Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
Located on the western side of Funchal with views over the city and bay, the Dorisol Estrelícia has a reputation for comfort and friendly service. It shares facilities with the Dorisol Mimosa next door. Although in a peaceful location, the varied delights of Funchal are readily accessible. Within a few minutes walk is the sea and Lido complex with its large seawater swimming pool.
The positive was that it was a large room with a large balcony and the shower had very good water pressure. The room was a suite with two twin beds pushed together to make a double bed in the main room and a single twin in a separate room with a door. Everything else was a negative. The hotel does not have A/C in the rooms or public areas. The room had a very small ceiling fan that was less than 1 meter in diameter and did not go fast so it had a minimal cooling effect. the single room with a twin bed did not have a fan at all. There was only 1 outlet for the entire room, and the single room did not have any outlets at all. The shower faucet had rust and the handle broke off, so I was unable to turn on the shower. The room included breakfast and dinner. It did not include drinks of any kind, as wine, soft drinks and water bottles were extra. The food was served in a buffet and was also bad. The scrambled eggs at breakfast were rubbery and the fried eggs were overcooked with powdery yolks, the chicken at dinner was overcooked and dry. The fish served was rubbery. The potatoes at breakfast and dinner were under seasoned and under salted. The mozzarella cheese at breakfast was mushy and not firm. The rice at dinner and in the rice pudding was overcooked and mushy. The breakfast orange juice was canned concentrate, not freshly squeezed. The coffee was powdered espresso, not freshly ground. The WiFi is slow with spotty coverage
The hotel was clean and although dated was ok for one night. Had I not been travelling g with my disabled husband for any able bodied person the place would have been super. Friendly staff, lightly entertainment good food and in our case a great breakfast. The bedroom was clean though the sound of the other guests could be heard due to the doors being opened and closed frequently. The bed was comfortable and the fan was a welcome surprise due to the hot weather. The bathroom would have been super had my husband not be disabled but as he is the showering was difficult as was using the toilet. The door entrance was narrow so he couldn’t get in the bathroom without crawling in. In the public areas there were steps to most public areas so it was difficult to see some of the public spaces. Food was generous, tasty and good value. We booked b&b and felt it was really good value for money. Thank you to all the staff they were friendly and efficient.
Basic hotel, a cleaner stole €20 from a toiletry bag.
Excellent value hotel , great breakfast and dinner …. Great indoor pool and outdoor pool with clean indoor sauna and srea
Our stay was OK but nothing special here. Rooms are clean. Don’t have your dinner at the buffet: it’s like a zoo, people go crazy around and food is not good at all. Don’t waste your time and money there. Breakfast is also a buffet, a zoo, food isn’t better and on top of that, coffee is undrinkable!
