The hotel offers transportation to Funchal city, courtesy of the hotels (subject days and time table schedules as per units program, “first come, first served” basis). It's an extraordinary location; backed by cliffs, the hotel is set in stunning gardens, with an impressive pool area leading down to the sea. There are surely no more spectacular hotel settings in Madeira than this.
There are so many talking points: the bay, the cliffs, the gardens and the pool are all fabulous features of this amazing beach resort. Just imagine stepping out into the fragrant gardens, wending your way to the pool and enjoying a swim as you look out over the sea. In keeping with the overall sense of style and place, accommodation at the Pestana Ocean Bay Hotel is exceptional. Again, rooms are uniquely furnished – all very tastefully – giving a real sense of this not being a hotel just like any other. All spacious twin and double bedded seaview rooms have a well-equipped bathroom, balcony and kitchenette with a fridge and kettle. Rooms also feature cable TV radio and telephone. An in room safe is available at a fee payable locally. To make your holiday at the Pestana Bay Ocean Aparthotel that little more special and for a little more luxury you can upgrade your room for a small supplement to a Junior Suite.
As well as the spectacular outdoor pool, you'll certainly want to try the whirlpool and fitness room with its fabulous combination of sauna and Turkish bath. We recommend adding a massage to your treatment regime too – it is, after all, time to take it easy and really relax.
With a games room, two bars and the restaurant (which is well worth checking out) you really will have everything you need for a fantastic stay and a taste of the best that Madeira has to offer.

The Pestana Ocean Bay directly overlooks the ocean in a peaceful location just three miles to the west of Funchal. Classified as a beach resort, the hotel is on the beautiful bay of Praia Formosa backed by cliffs. The tranquil gardens contain a spectacularly situated pool area and give direct access to the sea.
Check in- Easy book in, reception staff helpful and friendly. Room - Lovely and spacious, twin beds pushed together to make double. Bathroom was shower in bath, not our preference a little cramped when showering. No air conditioning only ceiling fan, unbearable at night. Housekeeping hit and miss, came at 17.50 one day and we turned them away as we were in the room after a lovely day out. Lots of plug sockets, TV good variety of options. Sea view breathtaking. Food-Terrible for four star. Very repetitive, shocking cookery, tough meat. Salad bar same old same very little choice. Breakfast lacked choice or variety some days boiled cauliflower and broccoli not sure if that was just an attempt to fill a gap on the hot plate. Overall very disappointing, definitely not four star. Drinks- one bar and the rest was serve yourself, tea, coffee, Pepsi, water, beer and wine. Entertainment- Not so good, live singers most nights, more like karaoke singers. Location- absolutely lovely, access to beach, walked to Funchal Town very long walk and quite a few very steep hills to contend with. Staff- Waiters unfriendly, no response to greetings, very little service interactions. Entertainment team ok. Reception always helpful, housekeeping no interactions when greeted. Lovely friendly hotel with great staff. Two lovely pools. Food mostly good and very clean around the serving stations. Lovely hardworking Manuela in the restaurant and cheeky Rana at the bar we got on so well with. No air con in our suite. Hotel bit out of town and nothing around. Bit of a trek up to shops and main road. Went to Ritz dinner show on Saturday night excellent night out. 3course meal fillet steak or fish for main, free wine, beer or soft drinks, show and then DJ and dancing till 11pm. Used Ubers on my English App.
Enjoyed a lovely week away with girlfriends... Hotel in a lovely setting you can walk to some shops through a tunnel however very steep walk!! A few bars along promenade the other way. Only real disappointment was no air con in room or anywhere in the hotel so very warm when having our meals and during entertainment. Must mention Manuela she was amazing she worked so hard in the restaurant and very friendly she even went on the stage during her shift to join in the dancing!! All staff seemed friendly ...our friendly barman Rana!! Pools were lovely and no problem getting sunbeds.
A great location on the beach. Nearly every room has a sea view. In the middle of the coastal promenade footpath which goes in both directions. Very warm welcome, very relaxed atmosphere and wonderful friendly staff. Room was spacious and comfortable and relaxing. Although the hotel is not new, it has been really well maintained, and is far more easy- going and relaxing than others. The food is buffet style, with a huge choice of different, constantly changing options. There is a lot of outside seating with sea view, and interior seating. Overall, if you are looking for a great hotel without the formality, choose this one!
Location is great very quiet and relaxing rooms great view clean and tidy good value for money was greeted with wine and cake when checked in
