Hotel was built in 1997 and its furnishing is consistent and authentic. It was perfect for us, ideally placed near the Forum Shopping Centre with its excellent supermarket, bars, restaurants and the usual fashion retailers. The rooms are large, with Kitchenette, fridge, kettle, 2 ring hob etc. It is kept spotlessly clean, and its amenities are top class. The pool areas and gardens are fabulous with plenty of loungers and towels provided. These areas and spa are open 8 am to 8 pm with staff on hand to supply towels and parasols. The staff in all areas are excellent, knowledgeable and helpful. Great choices for breakfast and the coffee was lovely. Again restaurant is spotless and staff on hand all the times. Funchal is about 4 km, an easy walk on the main route or catch a bus at the bottom of the road. We bought a flex card (50cents) (buy from a PAYG shop and load it with the number of journeys you want which saves you 50c on every journey). You can also walk down along the headland to Funchal which gives a fabulous panoramic view but is more hilly. Praia Formosa beach is a short walk through headland caves and then you hit the black beach, with bars along the boardwalk. From here you can walk onto the beautiful Câmara de Lobos which is about 5 km away with its unspoilt harbour and lovely restaurants. We had a fabulous stay here, we also went on a few tours which again picked up from the stop across the road so very straightforward. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel and would certainly return.
Been coming to this hotel for years we have a long stay each time. Came 3rd Jan to the 28th of February yes it needs updating but the staff are amazing. They are 5 star staff in a 3/4 star hotel. Very hard working and do their very best with what they have. It is in an amazing location right by public transport they do a brilliant New Year Gala meal then you go watch fireworks from the roof it’s outstanding. We absolutely love it and are a very well traveled couple who have had many worldwide holidays but always come back. The hotel is always full so that must tell you something. It is inexpensive to stay. We will be back.
Firstly, yes the hotel could do with a refresh but it is functional and has everything we needed for our holiday base as we explored the island.
The staff were all (except one lady) friendly, polite and helpful and we were able to ask any questions needed through our stay e.g. car parking situation, safe key , directions. The poolside staff even brought a little swimming aid for our daughter during an afternoon in the pool.
The little cafe by the pool is okay and you can get a light lunch and drinks. The pools (inside and out) were both nice and very quiet during our stay so no issues with getting sunbeds on the afternoons we used them.
Breakfast had a good selection of options for everyone and plenty of tables. My daughter was determined to try everything through our trip!
Our suite was well suited for us (3) although the air-conditioning didnt work in the bedroom. The kitchen area with fridge was handy for the lunch bits we took out with us daily. Beds were comfy and with the room facing towards the pool we had no issue with road noise.
If you are thinking of booking this hotel, give it a miss. The staff are friendly and at first glance it looks OK. But look a little deeper. There should be 4 lifts but only 1 works. Our room on the 7th floor had cockroaches running round the room. Told reception but nothing got done. Later in our stay found cockroaches in the main lobby by the 1 and only operating lift. It is nicer round the pool and gardens.
Hotel is fantastic. Pool staff are lovely and the pool areas are very clean, you’re provided with towels supplied from the hotel itself (no need to bring your own).
Breakfast was great, lots of variety like fruits, breads, cereals, hot drinks, juices etc…breakfast staff were very friendly and efficient.
Room itself is lovely. Comfy bed, nice, clean bathroom, small kitchen area has lots of plates, cups, cutlery etc which is handy. Great view from the balcony which overlooks the pool/garden area and sea!
The bars in the hotel could have more variety with drinks…especially with cocktails.
The lifts are very dodgy, one was out of order the entire time we stayed and the one working kept stopping and starting and kept stopping on random floors.
The plugs next to the bed were nearly coming out of the wall and would give us an electric shock but still worked. The aircon in the bedroom didn’t work however it worked in the kitchen/sitting area which still cooled down the room but still should be fixed. The freezer in the room did not work. We had icecream in there for 4+ days and they were not frozen, just liquid.
Overall great hotel, few things should be fixed but would recommend others to stay here! ☀️
