SITUATED ON A SPECTACULAR SITE, IN THE WEST HILLSIDE OF FUNCHAL, WITH SUPERB VIEWS OF THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, THE BAY AND MAGNIFICENT MOUNTAINS.
We had a wonderful weeks stay at this lovely hotel! We had arrived after the buffet restaurant had closed but the lovely man on reception quickly organised for us to have a 3 course meal at the a la carte restaurant which was absolutely delicious and very welcome after travelling all day.
Afterward our meal we went to our room and were very pleased. It was spotlessly clean and spacious. As it was a special occasion my husband had arranged for sparkling wine and a fruit platter and it was there waiting for us!
Our view from our balcony was just stunning! A wonderful vista of Funchal and the mountains.
Regarding the previous review about the 'noise' please ignore it! The 'noise' was a local festival and it was lovely to sit on our balcony and listen to it. It did finish at midnight but if you did want to go to bed earlier once you had shut the balcony doors and turned on the air conditioning you couldn't hear anything! It was only on over the weekend anyway. And the band was the evening entertainment that finished at 10pm!!
We were half board and thought the breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice and the evening meal was also excellent.
There is a beautiful outside terrace to enjoy your meals if the weather is nice (it was very hot while we were there!) again with stunning views.
All the staff were so nice. They all work so hard and are so friendly and cheerful. A special mention to Helena and Raquel who were amazing. Also the female maitre de who I didn't get her name. But a big thankyou to all the staff for helping in making it such a special holiday.
There is a small supermarket a 10 minute walk up the hill which was useful for snacks and the hotel shuttle bus was easy to use with the drop off/pick up outside the CR7 museum.
We did use Bolt taxis to get around too which was quick and easy.
The pool area is lovely and there was always free sunbeds.
We loved this hotel! As its name implies it has the most amazing views and we enjoyed being just slightly outside the hustle and bustle of Funchal. It was QUIET, peaceful and totally relaxing!
Having booked a room with a sea view I hoped to relax in the evening on my balcony with a book. The last three nights I have been bombarded a noise which is indescribable un til midnight from a festival in a very close vicinity, tonight. Monday we have a band performing directly beneath our balcony, bear this In mind if you consider booking this hotel!
Fantastic hotel in great location. This was a great choice for us - smallish hotel with stunning views from the dining terraced area across Funchal and out to the coastline. The staff were friendly, cheerful and very helpful. The hotel was very clean. And the food was good quality - we booked bed and breakfast as we normally do, but if I had known how good the hotel buffet was going to be I’d have booked half board. Maybe past experience has given me low expectations of hotel buffets. The pool area was relatively small but enough for the number of guests using it and they had a system of guests being provided with a towel for the pool area which they could exchange for a clean one from the pool bar in the morning. A free shuttle bus was available to take people into the city if pre-booked the day before.
Only minor negatives (but still giving it 5 stars): we were a bit put out that we had to wait an hour for our rooms to be ready after being up at 3am for our early morning flight. We were encouraged to sit by the pool when we were wearing the clothes we’d spend a day travelling in (so remained indoors to wait). Some aspects of the rooms appeared a little tired and dated but everything still in working order. The hotel is up a hill and a 40 minute walk from the city centre, so would not recommend it as somewhere to stay for anyone with mobility issues if they didn’t want to rely on the shuttle bus.
We stayed in two separate family rooms with a sea view. The hotel was fantastic. The staff were polite and helpful and the atmosphere was very relaxed. The location is a bit out of the main tourist areas and the nearest shop is a decent walk away, however the hotel offers a shuttle bus regularly into the centre which is a great idea. This needs to be booked in advance. The view from our room was amazing and even better at night when you can see all the lights on the hillside. The only negative was the room decor, I would say they need a refresh especially the bathroom however they are spotlessly clean and the maid service is great. The best part of the hotel is the buffet service at breakfast and dinner. The variety is really good and they change the menu every day for dinner. The restaurant staff work really hard and ensure that the tables are kept clean and tidy. A special mention to Sonia who was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The omelettes at breakfast are brilliant! The evening entertainment was good and offered different musical styles to suit all tastes. The pool is lovely although a bit small, we never struggled to get a sun bed and the atmosphere was great. The food at the pool bar is good and the drinks are reasonably priced. We also used the squash courts a few times which was a nice change of pace.
We would have no hesitation in coming back to this great hotel. Thanks for a great holiday.
Great hotel possibly a little dated but that's the only negative. Lovely and clean, nice breakfast great facilities and friendly staff. Had a lovely view from the balcony. Free bus service was great. Lots of restaurants nearby and a nice sandy beach about 4km walk through the tunnel. Hope we get to stay again. Thank you for a lovely holiday.
