Hotel Madeira Regency Cliff

If you want a base for exploring Madeira that is quite with nothing going on in the hotel, then this is ideal. The views from the hotel are wonderful. There is noise during the day, as there is a public access area outside the back of the hotel. This didn’t bother us at all. The breakfast is adequate but we found it repetitive. No omelette station, as previously mentioned by others. The staff are generally nice, but many of them seemed miserable. This hotel has no atmosphere at all. It’s such a shame, as it has a lot of potential. The drink prices are double what you pay elsewhere, so maybe this is a factor. We only witnessed two couples drinking in the bar, in the 11 nights we were there. The only people eating in the evening seemed to be half board. The buffet evening meal wasn’t great according to people we spoke to. I would recommend booking B&B. There is a courtesy vehicle that runs too and from Funchal a couple of times a day. Busses run from outside. We used Uber a lot, which are reasonably priced. We did a west of Madeira tour, which was good. Booked through the GetYourGuide app. Cable car and botanical gardens are worth a visit. Eating out - use the ‘Thefork’ app to book restaurants. Some of them do discounts. The best one we found as Martucci with 50% off food. Avoid the Thai Funchal & grill. Câmara De Lobos is worth a visit. We had a meal at Pier One, but you must book before you go, as they were turning people away. Alforno Italian restaurant nearby is amazing, I had the pizza which was lovely. Loft is meant to be good during the day. Hoyo Hoyo flavours of Mozambique very good. There is a cafe just outside the Forum shopping centre which is good for daytime snacks. Supermarket inside has everything. Get your water from there as the hotel charges €2.50 for bottles of water. We didn’t use the safe as that’s an extra cost. The hole in one is worth a visit. The restaurant next door, Chalet Vincente, was being refurbished but was recommended to us by friends.

This is a lovely, quiet, clean, adults only hotel. We were half board - breakfasts were good but evening meal left a lot to be desired. If we went again would definitely only do bed and breakfast. There were very few residents who were having evening meal which is telling. Small pool which is fine for a dip but not really for any swimming. Not many sunbeds, would help if people weren't allowed to reserve. Did not really agree with service charge for drinks with evening meal and fell into the trap of paying for water which we thought was just tap water! Courtesy bus into Funchal but a decent walk if preferred. Would go again.
