotel and indifferent service
I wanted to love this hotel. The position is hard to beat, minutes from Funchal old town, the marina and dozens of restaurants, with great views. Unfortunately almost everything else has let us down on what is a ten night family holiday. Noise is the worst of it. From 6am the doors along the corridor slam so hard it may as well be inside your room, and with thin walls you hear everything next door too. Forget a lie in. The bathroom has mould around the bath. The room and the hotel as a whole feel neglected, as though nothing has been updated in a decade, which for the rating and price is simply not good enough. Dinner at roughly €39 a head excluding drinks is expensive for buffet food when far better value restaurants are on the doorstep. The part that really disappointed me was the service. I raised all of this with guest services by email on day two and they were not interested. No solutions, no follow up, nothing. A hotel at this level should care when a guest flags genuine problems halfway through a long stay, and they clearly did not. Wonderful setting, but until the rooms are refurbished and the team actually engages with guests, I could not recommend it for the money.

Miss 3 stars from the 5 that supposed to have
The Pestana Casino claims to be a five-star hotel, but it is nowhere near that standard. It has a good location, excellent amenities, and beautiful views. However, the rooms are in terrible condition and practically falling apart. The furniture is worn out and damaged, and the bathrooms are uncomfortable, with leaking faucets and very limited space.
Unfortunately, the rooms were horrifying and did not reflect a five-star property at all. While the location, amenities, and views are positives, the poor condition of the rooms seriously affected our experience.

Wonderful holiday
We were a family of four adults holidaying for a week in August. We absolutely loved this island and this hotel. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The hotel is located in the perfect spot, overlooking the sea and adjacent to a wonderful street with excellent authentic restaurants. The rooms are generous proportion and kept clean - granted the bathrooms may need refurb but it didn’t bother us. The public areas are lovely and spotless. Breakfast was excellent they even made my son gluten free pancakes when requested. Also kindly left a bottle of champagne on my birthday in the room which was very kind. All in all one of our best holidays ever and we will return. Thank you.
