This is a quite exceptional hotel in a perfect location. It is worthy of a 5 star review in every respect - the sheer quality of the rooms, the cleanliness, the food, the facilities… everything. The most important category of all is the staff and they are truly outstanding. They take customer service and hospitality to another level because they quite obviously care and are very clearly part of a family run hotel that looks after its staff and its guests. Come for all the great qualities the Castanheiro has - and stay to be genuinely looked after. It’s the best.
Great location, great pool, great spa, great rooms, great brekfast, amazing staff, this is one of the best hotels I have stayed in, ideal location for the centre of the city. Will be back in 2027 without a doubt
We could not believe our luck on choosing this hotel through Jet2 holidays. Walking distance of all Funchal has to offer but off the beaten track, a small oasis of calm.
Literally everything was wonderful throughout our week. Our room was modern, large and spotlessly clean. Every need was met, before we had even thought about it.
The roof pool, terrace and bar area was an added bonus which we enjoyed most afternoons. Bar service was excellent.
The spa is definitely worth a visit with sauna, steam room and pool. The massage I had was one of the best I’ve ever had.
We selected half board for the week and the half board menu was outstanding. Every evening was a gourmet adventure. We had planned to eat out a couple of times but became fearful of missing out on what chef had in store for us.
Customer service from all members of staff was top level.

Fantastic location. Very friendly staff, delicious food. Only downside were the lack of aircon in the gym and no iron and iron board. The hotel would have been 5 stars for me except for those issues 😊
A beautiful boutique hotel just off the beaten path but perfect for a short walk into Funchal itself and to all the amenities. The staff were very good and the housekeeping were excellent. The meet & greet evening could have done with a little more management presence to welcome all of the guests for the 30 mins. The themed evenings were good. Room was spacious and had everything you could need. Occasional noise from the service elevator but otherwise a very quiet hotel and location. The spa was a nice addition and would be used more if better serviced in the pool area with an option for drinks and a little extra service. Overall an great hotel and staff. Would definitely recommend
