A pleasant 3 night stay at the Occidental Faro. The hotel is well located in Faro Old Town, with loads of options for bars and restaurants nearby. Despite the tired exterior, the hotel is absolutely stunning inside. The rooftop bar area was the highlight of this hotel with beautiful views over the Marina for breakfast.
Breakfast had a good selection of hot and cold, we loved the freshly made Omelettes and the option of a Mimosa was a nice touch. Rooms a decent size, finished to a high standard, comfy beds and were well equipped with a hairdryer, toiletries, steamer and USB-C charging points either side of the bed. Only improvement here would be there are no drawers to put underwear.
We enjoyed the pool however the area is definitely in need of some more sunbeds. This wasn’t an issue for us as we got up early most mornings but others struggled to get beds every day.
As nice as the rooftop bar is, it is very overpriced. Due to this, we did not eat in the bar, and opted to go out for drinks, paying €2 for a beer in a bar next to the hotel.
All the staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. We would definitely return.
Nice stay. Hotel is in a great location with easy access to transport links and all areas of interest in the town. The hotel has all the facilities a guest would wish for during a short stay. Food is good and a varied selection of good quality hot and cold for breakfast. Rooms are fine but offer no views of the town. Mine was a suite at an elevated price but only afforded a view of an adjacent building wall. Adequately spaced room and bathroom was the highlight. Rooftop bar area is the overall highlight of the hotel with a good vibe and great views. Overall a nice hotel and one I would be comfortable to recommend to others
Dissapointing hotel, lovely place. My wife and i have just stayed at the Occidental for a weeks holiday and while the staff and location are very good there were just too many negatives for this to be advertised as 4 star. We stayed in room 320 and the aircon and wifi are very poor. The aircon has 3 fan settings, hot, warm & slightly warm. We had it set at 19° (lowest it would go) for a week and it never got below 23°. Free hi speed internet is advertised but this does not stretch to the rooms, i had a firestick and it could not even play a video on youtube. The toilet seat was battered and worn at the front and the the shower fluctuated up & down do had to be set quite cold to avoid being scalded when it went up. Not enough coat hangers for 2 people for 1 week but phoned front desk and issue was resolved quickly. No drawers for underwear but that might be a british thing🤷♂️ Cleaners arrive late afternoon so go easy on your loo rolls and brew kit😂 Breakfast buffet was ok, lots of fresh produce but cooked breakfast is awful, especially sausage & bacon. Only option for toast is butter, would be easy to provide jams & marmslades. Coffee is nice though. Rooftop pool area is badly set out, far too many tables for amount of guests and not enough sunbeds but it is a restricted area, options are sit on your patio or travel 20 mins to beach, not ideal. Snack menu is pretentious and overpriced. Felt like the hotel was just a base to sleep rather than an immersive experience and part of a hard earned holiday, shame. We normally holiday at Lake Garda but wanted to try Portugal and sadly based on this hotel and price we would not go back to Faro. I would rate this hotel as 3 star+
We have stayed in the Barcelo group of hotels many times and this was certainly not up to the usual standard. We had booked half board but due to the quality and limited choices of evening meal we ate out in restaurants for 4 of our 7 night stay at an additional expense. Very disappointed. .
First visit to Portugal. Hotel is in a great location, room was good size and very clean. Staff were very friendly. Would stay again.
