Centrally located in the picturesque town of Tavira, this hotel is just a few minutes from the shopping facilities, restaurants, bars, pubs and nightclubs of the centre. Attractions such as Tavira Castle, the Roman Bridge, Praça da República or Misericórdia Church are within easy reach, Ria Formosa Natural Park is about 16 kilometres away. The train station can be reached within a 15-minute walk.
In the south-facing garden, guests can enjoy the sun that warms the pool's fresh water and, at the same time, light the historic scenary and the landscapes around. Enjoy a snack or beverage at the hotel's pool bar. In the restaurants, it is possible to taste several delicious dishes prepared and, after that, it is possible to enjoy a beautiful view over Tavira's city in a local pub. There is a main restaurants as well as a rooftop restaurant and bar. Guests will be seduced by the mystique location of this charming Hotel.

Highly Recommended Hotel
Superb hotel and would highly recommend. Check in was welcoming ,quick & efficient and despite arriving early our room was ready . We were offered a welcoming glass of wine and help with our luggage while features of the hotel were explained . Room was extremely comfortable with a lovely pool view -plenty of storage space ,iron & ironing board ,powerful hairdryer ,good mirror ,plenty well appointed sockets ,a kettle and supplies of tea & coffee, good air conditioning , mini fridge ,great comfy beds (usual European 2 singes together style ) quality linens and great pillows ,large walk in shower in the bathroom with fluffy white towels & toiletries supplied ,good sized sunny balcony with 2 chairs ,table & clothes dryer rack . Hotel was spotlessly clean and well maintained throughout . We stayed on a B&B basis -excellent choices for breakfast available on a self service with a super long breakfast timeframe and opportunity to have something delivered to your room the evening before if you have a very early departure time ( ask at reception ) . Nice pool area with plenty of sunbeds,parasoles & bar serving hot /cold drinks & food from around 11 am -6PM . Towels for the pool are available to hire from the reception and deposit is refunded on their return . The rooftop terrace /restaurant is open in the evenings for drinks & food & has live music till around 11.30 /midnight . The hotel also has a fitness suite & spa but we didn't use these on our week long stay . The staff in this hotel are fantastic -reception staff are really knowledgeable and will give you advice on places to visit /timetables/restaurants /shopping ....housekeeping staff keep the place spotlessly clean & tidy ,restaurant /bar staff are just great . On our departure we were given a really nice bottle of wine as a thank you for staying. What more can I say -such a great hotel with such lovely staff . My only caution is that the hotel is on a hill - absolutely fine for us walking for a few minutes down to the riverside /square .....but in the heat if the day it can be a challenge on the way up ! ....in which case get a taxi !!!....

Great Atmosphere and Location — A Few Tweaks Would Make It Perfect
I recently stayed at the AP Maria Nova Lounge Hotel and overall had an enjoyable visit. The location is excellent, with just a short walk into Tavira’s centre and the hotel has a modern, relaxed atmosphere. The room was spacious, comfortable and very clean, with a lovely balcony view over the pool area. Breakfast was by far the highlight as the choice was exceptional and the piano player was superb. We only visited the rooftop bar twice which was very pleasant.
There were, however, a few issues that affected my stay. The shower area in my room was extremely slippy, and without any bath mats available, it felt genuinely dangerous. This is something the hotel should address for guest safety. I also found the pool etiquette disappointing. Although the hotel states that reserving sun loungers with towels is not allowed, this rule was ignored by many guests. As a result, there were several days when I couldn’t get a lounger at all, which was frustrating.
The food at the pool bar was another downside. The pizzas were clearly frozen, which was very disappointing and not up to the standard I expected from a Four Star hotel of this level.
Overall, the hotel has many positives, stylish spaces, friendly staff and a great location but the above issues did take away from the experience. Addressing them would make a big difference for future guests.
2 week stay
We’ve just had a lovely 2 weeks stay here and cannot praise the staff enough, everyone from breakfast to the roof top bar staff were so friendly and helpful. We had the luxury of staying in a suite for half of our stay and would highly recommend the upgrade. Yes the hotel is a little tired looking but it’s the service which is 5stars! We would definitely return here. The area is lovely, and the reviews of being on a hill, it’s not that bad. It’s close to the centre. We had no disruption from building work. We’ve throughly enjoyed our holiday.
Great spot in town with a lovely pool
We stayed for 7 nights in a basic room, 1st floor - it was 36 degrees or above every day...the aircon was fab! Nice clean room and bathroom with decent shower and hairdryer. Plug in the sink didn't work though. Comfortable twin beds. Very little noise from other rooms or corridors. Most of the guests are English or Irish and all the staff spoke English.
Balcony had a table and chairs but we didn't make use of it. Too hot and no view. Had a great pull out clothes dryer, ideal for towels, swimwear etc.
The breakfast buffet was good with lots of choice and a live piano player! The mini Pastel de nata were to die for! To on every day though :(
We only visited the roof top bar once, great views and decent priced cocktails.
Loved the swimming pool, deep in most parts so this might not suit everyone. Never had a problem getting a sunbed although it was full up by 9.30. Pools towels are available from reception with a 10 euro deposit. Save the extra weight in your baggage. The two entry points either side of the bar need a hand rail. Saw a few more elderly guests struggling to get in.
Prices at the pool bar were good for a hotel bar. Super Bock lager (5 euros) and Somersby cider (6.50 euros) on tap. We opened a tab and paid at the end of the holiday.
5 mins walk into town for bars / restaurants. although it is uphill on the way back.
It was my birthday during our stay. We didn't tell the hotel, but they must have noticed the date on my passport and we got a bottle of sparkling wine and cake in the room. A lovely touch. we were also given a bottle of wine on departure. This is for any guest that stay more than 5 nights.

Disappointing
Arrived 13-30 9th June, told room ready 14-00, offered glass of wine whilst waiting. Room ready 14-00, 1st floor, room 130, pool view as requested. Twin beds pushed together, large mattress, hanging space, shelves, no drawers, free safe, small fridge not efficient (leave cupboard door to fridge open to cool), bathroom small, shower tray extremely slippy, needed shower mat to stop slipping but used small towel to stand on. Towels hard and thin although changed daily, cleaning hit and miss, bedding changed every 2/3 days, balcony small. Free Wi-Fi. Used restaurant 1st evening, very disappointing, salad, cheese, meats, but "cooked food " pork, fish, vegetables were cold/luke warm, appeared overcooked and dry, maybe because left standing to long. Priced at €29 euros each and €18 euros bottle of wine, €76 euros extremely pricey. Buffet breakfast, "full English/cooked food " only luke warm, again left standing became dry and cold. Cereals, yoghurt, cheeses, hams, fruits, toast, juice, coffee/tea. Pool area needs urgent attention. Some sunbeds have been replaced but many others need replacing, flags/walking area is very uneven, flags either broken or lifting and "weeds " growth between each flag, Major problem with pigeons, flying down to drink, pigeon poo side of pool and dropping into the pool. Pool bar for drinks and food, drinks expensive, food priced similar to UK prices. Roof top bar has views over Tavira but again price of drinks high. Also a private function one weekend closed it down to clients (although pool bar remained open) Weekend's the hotel gets very busy with locals staying. Hotel based at top of a hill, walk down into town for lovely choice of restaurants, reasonably priced but can get extremely busy and some require booking. Walk over bridge for small stalls and mobile food stations. Hill is steep and could be difficult walking back from restaurants. No local shops, supermarket close to hotel. Ferry to beach €2.70 each return, 15 minutes, much preferred to hotel pool area. Summary - Hotel given 4* by Portuguese tourist board and Jet2, but really 3* rating more accurate. Hotel appears "tired " and in need of upgrading in many area's. Loved Tavira and will return but will choose another hotel
