We stayed at NEXT Savoy Signature Funchal for 4 nights and booked a 2-bedroom apartment.
The apartment itself was decent, but it was located in a separate building next to the main hotel. Our apartment was on the 5th floor, and there was no straightforward access, which made getting in and out quite difficult, especially with luggage.
Breakfast was okay, but nothing special and not quite what we expected from a hotel like this. The parking layout was also very tight and poorly structured. Unfortunately, someone hit our rental car while it was parked there, which resulted in us having to deal with the rental car deposit/damage charges.
On the positive side, the hotel gives a €25 daily voucher to spend at the hotel, which was a really nice benefit and something we appreciated.
Housekeeping could definitely be improved. On some days, the towels weren't replaced, and we felt the apartment wasn't cleaned properly.
Overall, it was an okay experience. There are some good aspects, particularly the daily voucher, but considering the access to the apartment, parking situation, average breakfast and inconsistent housekeeping, we expected a better stay.
Brilliant location with an amazing ocean view suite and great service and we shall be back
There arent enough words to express how wonderful this hotel and it's staff is! The hotel is wonderful and its facilities amazing, from the rooftop bar to the beach and swimming pool area with its restaurant. Next to the ocean with great view and very well located to walk to the city center. The staff deserve also a classification on their own, 6 stars! We did have a different room than the one expected and their dedication to solve it promptly and exchange us the room was superb. All of them were just brilliant. Confess it was way over what we expected and hope to return next time we are in Madeira! The only thing worth mentioning was the glass on the bathroom wall always lighted the room and would wake anyone with lightsleep. Anyway we still think its a 5 star hotel!
We have just spent a week here and loved everything about this hotel. Room was spacious and comfortable. One review mentions pillows they were a bit soft but you can ask to change them. Staff couldn’t do enough to help. We loved the breakfast. Yes coffee from a machine but 2 espressos and milk made a good cup for us. You could also ask for omelettes or different eggs. We thought it was a lovely breakfast and loved the cake selection. We had a high room facing the ocean and loved it. Just a standard room not a suite but we liked this as spent very little time in the room. Location was wonderful - a walk to the old town and cable car about 20mins. But also great restaurants in the streets around the hotel. We absolutely loved the sea access and swimming in the sea and snorkelling. We saw so many fish - definitely take a mask. All food and drink we had were great. Particularly the tuna steak sandwich. We also had the yakatori in the roof top bar and it was amazing. Staff all friendly and helpful. Just can’t fault this hotel. Would recommend an ocean view room also try the yakatori. One thing too only a combined hair and shower gel in the bathroom so advisable to take your own products. Only thing I guess is may have been good to have separate shampoo, conditioner and shower gel if giving any feedback to the hotel. The hotel is surrounded by others in the group but still felt quiet and private. I would recommend just asking staff if you need anything extra or something not quite right as they are super helpful and will resolve anything for you quickly. We feel sad to be leaving the hotel has been all that we needed in Madeira. Overall we had a wonderful stay and if I was returning to Madeira I would definitely stay here again.
The pictures lie a lot. The first picture you see on booking . Com, being at sea level and a lovely swim out pool is a lie. Please look at my pictures in this review to show exactly where the hotel is situated and you can see the pool that’s across the road in a separate building. Please check the picture I have uploaded on the pool the NEXT hotelier about. If you zoom in you’ll see the pool at sea level. The NEXT savoy hotel is set further back inland around 10 minute walk and there is a massive main road in from of the hotel, then another savoy hotel before you reach the sea (this is the hotel in see in the pictures not the NEXT savoy) the continuous sound of delivery Lorries and street cleaners was unbearable. The balconies give you a blind spot view of only half your initial view because there is a great big wall either side of your balcony. The hotel manager said “we don’t like to talk to people, because people don’t like to talk these days” and then he handed us a pair a rubber ducks. Just weird. The staff are very antisocial apart from Nina and Jess. The surfaces are all black in the room and shiny so you can’t see your things. Including the area you make tea and coffee. It’s pitch black. The bedroom and bathroom lights are so so bad, you can forget about shaving your face and make up. There is one draw in the whole room to put things. One hanging rail with all the clothes exposed it’s awful. Rooms are not sound proof and people upstairs can be heard very loudly. The dragging of the extremely chairs and tables as the room is mainly hard flooring. The whole hotel is loud 24/7. No aircon in common areas, air con goes off in the rooms when you open any door, meaning when you leave your room for the day the aircon automatically disables. You come back to a boiling hot room. The breakfast tasteless, plain and again a dark room, I can’t see what I’m eating. I asked for a omelette to be made upon request and it was made within the microwave. The jam was like water, no texture and tasteless. The orange juice is not fresh and it tasted worse than a very cheap dilute Version. Nothing had effort. The hotel manager seems to think he caters for a young demographic but actually I saw mainly 50 plus. I can tell you now it’s not what they expected. It’s a soulless hotel that caters for it seems all ages including kids but they wrote a lot of sexual wording everywhere in the elevators and common areas. Strange
