- Pestana Vila Sol Golf and Resort Hotel

This contemporary style luxury hotel is ideal for golf enthusiasts, just a few steps from and overlooking the world-renowned 27-hole golf course of Vila Sol, designed by British architect Donald Steel. Several other golf courses are within easy reach, Vilamoura with its elegant marina and the casino is just a few minutes by car. The international airport of Faro can be reached within a short drive.
While the golfer in the family is out on the course, try one of the other recreational amenities offered, such as outdoor tennis courts or an outdoor pool. This resort also features complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and an arcade/games room.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The hotel is ok in places, breakfast and pool bar / pools are decent and location is ok (quiet area).
The staff here do not care about their guests - on check in staff were unhelpful and rooms weren’t ready till really late in the day (we were told any time after 3pm… emphasis on ANY time, could be midnight for all they care).
The door to our bedroom was broken and had a mouse come into the kids bedroom in the night. Kids had to sleep in our bed and hotel had to find mouse and do emergency fix to door (no offer to move us).
Came back from lunch on one day to find the cleaners had left our room door open with all our valuables on display.
Sockets dangerously exposed in kids room.
All reported to hotel and the staff did not care at all - no meaningful apologies.
Beautiful grounds.. a bit out from the marina area so you would need a car (or uber) to see any nightlife. Golfers will be happy here.
Air con in the room is good. rooms are pretty and well presented. Each room has a fridge with two complimentary bottles of water.
Breakfast was plentiful with even alcohol being served. The omelette bar was average.
My biggest gripe - sat by the pool, minding my own business drinking a can of 7up I had bought from outside and being told that you can only consume drinks from their bar (7 euro for a drink!) - Which is the most ridiculous rule I have ever heard- especially considering how much I have spent for the room. Never heard such nonsense.
Just returned home from a long weekend with a friend. Overall I’d say the hotel was okay, seemed understaffed at times which is a shame. Struggle to see how this is registered as a 5*?
The room we had was okay, tired in places and lots of wear and tear marks about, a large number of slabs around the pool area and surrounding were loose and a trip hazard.
Pool and bar staff were great, very friendly and food was fine. Breakfast was good, offering lots of selections.
A few more staff members, a better pool area and some updates in the rooms and this had the making of a great hotel.
Excellent hotel, all the staff were very friendly and engaging, great facilities, the food and rooms were very good . Very good value for a high standard hotel/holiday experience with the added bonus of been very well located for a short trip into Vilamoura. Would highly recommend this hotel for families or couples.
I’ve been visiting Vilamoura for years and was excited to try Pestana Vila Sol for the first time. Unfortunately, our 10-night stay got off to a very poor start.
We booked a Classic Garden Room, which is advertised on Pestana’s own website as including a terrace. Our room, however, had no terrace at all (photos attached). When our travel partner raised this with hotel administration, our concern was dismissed, which added insult to injury and cast a shadow over the whole trip. The hotel insists the room matches the description, but it clearly does not. It’s unacceptable that guests paying the same rate receive such different outdoor spaces: many Classic Garden rooms do have proper terraces as advertised, which directly contradicts the hotel’s position. Reception staff were understanding and seemed aware this is a recurring issue, yet no solution or compensation was offered for what amounts to misleading advertising.
On the positive side, the hotel staff throughout were very polite. Housekeeping visited regularly to replace towels and toiletries. The breakfast and bar teams deserve special mention: they were consistently enthusiastic and welcoming. The Prime Bar offers happy hour from 8–9pm, plus a pool DJ on Tuesdays and Saturdays, which is a nice touch. The pool areas have plenty of sun loungers and fresh towels are always available.
Breakfast is served in an attractive setting with swans and ducks in the background. The selection is decent, with pastries, cold meats, coffee, and fruit.
The grounds are large and pleasant to walk around, though some areas clearly need more upkeep. Both pools have green algae around the edges, and the sauna is water-damaged and rotting along the bottom. The far end of the hotel receives little sunlight and looks onto a dry wooded area; if your room faces this way, you’re likely to be disappointed.
What frustrates me most is that the issues I’ve raised have been mentioned by many previous guests. The hotel’s responses read as generic, with little evidence of action being taken as a result.
Location-wise, the hotel is about a 10-minute drive from the Marina, so a car is recommended. There is free parking outside the hotel, which is useful. Uber rides to the Marina cost around £6 each way.
Overall, Pestana Vila Sol has real potential to be a true 5* property, but I struggle to see how it can justify that rating without further reinvestment in the grounds and facilities. Room allocation within the same category feels like luck of the draw: some guests get nice sitting areas with good views, while others (like us) receive a room with no outdoor space and a view onto poorly maintained bushes. Our room felt more like a 3* product, and the lack of any area to dry wet clothes and towels was especially disappointing for a 10-night stay at this price point. We raised the issue with reception and our travel partner; all agreed the website is misleading, yet the hotel failed to address it or even speak to me directly. I will definitely return to Vilamoura, but after this experience I will not be returning to Pestana. There are far better options in the same price range.
