This excellent and luxurious “pousada” sits in a historical and interesting building that was erected on the sixteenth century and served as a convent. The property is conveniently positioned in the historical city centre, within easy reach from the main important sightseeing points of interest such as Santa Maria Church, a few steps away. Staying at this accommodation option will always be a great experience, as some of the bedrooms have been completely refurbished from cells, exuding a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. All of them offer modern amenities for a truly pleasant stay, including air-conditioning, wireless Internet connection to keep updated and a safe. During their stay, visitors may pamper themselves at the on-site facilities, with the possibility to rest at the spa with a massage and to taste mouth-watering local dishes of the Algarve region made with fresh produce.
Enjoy recreation amenities such as an outdoor pool or take in the view from a garden. This hotel also features complimentary wireless Internet access, concierge services and gift shops/newsstands.
Due to the surrounding area and the number of steps around the hotel, it may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
The perfect hotel for a relaxing break. The location just on the edge of the old town made for (relatively) easy walking into Tavira. All of the main sites are within easy walking distance - being mullion of the cobbles of course. Our room was comfortable with a walk in shower and small balcony - just what we needed. The housekeeping team were tremendous with everything spick and span. The pool is brilliant with plenty of loungers and it was also incredibly quiet - with guests reading playing backgammon or simply relaxing in the warm sunshine. Loved the breakfast too. There is some archaeological work in the courtyard just now and although the staff worked around the issue with ease - its fair to say we would look forward to returning to appreciate the Pousada in all space and glory. Finally the staff team were exceptional from our arrival, to breakfast, to the bar and evening meal. Real hospitality in action from all of them - thank you to Christiana, Tatiana, Ana, Elton, Paul, John, Alexandre and everyone else - total stars.
Lovely hotel and wonderful staff
Wonderful 5 star hotel in great location. Everything immaculate. Lovely pool. The best breakfast buffet. Exceptional service
If you are thinking of coming here… DON’T. Major work at this hotel that they will not tell you about. We had the right to cancel and had we known about the work which has had a material impact on our stay, we would not have come. 50% of the facilities out of use. Hoardings within a metre of eating breakfast. No where nice to sit outside in the courtyard for a drink, a courtyard that the hotel sells a focal point. And their answer?.. a 15% discount. Shocking. An established business like this should advise guests in advance if disruptive work is planned and give the guest a choice to come or not. It’s how things are put right in this situation that matters and an insulting 15% discount is not good enough. Minor in the scheme of things but worth pointing out: hotel insisted on booking a great restaurant for us… we turned up at the restaurant and they hadn’t. Coffee machine in room broken. No proper ironing board to iron your clothes. Needless to say won’t return and won’t use the Pestana chain of hotels again.
Stunning historical hotel with a lovely ambience! Room was great and location was excellent! Good value for the high standard of hotel it is!
