Beautiful hotel! Very clean, very well run. Food was delicious, breakfast/dinner buffet was amazing. Very pretty pool area. Lots of bars and restaurants just outside the hotel and only a 20 min walk in to the centre of Funchal, but be prepared for an uphill walk back. I would highly recommend this hotel.
The hotel is a bit dated, but the rooms are very spacious, and the location couldn’t be better. It is within walking distance of the Old Town and many good restaurants in the area.
Breakfast is good, although they could offer a little more variety, as it gets repetitive if you stay for more than three nights. It would also be nice if they opened the outdoor seating area before 8:00 a.m., so guests could have breakfast outside, since breakfast starts at 7:00.
The elevators could also use an upgrade, as they are quite slow, especially the one that takes you down to the Atlantic pool.
That said, the hotel has a wonderful staff member who brightens up the room whenever he walks in: Mr. Manuel Viveiros. He is always cheerful and friendly, and always ready to help. He really made a difference during our stay.

Our room was on the 18th floor with amazing sea views. We had lots of space, a furnished balcony, king size bed, over bath shower, safe, fridge, hairdryer and coffee making facilities. The room was traditionally furnished and very comfortable. Hotel directory/ info can be accessed via qr code. Pool towels are available in the room and replaced along with other towels daily by housekeeping staff.
Breakfast was great. So much choice, delicious food and champagne available daily. Lots of seating both inside and on the balcony. Buffet style open 7am - 11am. We also ate in The Pub at the hotel (see separate review) and the pool bar. All the food we had was very good.
We paid separately to see the ABBA show at the hotel which was very good. This included a three course meal which was delicious plus unlimited beer, wine or soft drinks.
The pool area is lovely with very easy access in to the water. We didn’t have any trouble getting sun beds. The pools are seawater which was not an issue for us. Other pools are available plus direct access in to the sea from a small pier.
The hotel is approx 20 min walk to Funchal town centre. We walked in as all downhill and caught the local bus back for just over 2 € each. You can pay on the bus. The Lido tourist area is left when you come out of the hotel approx 15 min walk past the famous Reid’s Hotel.
We found the hotel to be very clean and peacefully quiet. On the pool level there is a shop, a hairdresser, a library and a place where you can book excursions.
We ate out most lunch times and in the evening. Please see my profile/ other reviews for restaurant recommendations. I strongly advise that you download The Fork App for restaurant bookings and discounts!

We have stayed at this hotel many, many times and we love it. Our son and daughter in law came out and joined us for a few days and they were very impressed with the hotel. They have never visited Madeira before and they think it’s an amazing island. I would agree with the other earlier reviews: the hotel is excellent in every way. The friendly staff cannot do enough to help, the breakfast is amazing, there are always sun beds available, and four pools!!! The hotel has recently been refurbished and they’ve done a wonderful job. It has a lovely fresh feeling with new carpets and furniture. There are so many areas inside and outside the hotel to read a book or just chill out and relax. We will definitely be back!
